I am a new Christian, living in Austin, TX. I have been single for years and am feeling very lonely. I am getting older (even though I don’t feel and look like it), I am too shy and English is not my native language so I am hesitant to attend small groups for singles at churches.. Can anyone suggest me what/where I should try to find Christian friends (both males & females)? Thank you and Blessings.
I am currently attending The Austin Oaks Church - If you are looking to get involved in a small group, this might be a really good option. I have tried a number of churches in Austin, and this was the first one where I was able to get involved. I'm not a particularly outgoing person.
I also attend The Austin Stone Community Church In the evenings. This one seems to be a lot of younger people, the majority probably younger than me. (This might just be the evening service) They author their own music, and it can be more like a concert, which admittedly isn't for everyone. You can hear some of their music here: https://soundcloud.com/theaustinstone

I also attended The Well | Church in Austin, TX for a while. I quite liked the messages, and the music, but I didn't seem to be able to get involved in a smallgroup, and then I moved apartments, which is when I started attending the Austin Oaks.

If you have a facebook account(I'm not fond of facebook) there are groups on there you could join, and they will post activities and other things that are going on. One example: Austin Christian Community https://www.facebook.com/groups/1659478990933629/

Also, I tried out the Gateway Community church, and went there for a little while. I eventually left, when they started playing secular music on stage during the service. That didn't sit well with me. There were also a couple of things the pastor said while preaching that I didn't believe agreed with what the Bible had to say. This lead to me leaving, and seeking another church. *shrugs*

Thank you, ntw1103. Yeah, the Austin Oaks Church seems a good one but I live in North Austin so it's just a bit far.. but I might try it someday soon. :)

Thanks lords_counselor23! I enjoy meeting friends (new or old :), eating out, going to see movies, etc. I don't like to being alone ;-)
