Hello everyone
I am a young atheist male. I've been very radical and assertive pushing for liberal left wing views all through middle school, high school and college. But as i entered medical school and learned more about Human anatomy, physiology and psychiatry, etc and how sophisticated we are, it led me to think a lot about the possibilities which i formerly didn't even consider. I just realized that it was i not the religious people who was bigoted. Not willing to investigate any opposing views. Almost convinced that there is no G-d. Staunch believer of evolution and abiogenesis, a silly tree hugger,a feminist, a gay supporter and every imaginable liberal hippie stuff. I wish to learn about G-d and thought christians would be nice enough to give me a chance. I am stuck. My country is mostly athiest made of non practicing peoples who worship money and war. I've never been to a church and never met a christian. I have a New testament which was so kindly provided by gideons international but not easy to read. I am very bad at literature(like most science students i know)
Hope you accept me.

God... not ""G - d.."" glad to give you your the first little lesson :D

Glad to be given the honor of helping you in finding out more about Biblical Christianity.. You can message me in private message or simply ask one question at a time.. Don't be discouraged if you get different answers from different believers.. Thats just part of being on an internet forum.. Make sure you ask God... for his guidance above all the guidance you will receive from other human beings..

Saying / writing Gods name is only done in vain if one is not thinking about or referring to God.. Or using the world God for a cussing word.. The Word God is really stating what He is.. He is God.. :)

Do you still think so called muslim countries are really that? Most people i know, esp. My batchmates have no belief in All-h. Muslims who profess to be religious are actually using it as political tool. You do know that our part of world is very close to commie states.

Azerbaijan is mostly a nonpracticing materialistic muslim society. Which made me hate religion. Muslims are hypocrites. This may sound rude, but they do opposite of what they profess

I am open to being updated on my perceptions of different countries.. I know Azerbaijan spent many years as a Soviet republic in the USSR and as such would have been influenced by the atheist beliefs of communism. But i see other areas in other former Soviet republics that have quickly reverted back to islam and not just lax islam but devout / radical islam in the caucuses.. But anyway thanks for updating me on the situation in Azerbaijan.

But as i entered medical school and learned more about Human anatomy, physiology and psychiatry, etc and how sophisticated we are I went to Bodies...The Exhibition (warning to people before viewing link: it's not for the the faint of heart) last month. Fascinating. We are sophisticated!

a silly tree hugger I recycle. I consider it wasteful to throw plastic, tin/aluminum, paper, etc. when it can be reused.

a feminist I have a girlfriend. She's not inferior to me. She is wired differently, though. Can I still be a feminist?

gay supporter People who are not straight are still people. They ought to be treated like people. So long as they aren't asking or forcing me to do something I object to, I try to treat them like anyone else.

My country is mostly athiest made of non practicing peoples who worship money and war. Wow. :(

I've never been to a church and never met a christian. Lots of them here. :D

I have a New testament which was so kindly provided by gideons international but not easy to read Can you be more specific? What did you read in it or what do you find confusing/frustrating?

Welcome, Iamstuck. :)

Christianity is not religious head knowledge, but the reality of God's spirit dwelling within you and giving you new life. It is receiving the mind of Christ in place of our worldly, intellectual thinking.

Dude, I was once an atheist who cheered on Richard Hitchens and Laurence Krauss...
Take it from me, you want to learn more about the one we call God, read the new testiment...

If you wish only for debates or deep inteelectual thoughts I can suggest two people.
Debates: John Lennox
Intellectual Thoughts: C. S. Lewis

Hi Iamstuck,

Nice to meet you, I hope you find the one true God. :)

Are you ok with me asking are you still living in Azerbaijan and how serious are
you about getting to know God?

The reason I ask is because I do know of someone who has done some discreet work in
Azerbaijan. It is among the worst places in the world for Christian persecution.

Will there be problems for you by joining Christian Chat? I just wondered.
Im sure people on here will be more than willing to help you but it might be wise
to use a certain amount of discretion if you are still in Azerbaijan and to not give out
personal identifying information.

Some on here may not realise this so I have posted the following links more for the
benefit of others.

God bless.

You sound like a honest open individual.

My proposition to you is actually very simple.
Take the gospel of John, 4th book of the new testament.
Just read it from the start to the end. Try and understand what the writer is trying to
say, not in a critical way, but just what one man is trying to convey to his audience.

What you will find is Jesus is saying one simple thing. We are biased, we filter out things
we do not like, just because we do not like them, they upset us.

Your testimony of how you got to where you are is exactly that. You just assumed a
position, and dismissed alternatives, not because they are not sound, but because they
did not agree with your position.

And as a final point, remember to stay honest. This is what Jesus is all about, being honest
from the heart, which in itself is eye opening. How could a man say He is Gods son, and be
honest unless He actually is?

I am confused about the accounts of various authors not coinciding. Somewhere it says something then i read the next author which has sonething else to say about it. Reminds me of muslim clerics i faced when i was in saudi. Also, i feel the author john is far too important in the whole NT. Jesus says he will not die till Jesus's 2nd coming. So, is john still alive now after nearly 2000 years

Also. I don't understand why Bible revolves around Humans and especially Jews.Like the authors never mention other peoples other than reffering them as gentiles. God promises safety to israel. Israel seems to be centre of attention all the time. Jews are gods chosen people. Jesus calls a gentile dog. This stuff i don't understand. Gentiles are treated as second class all through the OT. The only book that was not jew centric is proverbs. Which has some wisdom everyone can use. I don't find it reasonable why creator of all people would regard jews as some special people. Please help me with this

Hi and welcome.

It speaks of gentiles because they rejected God and started worshipping other gods.
It speaks the way it does about Jews because they were God's elect People.

However, if you read it carefully, you will see that the jews rejected Christ, which caused Him to turn to the gentiles and offer them salvation as well :) All who believe are made children and heirs of God

and: Gal 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus

Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan is a b@$***. I have left the country since 2007. I live in a liberal hippie scandinavian country as of now. At least they wont put me in prison for reading a bible in a cafe.

Pardon me wwjd kilden, but asserting that jews are somehow gods elect is exactly what i find suspicious. Obviously the authors are jews are'nt they?
Muslims believe in a similar fashion that they are god's elect and somehow superior to the qafirs. It reflects man's ego and self centric views. If G-d created all in His image then why would he always speak to jews in Bible, muslims in koran and so on. Why not with different people?
