Hey guys
Almost a year ago I joined here and explained my situation. To those who I conversed with I owe a big debt of gratitude as it let me see myself from others perspective.
Its a strange one but a nutshell, im not a religious person, I was baptised and educated in catholic schools but always given free choice by my family, while I never made the decision to abandon God, I dont go to church or pray to him.
At the time I joined I was reading the Bible, and I have done 3 times since, now I just pick it up now and again.

I will try to explain where I am best I can and hope I dont offend anybody as putting this into words is hard.
I dont see a relationship between myself and the God of the Bible just yet. But I know I have a relationship with Jesus as where before I'd make a big decision myself there and then...I know take a step back, clear my thoughts and listen.

Ive worded that the best I can. Amd I hope you understand what I mean

Thanks for sharing and welcome back. Nothing you said was offensive :). You said you don't have a relationship with the God of the Bible but you have a relationship with Jesus. I'm just wondering what you mean by that. Do you believe that the God of the Bible is not Jesus?

The way I interpret it is they are two seperate beings. God the creator and Jesus, a living God.
The Bible is to me, as I have a big interest in Ancient Civilisations, the latest version of the story( for want of a better word)
I see the creator side as just a way for the people back to make sense of how we came to be.

Ever since I learned that the Bible version of Jesus had many similarities to the God of previous civilisations, at the time I was not in any way religious. I always thought it was probably the same "Soul" coming back to lead us back on the right path as we began to stray.
As I have began to find religion that view has actually strengthened, he looks over us and when needed he returns in a way the people of the time can relate to.

I.do find it hard to put into words how I see it at this point on my journey.

There is only ONE God. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all one and the same. Jesus isn't a separate God, and the HS isn't a separate God.

That is just how I interpret it.
When I started feeling a pull towards God/Jesus I said to myself that it could just be a phase because it started after my Grandad died in 2013, he was religious. And I put it down to needing to keep a connection with him. I bought a bible and have read it fully twice.
This is why I am here, because I am looking for guidance. And why I made a point of saying Im not trying to offend anyone as I know it could look like Im having a laugh
I just saw the Old Testament God and New Testament Jesus as two totally different beings.
I hope you dont mind, in explaining I will refer to the Old Testament as God and New Testament as Jesus.
I see God as looking after his people and those who worship him but would destroy anyone who didnt worship him.
I see Jesus as all loving no matter the persons belief as long as they are a good person. He also gives everyone a chance to redeem themselves

Hello Karl welcome back to CC! :)

If you read the first chapter of John you will see why we believe Jesus is God :D

May I suggest you read the whole gospel of John again? Have you seen the movie?

Best wishes to you in your seeking after Him!

Hi Karl, I hope no one was offended I certainly wasn't . Your understanding of God and Jesus really is very common. In fact most people who have not had a personal experience with Jesus see's him this way. You said you read the Bible twice yet you still didn't see that the God of the Old Testament is Jesus (Though there is many verses, passages and stories in the Old Testament that tells us this) is not uncommon either. Since you are looking for guidance I want to share three verses with you. Two on creation since that was something you mentioned and the one from the Old Testament. If you are truly seeking truth and clarity, ask Jesus to help you understand what the verses are saying:eek:. John 1:1-4 and John 1:14, Isaiah 6:1-10 and John 12:40-41 the explanation by the Apostle John of who the vision is in Isaiah 6:1-10.
