Hi..just discovered CC from a website I visited yesterday. I've started reading the bible and to be honest most of the verses I read I don't understand them.
I need people to fellowship with and am hoping anyone could help me out with questions I don't understand.
Thanks.

Welcome to Christian Chat, Maune. If you just start at the beginning of the Bible and read all the way through, you might find it easier to understand, unless that is what you already are doing. Don’t read too fast.

By all means, please share your understanding of the bible. I'm glad that you have started to read the Word of God and it would be a wise thing to make this a daily practice and try to apply what God has allowed you to understand in your day-to-day life. Glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

Perhaps God steered you to this site for a reason. It's a good thing to that you are starting to read the bible. Pray for God to give you understanding for certain passages you read. It says in the book of Isaiah "Line upon line, precept upon precept. A little here, a little there...". Understanding the Word of God will take time and patience and discipline so don't be discourage by any lack of understanding. In time, this will come if your desire is to truly know, love and serve God. Glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

i dont suggest taking other mens words as scripture

or SOUND doctrine before you read the Word and can tell for yourself

but it really does help your hunger for the Word and terms and concepts

ok

paul wash (just a man, a preacher very heart felt has a lot right and some wrong but good for your heart)

kerrigan skelly (another man, mainly a street preacher helps with conviction of sin... again many things right but some things wrong)

kent hovind(less of a preacher more of an apologist.. he debates professors and it helps you see how silly the world can be)

chuck missler (another preacher... more things i disagree with but has an interesting way of thinkin and talks about some topics that really get you thinking)

after listening to people like these
you shouldnt take what they say as fact

but the message they bring can soften you to new information

and make you crave the word

also

im not trying to brag in anyway
im just a sappling

but i have read the bible
and i read it still every day

i may be of use, if you ever have a question feel free to hit me up

The chat portion of this site would be better for discussions about your confusion about what you are reading. These forums are infested by people who like to preach instead of teach, and they delight in telling you what you are wrong about. They only excel at fostering discord amongst believers. CC is NOT a welcoming place to new Christians. Heck, it's NOT a welcoming place to anyone. A person would have to believe some really silly things to be on the "right" side of arguments at this place.

If you have questions, go to the chat rooms.

When I have a question that I would like to know the answer to I start by reading John and then the rest of the New Testament to the book of Revelation. (I do not read Revelation my first time through) It normally takes me about 2 weeks, give or take a few days, my first read. Then I will start with any of the other 3 gospels, Matthew, Mark or Luke, and read to Revelation, again not reading the book of Revelation. I again will do the same thing starting with one of the remaining 2 gospels and the then the fourth and last time through, starting with the one remaining gospel, will read Revelation to finish up. I have had lots of question and have read the New Testament hundreds of times and He has always lead me to the answers. I have always suggested this to people who are just beginning to read and study the scriptures.

May our Father in Heaven bless you on your journey.

“Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise”(Proverbs 15:31).

Pray for God’s guidance in finding the right person

“Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance” (Proverbs 1:5).

Develop an awareness of those around you

“The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray” (Proverbs 12:26).

A good counselor or mentor is like the cream rising to the top. They are marked for their wisdom and insight over matters that cause many people to fail in dealing with issues in a righteous manner. A wise man or woman stands out because of their calm demeanor in the midst of troubling times. It’s not that they are endowed with superior spirituality, but rather the tests of life and time have taught them to confidently put their trust in Christ’s sovereignty. “The king of Israel answered, “Tell him: ‘One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.’” (1 Kings 20:11).
The faithful followers of Jesus Christ will have battle scars on their spiritual armor. They know what it’s like to be in the darkest places spiritually and still move forward by the grace of God. against the world, the flesh, and the devil.

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Great responsibility accompanies those who are the mentors in your life. Just as Paul was a spiritual father to Timothy, so your counselor may be the paternal or maternal influence in your life. It’s necessary for their spiritual growth to be aware of your need in their lives. They have to be ready to hear from the Holy Spirit and share God’s word liberally with you. It’s a position of honor that deserves respect because of the greater accountability.

A good person to find in mentoring with you has:

Knowledge: (Proverbs 24:4) A good mentor is knowledgeable about the word of God and well acquainted with sound teaching. These men and women stick to the solid truths of God’s word and resist trends of “new” teachings.

Wisdom: (Proverbs 10:14) A good mentor applies the knowledge of God’s word in their everyday interactions with family, friends, and strangers. Their lives are marked with the seasoning of careful reasoning and understanding.

Experience: (1 Timothy 3:6) A good mentor must have life experiences that have proven his or her perseverance in the faith. Resist following after the advice of a new convert as they may need more time to mature in the faith.

Discernment: (Philippians 1:10) A good mentor discerns what is good through the Scriptures and prayer. The Holy Spirit gives insight and direction through those who’ve submitted their lives fully to Christ.

Truthfulness: (Ephesians 4:15) A good mentor will speak the hard truth to you in love. They want you to live righteously and avoid the pitfalls of ignorance.

Compassion: (Colossians 3:12) A good mentor is marked by their agape love and compassion for God’s people. Their speech and actions towards all people reflects the love of Christ.

Integrity: (2 Corinthians 1:12) A good mentor strives to live a life of integrity even when the world belittles their stance for what is right. They refuse to bow down to complicity and/or make excuses to justify themselves.

Reputation: (Proverbs 22:1) A good mentor secures their reputation by making everyday choices that reflect the grace and mercy given to them by Christ. They make great efforts to reveal the influence of Jesus on their lives.

Sometimes it may take a while to find a good counselor worthy of honor. Yet the Lord knows just who you need at the right time. He will grant you direction as you draw close to Him in prayer and meditation. As the Lord grows you up through wise counsel, you will realize the position of honor in leading others as well. But first I must ask: Have you given your life in believing Jesus died and arose again for your sins to be paid on that Cross? Have you asked God into your heart?

Hi Maune, welcome to CC!

Have you considered looking for a church in your area for one on one fellowship.

Growing and learning God's word and will for your life is a life-long journey. It's a marathon and not a sprint. I wanted it to be a sprint when I was first saved and learned pretty quickly that it takes time, prayer, study, growth etc.

But mostly I realized it's a relationship with God our Savior and Lord.

I wanted to ask and not assume, are you a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ? I tried reading the bible when I was an unbeliever and I couldn't understand a thing. But even then I believe God was drawing me towards Him so I could join His family.

Also, I would like to invite you to join God's family if you're not a believer yet. Do you know that Jesus, God's only begotten Son died on a cross so that we can have forgiveness for our sins, a relationship with Him and eternal life.

He was buried and rose again to newness of life and we will too. We will have eternal life in Him with no more sorrow, pain or suffering. Our sins separated us from God our Father and through Jesus sacrifice to atone for our sins, we become united to a right relationship with God.

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” Romans 10:8-11

John 3:1-17

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

In order to study the Bible properly, one has to meet two basic requirements. The first requirement is that the person must be right; he must pass through proper training. The second requirement is that he has to have the right methods.

During the past few centuries, in particular since the rise of Protestantism, many books have been published on the study of the Bible. And today, many of them are very good (mixed with some that are very bad), but almost all are short in one matter—they only pay attention to methods of studying the Bible; they do not pay enough attention to the person who is studying the Bible.

They give the impression that anyone who uses these methods will achieve good results. Many have tried these methods but have not found any profit to their study. Those who have written books on the study of the Scripture have studied the Scripture well, but those who try to imitate them by approaching the Bible with the same methods do not necessarily fare as well. This is because the imitators have forgotten who they are.

The study of the Bible is not only a matter of methods but a matter of the person. Some study the Bible well because they—the persons—have learned the proper lessons from God. When they find the right methods to assist in their study, they reap rich results. It is wrong to pass on methods without considering the kind of person one has to be. Even when some have the right methods, they can never study the Bible well because they are wrong in their very person.

This is a very important point. The study of the Bible is not merely a matter of right methods but a matter of right persons. A person must be right before he can adopt the right method to study the Bible. Methods are important because without good methods, one cannot study the Bible well.

But the person must also be properly calibrated before he can study the Bible well. Some people have a misguided concept that very few people can study the Bible. Others have a mistaken notion that anyone can study the Bible. Both are wrong.

It is wrong to think that very few people can study the Bible, and it is equally wrong to think that everyone can study the Bible. Only one kind of person can study the Bible, and we have to be that kind of person before we can study the Bible well. We have to see that the person is first; the methods second. If the person is wrong, nothing will work even if one has all the right methods.

If the person is right, the right methods can be put to good use. Some people pay much attention to good methods. Even though we also pay proper attention to good methods, we should never make methods our first priority. The methods do not come first; the person does. First, we have to be right in our person, and then we can speak about the best methods of Bible study. Remember this is a relationship with God thru Jesus Christ.

So what are you saying NoNameBobbyMcgee,I mean NoNameMcgee, that there is people that tell partial truth, but never can understand the full truth,so let us take matters in to our own hands.

And that is nice that you said do not take other people's word for it,but check it out for yourself, which is wise advice, and what the Bible says to do.

Which the Bible does say, hear the word with all readiness of mind, and then search the word if those things be true, and we need not that any person teach us,but the Spirit will teach us.

And those people can soften people to think upon the word, which is nice that at least they get people to think about the word, but if they give heed to the things that they do teach as false, might be a hindrance to them, for they might not sort it out,and be able to overcome the falseness they teach.

What I say is forget everybody else, for who can you trust in today's world, and what they say,but read the Bible by the Spirit, and who cares what they have to say,for it is a gamble where the odds may be against you,if you heed to what they say as truth.

For too many people drag the world in to the Bible, and their fleshy ways in to the Bible, for you to go by what they say,for read the Bible, let the Spirit teach you,and leave the rest behind.

And it is nice that you are humble,a young sappling, for that will get you farther in the graces of God,and the understanding of God's word, and closer to Jesus, than any other attitude,or emotion, that you can have, for God resists the proud, but gives grave unto the humble.

I am being sentimental, and going out of character than my usual hard core, disappointed at today's Christianity, type attitude, and am glad when the younger folks love the word of God,for it is a rare thing today, and more rare tomorrow, and more rare as time goes on,for that is what God said will happen, and for the youth to be able to see through all the falseness of the world, and not go along with them, with its worldliness, and selfishness,to see the truth of God,is a delight to my soul.

well ya
that is kinda what im saying
haha
i also dont want to go into what i do or dont agree with because i dont want to cast a stumbling block

im usually weary of posting teachings of men

but because God used them to lead me close to the ACTUAL word

it helps me see why the word is a Sword
and meat
and bread

and why people are "salt"

salt is nice... may add some flavor
hahaha
but never gonna sustain you like God can

The scriptures, and books of the bible was never meant for the unbeliever, but for those that were seeking God and know God, therefore increasing their knowledge of God's word. that is why their is two or more interpretations of the bible. one with the spirit and the other without. we trust the men of God from their experiences, and knowledge of God's word as they wrote them down on paper. examples and lessons for the believers.
