According to the Wikipedia entry regarding our two witnesses, the earliest surving manuscripts use plural where regarding the both of them except they seem to use only the singular for the mouth out of which the consuming fire destroys those that try to kill them.A single mouth, apparently shared by both prophets as well as a singular body in fact.
There were early doctrines to suggest that these witnesses may be of one biblical flesh,ie a man aand his wife however the notion of a female with the Godly mantle of Prophet did not survive long periods of church mysogeny through history.

The sex of the two witnesses wasn't stated in the bible but I'm pretty sure the Elijah is going to be one of them. I really don't think that it's going to a husband-wife team. Glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

I thought Elijah and Moses were ascended into the heavens and had already been given their transformed bodies?
How then will they be made to die and lie dead for three days if they are not mortal like us?I am rather doubtful that you would espouse a reincarnation of the glorified prophets so Im not sure how that would work?
The reason I gave up trying to understand much of revelations for so long is that there have been many interpretations and wild guesses over the years.
I guess when we see it we will know it.Isnt that how its supposed to work?

A wife doesn't count as a human ;-) and a married couple is one. This sounds like a very strange speculation. And what about coming from the west?

You would need to ask stuart777 about that i dont know-also if the welcome was for me or him or both of us but ill say thanks too anyways :)
As to the west, wasnt there a lot of H.W.Armstrong teachings a few decades ago trying to fit modern countries into ancient prophecy? That organization fell apart after the founders death but I think its been re-organized.Those books were always interesting at least.
I was kind of wondering if the antichrist doesnt make an appearance at burning man in the nevada desert
that might fit the bill for the city that is spiritually both Egypt and Sodom. No particular theological reasoning there just seems like its a pagan gathering that sacrifices a wicker man to their dark god pan and if a living man gets thrown in sometimes, all the better right:rolleyes:.Or maybe i just saw one too many bad movies as a kid haha

Seeing how Moses had died I don't see him coming back. Possibly the apostle John is the other one.

John 21:21-23
21So Peter seeing him said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?” 22Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!” 23Therefore this saying went out among the brethren that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?”

At the transfiguration in heaven it appears that while Moses and Elijah were present only Jesus was transformed. I believe that the two witnesses in Revelation are Elijah and John. Enoch is a possibility also as he didn't die either but Elijah is the only one mentioned in the bible that was prophesied as returning besides Jesus so it seems likely he is one of the two for sure.

Those who speculate have said:
Moses and Elijah
Enoch and Elijah
Or 2 unknowns living at that time in history
God said it's appointed once for men to die... and since Enoch and Elijah were translated from earth never having seen death, it would have to be these two.

If I remember right, after about 2 maybe 2 1/2 years of witnessing with nobody being able to whack them, they eventually get martyred.

It's gonna be something for the world to behold... 2 guys preaching the truth (won't be nuthin like osteen and other seeker sensitive wanna be preachers) and nobody being able to do anything to shut them up!

What do think the likelihood is that we are on the doorstep of "that time in history"?
Yeah if you cannot notice the times in which we are living... Hey, wanna buy a bridge???

the notion of a female with the Godly mantle of Prophet did not survive long periods of church mysogeny through history
Yeah, you'll have to blame God for "Misogyny" and inform the Lord that He has a hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls because it was HE that made Adam first, it was HE that decided to not have any women priests or prophets, it was HE that decided to not have any women Apostles, it was He that decided to not ordain women preachers.

I doubt the Lord will be impressed with that argument as it is man made not having come from the Lord...

I thought Elijah and Moses were ascended into the heavens and had already been given their transformed bodies?
Moses, yes because he died physically. Enoch and Elijah never died physically so they do not yet have a glorified body

If the two witnesses were men, in today's society they would come up against accusations of being gay. A heterosexual married couple would make a far better case for such a massive ministry. Part of their mission will be to prepare the church for what's coming and you need the female perspective on life just as much as the male. Also the way the Revelation 11 passage is worded, it is quite obvious that only a married heterosexual couple fit the bill of being a singular body - if you take the literal approach of the two witnesses being two humans. Not everybody does of course.

Well why would I blame God for what man has done? That would be like blaming your glasses for not working after painting them black or something.
Might as well blame God for all the sins of men(women too lol) in that case.
Id sooner the God given humility to seek forgiveness.
No I think we as the church as a whole have made some grave errors thinking we were giving some service to God and I do not at all blame God for our ignorance.I praise Him for all the light he has given to us,whether we close our eyes to it or not.
Just thought id clarify,i know these can be issues that can be contentious if not handled with grace.
Thank you for your points regarding Elias,Enoch and Moses

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12

With regard to the two witnesses coming from the West, this is speculation based on an assumption that the Antichrist will also come from the West. There's a fascinating book called "The Antichrist and a Cup of Tea" by Tim Cohen, which puts forward a compelling case for this position. People don't have to believe it if they don't want to - but it's always just as well to keep an open mind.

I'm sure that the Two Witnesses could care squat what people thought about them. They will have the power to do anything they want. Their ministry is warn the people what's about to take place and not to cuddle and nurture. They are not going to pretend to be Mr. Nice Guys.

toinena - Thanks for your welcome.

The most common position is Elijah and Moses or whoever. I would say that two old bearded prophets coming back from the dead is a very strange speculation.
