Hi, I'm searching for truth and have looked around different groups for one that seems to match my values system.
I have an interesting past which I choose not to share right now, but I have experienced things that makes me suspicious of organized religion, mostly because of the corrupting influence it seems to have.
I asked Jesus to come into my life when I was 12. I feel that in spite of hardships I have experienced, He has guided me.
Now, I am questioning my faith because of things I have seen.
Needing a little guidance, mostly because I am thinking of making some really big changes in my life that could really affect the way I raise my children.
Does anyone have advice for someone who feels deceived and is trying to sort out truth from error?
You're going to hear strange things. Like: "what does it mean that you have asked Jesus into your life"?
yes. Strange questions indeed.

You sound like a saved person who knows Jesus and who is having some problem with his faith.
Nothing new.
We all have a problem with our faith every now and then.

Jesus, I believe, help my unbelief.

Orgainized religion is good if you can find a good bible believing Church. Otherwise it's a horror. No Church today looks like the Church Jesus would have wanted.

I know a doctro who lost his faith beacuse he said he "saw too many things".
Well, what do we expect, we live here on this earth and it's not heaven.

Hang on tight to Jesus and don't let go. If you have doubts, tell Him and don't leave Him anyway.
Difficult to answer with no details, but anyway, I don't like to give advice. We've all had problems,
HANG ON TIGHT and don't let go.
Remember when Peter was walking on the water and the wind came and he felt the wind and got distracted.

Don't look at the wind,
Keep your eyes on the Lord.

I encourage you.
Blessings.

Hi, I'm searching for truth and have looked around different groups for one that seems to match my values system.
Something for you to ponder ... What if your value system is faulty ? What if you eventually find the belief system that matches your values system... If your values system are faulty would being locked into a faulty belief system see you in an even worse position?

I asked Jesus to come into my life when I was 12. I feel that in spite of hardships I have experienced, He has guided me.
I hope He has .. I hope He will.. And if He does i hope you will follow.. But what if standards of Jesus do not conform to your value standards? Are you willing to trust Jesus and go with his will rather then your own?

Now, I am questioning my faith because of things I have seen.
Needing a little guidance, mostly because I am thinking of making some really big changes in my life that could really affect the way I raise my children.
Does anyone have advice for someone who feels deceived and is trying to sort out truth from error?
Your not giving us anything specific to go on here.. We have to have some idea of where you are before we can give advice on where we think you need to go and how you can get there..

But for basic general advice as far as Christianity is concerned.. Read the Gospels.. Believe Jesus and trust in the Atonement He secured for the forgiveness of your sins and your access to eternal life with Him...

What if my values don't match Christ's. Something not only to ponder, but continually question. Since my issue involves possibly leaving my present church, it's very useful.

I'm sorry for being so cryptic, but I'm doing so to protect others while I figure things out. I realize it's hard to give advice with no details.

Also, I'm mixed up myself on whether or not I've followed Christ's values system in the past and not wanting to make the same mistake again.

Maybe it's a wisdom more than a doctrinal issue, I don't know, but I so appreciate the advice on how to turn back to God. I really have let stresses distract me from letting Him guide me and from trusting Him.

True authority comes when we die to our selfish nature; following in the sufferings of Christ we face "Judgment must begin at the house of God." We will experience much more of this in the coming years, you can wait and see and we need to, to see from God's perspective. God is patient and longsuffering with us and we need to be as well to Learn of Him. We are to be carried by the Holy Spirit, it's not a journey we could make alone. Jesus left us His will as our inheritance, that is His relationship in constant fellowship with the Father. We can hear from the Lord daily as we seek him. "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you..."

I totally know what you mean. It is amazing how a few dishonest people can hugely impact a great many people who are trying to do right and make a difference. I have found that focusing on the message and not necessarily on the messenger has really helped me spiritually grow. The gospel message is one of hope and joy and eternal life spent basking in God's glory through the saving grace of Jesus. It is a beautiful message.

I recently read an article where someone was having similar feelings to you. One paragraph I thought was interesting read..."Don't make the mistake of confusing that relationship with the teachings
of the church. We don't say this to discount the importance of sound Bible doctrine. Far from it. Instead, we're trying to emphasize the point that your love for God should be a living, breathing, dynamic thing. It's not just a matter of dutiful adherence to a set of ideas. We can meet the Lord and experience the life-changing power of His grace in a single instant. But the story doesn't end there. We're going to spend eternity getting to know Him better and filling in the gaps in our piecemeal understanding of His character and the universe He has made. In the meantime, the important thing to bear in mind is that Jesus is the Lover of your soul. Why make your standing with Him dependent upon your ability to explain the unexplainable?"

God is truth, and Jesus is our access to God. Nothing says you have to adhere to a set of rules or rituals established in an organized religious sect to achieve relationship or communion with God. We are all members of His body if we have accepted Jesus into our hearts. Personally, I have found great spiritual growth in attending fellowship and community type church services. Perhaps you can try one of these in your local area? I'm praying for peace in your heart and an ear to God's call to you through Jesus.

Welcome to Christian Chat. Rchng4god. The body of Christ should always put Christ at the head because he is the head of the church. But the problem is not really organization, it is what happens to that organization internally. We see these problems plagued the ancient Israelites as well the early church. This problem with bureaucracy even affects us nowadays, it is not really a new problem. So while it makes one suspicious, this is a common problem and is due to people being sinners and we should remember to put God on the pedestal and not fellow Christians or any man except the God-man Jesus Christ. As for sorting out the truth from error, having a Bible beside you and reading things in context from it, from the passage itself in context with other passages, cross-referencing, to knowing what the book or letter is about, as well as what the chapter is about help with this, it is usually called inductive Bible study and being like the Bereans in Acts really helps to discern truth from falsehood. Thanks. God bless. Enjoy your time here. :)

You will find that on here, you can read about, and learn things you may not find in any church. Like you I turned my back on organized religion. Though it may be for different reasons. When I did, I turned to the one thing, and one true leader. The Bible tells us that with the new covenant, came the Holy Spirit, and that if we turn to Him, and seek truth, He will lead us to what we need. Unlike most, I never push a theology, that has not been tested. I seem to stay at odds with every form of religion out there, yet that doesn't slow me down.
Many of the truths I have found, changed my life in BIG ways. Changed the lives of my kids and everyone around me. The key to finding truth, is not to turn to man. We are all human, and most follow the same teachings they grow up with. Most are wiling to fight, and some even use desertion to make their point. Sadly this doesn't and never has hit me as odd. You see, it just the way of the world anymore.
As you study, keep in mind that every passage of the Bible must be full agreement with every other passage of the Bible. If one looks at Paul, and finds that what you read doesn't line up with what you find in Deut. Then the odds are, you misunderstood what you read.
I wish the best in your search for truth, and am willing to help in anyway I can. However, I am not willing to enter into argument over any thing.

To see you are really wanting to strengthen your relationship with Christ is encouraging :). Make sure you don't miss the big picture; I'm by no means suggesting that you don't strive to value what he does( Matthew 14:21), instead, keep it simple. Look to Jesus (the word) and not how faulty you are- things will fall into place :). Just sharing somethingI've learned over the past 8+ years as a Christian. I hope you don't take my advice as anything more than advice. :)

Hi sister
Yes I have advice. glad to see a genuine truth seeker, god is faithful sis. Seek and you shall find. There is so much error out there it is way way way too easy to be deceived in these times. The devil is so subtil too.
I was led out of a few false movements/systems.
Would recommend the KJV BIble and prayer alone . The word tells us that the holy spirit will lead us into all truth John 16:13. Can verify firsthand. Depend on Him alone for thr truth.
However to help guide id recommend bryan denlinger. Remember to be like the bereans and take everything u hear and study to see if its true. Also study to shew thyself approved an honesgt worker who needeth not to be ashamed?? Scripture paraphrasig majorly haha
God bless
