what does it mean. turn from sin. thats impossible. turn from your ways and trust god is working in your life. how do your turn. if i were to repent of all my sin id have to kill myself because i cannot stop sinning. i tried my best and i think im worse off then before. the harder i try the worse i get. how do i save others by witnessing when my life is a mess. ive got major problems i cannot fix so i dont feel qualified to preach. i love others but apart from saying god loves you and you dont have a hope in hell to forgive your sin or change so god had to die on your behalf because your a sinful fup and you full of sins some people have minor sins but some like me are very exposed criminal does that make me a badder person. i think so. but im only doing it because its the only way i can manage to live without destroying myself. most people dont want to sin but sometimes its the lesser of two wrongs.

Someone in the bible is quoted as saying "I do what I do not want to do. But what I want to do, I do not do".
God also afflicted him with a "thorn in the flesh" to keep him humble, because his pride was so great.
This man was Paul. He wrote most of the New Testament that we read today.
Or the man that followed Jesus for years. Yet still continued to deny him. This same man doubted God in the middle of a miracle. Or the time he cut someones ear off, in front of Jesus himself. Yet Jesus told this man he was the rock he would build his church upon.
Read the bible more carefully. The men closest to Jesus were sinners and doubters. But God still used them to change the world. Look at King David. Or Moses refusing to obey God and return to Egypt. The bible is a story about sinners that God still used. So you fit right in. (=
Only difference between you and them? They didn't let imperfection override God's words and direction.
The bible does Not say "get your act together, stop sinning, then go into the world and preach the gospel". It says "come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest". And from there we are to go preach. No mention of perfection.

what is repent and believe
Repent and believe the gospel means to turn from your rebellion against God in your natural self born of Adam, and allow the Spirit of God to lead you to a place where you accept that you are a sinner in need of God's mercy and grace, and surrender to His will for your life. Jesus gave His life for yours on the cross at Golgotha, that you may be reconciled to God, and have a life more abundant through His resurrection to new life.

Jesus laid down His human life to pay the sin debt of the world, by shedding His righteous blood, due to His great and everlasting love for you, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.
Once you believed in your innermost self that this is the truth and the purpose for His incarnation, you are a child of God, walking after the Spirit. If there are things you need help with, cry out to God for that help, pray, and seek the guidance and support of those with similar experiences. If you have substance abuse problems, attend AA and/or NA meetings. If you do not go to church, find one in your area that you like, and get involved in a Bible study. All these things will help you as they have helped countless others before you.

what does it mean. turn from sin. thats impossible.
Hello and welcome to Christian Chat. The Greek word for "repent" is "metanoia" (noun) and "matanoeo" (verb) you see as defined in the Strongs #3340, 3341: to think differently or afterwards, reconsider. After thought, change of mind. Repentance basically means a "change of mind" and the context must determine what is involved in this change of mind. Where salvation is in view, repentance actually precedes saving faith in Christ and is not a totally separate act from faith. It is actually the same coin with two sides. Repentance is on one side (what you change your mind about) and faith in Christ is on the positive side, the new direction of this change of mind. *Repentance and faith are two sides of the same experience of receiving Christ (Acts 20:21).

Many people misunderstand the term "repentance" to mean "turning from sin" as if we completely stop sinning. This is not the Biblical definition of repentance. In the Bible, the word "repent" means to "change your mind." The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions. Acts 26:20 declares, "I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds." This is the fruit of repentance (Matthew 3:8), not the essence of repentance (change of mind). I have heard certain people say, "if you want to be saved, repent of your sins, turn from your sins." If turning from your sins means to stop sinning, then people can only be saved if they stop sinning. And it is unlikely that anyone has ever been saved, since we don't know anyone who has ever completely stopped sinning.

When we repent and believe the gospel, we change our mind about our sinful position (Romans 3:23) and need for Christ to save us (Romans 6:23) and the new direction of this change of mind is believe the gospel by trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 1:16).

OP,
It might help to know that you stated them backwards.

We cannot REPENT (Yes, it does mean: "change our minds") until AFTER we have first believed something.

Just place your faith and trust in Jesus to save you. Believe that he died for your sins and rose again by the power of God. It looks to me you already believe this. Put your trust in Jesus and his work on the cross to save you and not good works. If you have not done so just cry out to Jesus saying Lord Jesus save me. He will listen and respond.

You don't need to worry about turning from all your sins. After you place your trust in Jesus and ask him to save you, he will began the work in you. Remember Psalm 34:22: " The LORD redeems the soul of his servants, and none who trust in him shall be condemned." Trust in Jesus to save you. Say to Jesus I trust in you for salvation. Salvation isn't about turning from our sins. It is all about faith in Jesus knowing we cannot save ourselves. Don't worry if you are not trusting Jesus perfectly. The mindset of I need to do this to maintain salvation or similar mindsets may take a while to dissolve. Just rest in Jesus and stop striving to be good. Trust Jesus to do the work in you. Celebrate his love for you. Remember that God works in us to will and to do according to his good pleasure. See Philippians 2:13. It is not about us turning from our sins. It is about God increasingly making us more and more like Christ. Welcome here!

Well, repentance is a life time of turning away from habitual sin. But believing takes an act of God, only he can open your eye's so you can see.

I recall looking at this before, that repent means a change of mind. Could another way of referring to a change of mind also be change of attitude??

This change of mind results in a change of attitude and actions.

Dear seekingloveandtruth,
Thank you for asking hard questions like these. It is difficult to understand how God can love us when we understand how great our sinfulness is. I have been right there with you, often questioning how I am a Christian when I cannot seem to stop sinning or wondering when God is just going to stop forgiving me. The great news is that He never will. Jesus' death was sufficient on the cross and the only thing we attribute to that is our sin that made the cross necessary. Revelation 12:11 states that we will conquer by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and the word of our testimonies. Even though you feel like you cannot witness to others because your life is a mess, you actually can because you are a living, breathing example of the grace of Jesus to never leave you nor forsake you, even in our sin. Your sin is not any different than anyone else's. God reminds us in Romans 3:23 says ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Your sin is not any worse than other people's sin because whether you have committed a crime or lied to your parents, it is all sin and one sin is enough to separate you from the Holiness of God. God tells us that if we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us. There is no limit to that forgiveness. Now, we shouldn't use that forgiveness to sin freely but when we do fall, it is there to catch us when we do mess up. Here is a great article that sheds some light on this topic. Stop Submitting to Satan's Abuse | Boundless Blog I will be praying for you! Trust the Lord. He is faithful and loves you SO much.
