I guess I'll introduce myself. My name is Anthony, I'm 46 years old, married, and have a 21 year old daughter.
I was raised Baptist. But after years in the military I became an atheist. I just couldn't fathom a god that would allow so much hate and violence.
But as I have grown older, I guess you could say I'm an agnostic maybe even a Theist. I believe that something had to put us here. But I can't believe that he/she/it can be so vain and hateful as the bible makes it sound. I mean, I can go my whole life doubting the existence and be damned for all eternity. Yet, I can be a child rapist or murderer, repent my sins, be saved and all is good.
How can the bible say to not judge, lest thee be judged? But Priest do it everyday. So called Christians do it everyday.
I believe that organized religion was a way for man to get everyone to follow and do as they are told. No one and I mean no one would have believed in a God had they not been taught to do so.
I guess I'll stop there. lol. Thanks for the add

I think that the term organized religion has become an easy scapegoat for people that simply don't want to believe an existing set of beliefs. Such an overused term.
It's much easier to say truth is personal and relative than to think right and wrong doesn't bend to your whims and preferences. It's a self made religion. And an impossible one.

Here's my version if God.
Mankind can't save itself. God becomes man, puts religious people in their place, loves on people, heals people, both physically and emotionally and spiritually. His reward is to be tortured beyond human recognition, forced to carry his own instrument of death up a hill and struggle between asphyxiation and exhaustion while his family and friends look on. The reason? To save the very people that rejected him, sentenced him, mocked him, beat him.
You're right. God is hateful. Let me guess. You're going to completely ignore all of that, because it counters what you want to think and focus only on isolated events that suit how you want things to be. I've yet to see anyone like you do anything different. Because you can't acknowledge it and allow it into your views because if you did it would not make your statements so tidy and seemingly valid.

Have you ever had a rule you couldn't follow? Or wanted to do something but found yourself unable? Or just make a mistake?
Christians do the same thing. But for some reason people use that as an excuse to bash Christians. The hypocrisy runs thick.

95% of all non-believers that come here sound like parrots. All the same words. All the same arguments. Am the same unwillingness to listen. They only come here to be right and be disruptive until they get banned.
Quite honestly I find it a rather sad state of people that have so little in their lives that they have nothing better to do.
I'm sure I'll take crap for saying that, but I don't care. It's my viewpoint and I'm speaking for myself.
Enjoy your short stay.

Well Ugly, you proved my point. I came here and made an truthful introduction of myself. And the first thing you do is Judge Me.

As I stated I consider myself an Agnostic. Which to me, means: I believe in a higher power. But I just can't believe that the being that put us here can be as vain and hateful as the bible makes them sound.

But what do I know, I'm just a parrot.

God isn't vain or hateful. It is PEOPLE that are vain and hateful. You may want to go to the Bible forum for better answers to your questions. :)

At times it is difficult to understand why God allows to happen what seems to be terrible things but ultimately it is all for His glory and for our benefit. Right now we just get glimpses of small parts of a mosaic but one day will be in a position of understanding, mercy and compassion to see the big picture.

Religion, organized or otherwise is just man's attempt to please God and to justify their actions. That is not to say that we are to forsake the assembling together in worship and praise of the Lord.

You are right in saying that no one would believe in God if they were not taught to do so. You were taught to do so and as such have no excuse in simply dismissing God because you don't understand him. If you only understand one thing about God that one thing would be to know that God is love. This is written in the book of John. I'm sure you already know this.

I have said a prayer for you to cast your doubts and frustration with God aside and to allow Him to walk once again with you as your continue your spiritual journey.

I spent some time in the military too and there is a saying that there are no atheist in fox holes. You probably have heard this too. There is an element of truth in that saying.

Glad to have you join our community and I pray that this site is spiritually edifying for you and that you enjoy the fellowship. Welcome to CC.

I apologize if my words seem harsh. When I say hateful and vain. The bible states that God will not allow you to worship any other than Him. But there are other religions that do just that. So I just can't believe that they are all damned because their beliefs are different. I can't believe because someone is homosexual but has a stronger belief in God than I is damned. Yet a murderer or child rapist can repent and be accepted. I know I am Lost hence the username LostRider. I am also not here to try and change anyone's views. I am simply here to see others views and see where I am misunderstanding.

Oh and just for Ugly
Great advice from a very old book:

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." - Ephesians 4:29

Modern day translation: Stop talkin' so much smack about other people. Stop trashing and bashing. :)

Actually Ugly wasn't "Judging" you he was stating personal observations and his personal view on atheists coming here, that the majority haven't been exactly "wanting" to learn about God,more of wanting to be hurtful or know it alls to others, where as I for one "never" throw out the idea that an atheist or anyone for that matter cannot be civil and learn about God and the bible or even become a believer in God,so don't get too steamed, about Ugly's rather insinuative and witty post,he means well I took his posts as roughly mean too but he really trys to be constructive as opposed to hurtful seeming, you'll see that as you discuss on here.
