People probably won't message you or add you until they get to know you first..
It may be best to allow the regular contributing members a chance to get to know you better through a few posts as very few, if any will want to message a complete stranger. Integrating yourself in the community will allow those interested to make an informed decision whether or not you are someone that they want to message.
