Hi and welcome! I thank God that he is always faithful, even if we are not. It is never too late to talk to God. But all things are done in His timing. He does answer prayers, just not with our ( human) understanding. As for praying in secret....

Matt 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
