I have spent the last fifteen years volunteering in youth ministry. After youth tonight my own sixteen year old told me that she doesn't know if she wants to be a christian. I am devastated. Anyone else been here?

I think what you must do is continually pray for her. Don't force her to recognize God but pray that God reveals Himself to her and that she sees Him as someone who loves her. I will be praying with you for her. God bless

Hi Zeddie

Allow me to encourage you; Don't be (devastated). :)

Like yourself, I too have spent many years serving in ministry; youth, prayer, worship, mission etc. & I have learn that what I do outside and who I AM AT HOME are two different things all together. i have three daughters (age 17, 15 and 13). :D

And sometimes (but not all the time), serving in the ministry does raise our own expectation of our kids' faith in the Lord. :)

In fact, having your kid confessed his/her spiritual difficulties is also a good sign for you (as parent). To me, it's like an alarm clock and something needs to be attended to, rather urgently.

I see my role in raising my kids in the Lord AS A HUGE MINISTRY ITSELF (among other things) that takes a very big priority in my life. That's a start, as a suggestion, if you can consider.

That said, make time to spend quality time with them (if you haven't). Provide some daily bible reading guidelines for them. I print a daily reading scriptures schedule for them that they can follow (in addition to what they are reading on their own). Sometimes, I do the reading with them and explain with more stories and understanding. Together with my wife, we make special efforts to eat dinner together as a family (and mobile phones, books and any other distraction are kept out of this 30 min meal). We talk, share, fellowship and touch base with one another. Every Sunday, I designated time to play tennis with all of them (or any sports that can get them outdoor). Again, we talk, share and touchbase.

To ensure there's fun too (and not all spiritual), we eat dinner IN FRONT OF TV once in a while and watch our favorite TV dramas (NCIS, person of interest, blue bloods etc).

The activities are just platform to help me open doors to draw closer to them. What I say and demonstrate comes next.

GOD IS ABLE!
