Do you remember this story?

Mk 4:35-41 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Notice the two different responses that was going on in the midst of the storm. Jesus was sleeping on a pillow and the disciples were fearful and accused Jesus of not caring. Jesus awoke, rebuked the wind and said peace, be still to the sea and it was so. Here is Jesus with them on the boat and yet, they were fearful. Jesus addressed their fear and said, how is it that you have no faith? The storm presented a situation that looked hopeless. They were exceedingly fearful, had no faith and was afraid they would all perish. These men were disciples that followed Christ and were consumed in their emotions by fear because they were occupied with the storm. But Jesus was not occupied with the storm and He was resting quietly on the boat.

The storm was sent to test the disciple's faith and what had been imparted to them by Christ. Even though they failed, Jesus still calmed the storm. He let the storm rage on just long enough to reveal how the disciples were living their life. They were not living by faith but were living by sight. They enjoyed being with Jesus but were not applying what He had taught them and became fearful. The storms of life will give us the opportunity to trust the living Christ who is in the boat with us or reveal that we are walking by sight with no faith. Jesus is always looking for your faith. The storm is there so that Christ can see your faith. Trust Him in the storm and know that He is 'Beautiful for situation' / Ps 48:2.
