Keep in mind Denoms are man made concepts, not biblical. You don't need to pick one. I have no denomination and i'm content.

I as well have been to both baptist and catholic denominations. I now consider myself non-denomination cause i have seen the bad and good side of all denominations. The reason sound doctrine needs to be taught is so you are not deceived by false teaching, and those who would want to put heavy burdens or stumbling blocks on you. Read the scriptures for yourself and ask God to help you search out the truth. Also keep fellowship with others cause that will help you also in your quest for understanding.

Hi theremnant14 I'm pleased to meet you :) . It is sometimes difficult to find a good church with a faithful and loving Christian community to be apart of, while the divisions of denominations are sad, particularly who they often happen (though there were times it was necessary and more then once), God works through are mistakes, missteps and even our (speaking of Christians corporately) downright deliberate and malicious sins and uses this diversity in His church to His glory. So you will find in all good congregations, though it is important to remember you will never find a perfect one this side of the congregation (someone remarked once that Church is like Noah's Ark, it's stinks, but you'll drown outside :) ) rather all are full of damaged, hurt and broken people forgiven, being restored and renewed through Christ by the Spirit, it is in this respect like a hospital.

That said it is important that it is Christ-centred, I would also say that it holds to the orthodox (not necessarily Orthodox denomination though it could be :) ) creeds (in understanding) holds the Scriptures in high regard, inspired (I would include inerrant though that has meaning different understandings of what that means), and that means showing God's and His people (and therefore the world's) true narrative and story, of which the church needs to place itself and it's understanding of itself and it's relation to God and the world in. Besides this I would also say though, just as important, perhaps in some respects more so then the above, is that they reflect Christ's love and truth, and show an honest, loving community that Lord Jesus made us to be. As someone can have all the correct doctrines and be far from the Kingdom of God, and such a place if lead by such people is a place of abuse, hate and darkness far from the purposes of God (remember, the Accuser knew the Scriptures and how to quote them, and his servants can come as seemingly servants of light just like he can), so look to the fruits of the Church's leadership and it's community, how it treats people, and if it truly demonstrates the fruits of the Spirit, and by those fruits you will know if God is in that place.

Hope this helps, and I hope God guides you to a faithful and loving church community, and that you find such here as well, and that all here is characterised by love, joy and peace in Christ Jesus :) .

God bless and Welcome :D
