Let's start from the top and work towards the bottom. This is simple summery of what the bible teaches (as you grow as a Christian you will learn so much more, you won't be able to know all of it before you die, seriously).
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and all that are in them. God has no beginning and has no end, for He is the only uncreated, always existed, Being in the entire existence of everything. He is perfect and holy; He is righteous and just in all things.
God created man in His own image, according to His likeness. He was given the authority to rule over all the animals on the earth, and had the right to eat any green plant and tree from the Garden of Eden for food. God had given man one commandment, to not eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If he were to, God said, "for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." Man, at one time without a sin nature, disobeyed God by eating of the fruit which was forbidden, thus breaking the commandment of God. Man's death reigned throughout all of his descendants, and along with it his sinful nature.
After Adam, the first man, all men also sinned against God and broken His holy law (which is entirely moral and righteous). We have all disobeyed God, and are guilty before Him. Because of this our sin separates us from God, and keeps us dead in our sins. We aren't good enough to be righteous by any deed or act, for it is said that our righteousness are as filthy as dirty rags before Him.
As a holy and just God, He is not partial to any man according to their sins. Our punishment is full damnation and spiritual death, even to the stroke of breaking a single part of His holy law. We are not capable of removing the guilt of our sinfulness through our own efforts. Why? Because we are fallen from His glory and we are dead in our sins. The dead cannot make himself alive.
The only one who is able to take away such a guilt from us is God Himself. "And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."
God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; sent the Son into the world in the likeness of sinful men yet He was without sin. He lived a perfect life, fulfilling the requirements of the law perfectly. So that He may die as an offering to God for your sins on the cross. As a perfect and blameless sacrifice, He held your sins, guilt, and condemnation on His body, and placed His perfect righteousness on you. After three days in the grave, the Son resurrected and came back to life glorified with a new body, as He had told His disciples when he was previously alive. After being witnessed by His glorious resurrection, He ascended back to the Father to sit at His right hand, and will come back again to judge the living and the dead.
Jesus said, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no man can come to the Father but through Me. The only way to to be forgiven of all of your sins and guilt, and to be saved from condemnation you must put your faith in the Son and what He has done for you.
He promised us that if we believe in Him that we will have His in us. His Spirit changes us to be like Him, to live a righteous and holy life. Something we cannot do on our own naturally (because it is impossible).
If you truly believe and accept this good news message of Jesus Christ and what He has done on your behalf, you have been forgiven of your sins and have been declared righteous by His grace through faith.
To be a assured you can pray that prayer.
