There is not much written about Methuselah. He was the son of Enoch and the grandfather of Noah. His son was Lamech. The age of Methuselah when he died, 969 years old, is quite remarkable. There are only 8 others in the Bible with significantly long life spans and Methuselah lived longer than all of them: Adam, 930 years; Seth 912 years; Enosh, 905 years; Kenan 910 years; Mahalalel 895 years; Jared 962 years; Lamech 777 years; and Noah 950 years. Methuselah's name has a meaning, "his death shall bring." Many scholars ties this in with the flood, since Methuselah died the same year that it happened. His father, Enoch, was given a revelation by God that the flood would not occur until after Methuselah's death.

Genesis 7:6 "And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth."
Genesis 5:25 "And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech."
Genesis 5:28-29 "And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: And he called his name Noah."
****Methuselah died in the same year of the flood at the age of 969 years old and also had a son, Lamech at the age of 187. Lamech had Noah at the age of 182. The flood occurred when Noah was 600 years old: 187+182+600= 969

It is widely believed by church leaders that during the time of Methuselah's birth, God began revealing the reality of the coming flood to Enoch. There are much more to the lives of the people in the Bible, such as Methuselah, that the Bible may not tell us. The Bible doesn't tell us about how Methuselah died, but may give us an idea as to when he died in Genesis 7:1, 10. Seven days was a common mourning period in ancient times. Is it possible that there was a death of a loved one during this time, allowing the seven days custom, and could that loved one have been Methuselah? Every detail in God's word is significant, whether one chooses to believe Methuselah's age related to the flood to be true or not.
