Hi guys, in the past and even recent past, I’ve done things that I’m not sure are sin, or maybe I feel like something is a sin but need confirmation. I have questions regarding this stuff and other stuff as well, and idk, maybe you could answer em. I’m a sinner, pls be gentle :D
(Just in case this changes any of your answers, I’m currently <18 and my parents are non-Christians.)
I hope I become holier.

0) What should I do if my dad doesn’t come to a complete stop at a stop sign?
0.5) I have trouble thinking before I act or speak; do you guys have any advice regarding this?
1) Is complaining in your thoughts a sin? (Lemme know if I should be more specific)
2) 1 Corinthians 13:11 says “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways (1 Corinthians 13:11 ESV).
So, I’m a teen, and in the past, at least once, I’ve wielded an inanimate object such as an iPad, and while I don’t believe I was consciously pretending and imagining it was a gun per say, I made a recoil motion and probably subconsciously imagined something firing out the end. Basically I used it as a pretend gun, I suppose.
My question is, would this be a sin or is it alright?
3) Is being what today’s society would consider “nerdy,” “dorky,” or a “geek” a sin?
4) Is saying something like “my parents would kill me if I did that” a sin? (Because you’re using the word kill in that way)
5) Is taking a long, hot shower a sin?
6) what’s the difference between changing your mind about something and being hypocritical about something?
7) I understand that language barriers exist and that trying to use the phonetic system of a different language can be difficult, but is it a sin to find an accent funny?
8) I feel like this is one is a sin, but confirmation would probably solidify it: is is being mean to yourself a sin?
9) What should I do if a stranger on the Internet might have been neutral or even trying to have been nice, but since text lacks tone, they came off in a way that kinda hurt me
10) Is feeling (and accepting it) anxious for a second or two a sin?
11) I’m <18 and a lot of stuff I’ve accepted, signed up for, downloaded, etc., I’ve accepted their Terms and Conditions (or some equivalent or variant) without reading or skimming through. I doubt I should go back and check everything, but, what should I do?
12) Is being what today’s society would consider “weird” a sin? (I’m sure you’d need specific if you were to try to answer)
13) Is sitting alone at school lunch a sin? (It might help for me to provide more context and information regarding this)
14) Is not being in a state where you typically have fellowship a sin?
15a) I have a teacher who likes to funnily mess with his students. If he tries making someone flinch by making a sudden loud motion and noise, and I laugh, is that a sin?
15b) Would it be a sin to find it funny but not laugh?
16) If you’re in prayer, and you feel intrusive thoughts coming in interrupting your prayer, is it a sin to say “shush you” or “shhh” (basically, not talking to God, but I suppose you’re talking to your thoughts, while you’re in prayer)
17) If I’m watching videos that I perceive to be monotonous and I’m almost done with them and I have a thought such as “thank the good Lord himself,” and assuming I wasn’t trying to take His name in vain, is that a sin?
18) (If I may preface this, I’m not trying to necessarily find an excuse to not comb my hair, I just want confirmation haha) Is coming to school with messy hair a sin?
19) Is using the word “gay” as a substitute for “uncool,” “cringey,” or “weird” a sin?
20) Is using the phrase “I swear” in a jestful manner (see Ephesians 5:4) a sin? Hypothetically, let’s say I say to someone who I’m good friends with in a playful manner and joking tone, “Bro, I swear, you poke me one more time, and I’m finna smack those shins, boy” (not that I’m trying to condone serious violence).
21) I think I read somewhere about speaking up against injustice (I believe this was regarding maybe police brutality and BLM or something) and it was talking about posting stuff for like awareness and calling out injustice or something on like social media. But I think they called not speaking up for others (regarding that kind of stuff) a sin of omission. I’m >18, I live in the US, and I doubt my parents would want me to get involved in that kind of stuff. Is it a sin of omission in my case?
22) Is transferring drinking water to another container in a manner that causes a good bit of it to be spilled into the sink a sin?
23) Is it a sin to find a heated debate interesting?
24) If you’re about to look at some racist, back in the day, political cartoons (that give the vibe of, “that’d be very controversial today,” is it a sin to have a thought like “I can’t wait to look at these!” and look forward to it?
25) I feel like this one is a sin, but you can take God’s name in vain in your thoughts right? As in it doesn’t have to be verbal.
26a) Is it a sin to sing along in your head to lyrics that say “I swear to God” but also not be consciously aware that you might be taking God’s name in vain?
27b) What If you’re vibing to the beat, melody, or rhythm of the lyric?
27) If someone’s online personality and voice comes off as “gay,” (not like, just homosexual, but rather, I’m not sure if I’m gonna phrase this right, but, in the vernacular) is it a sin to think “he’s so gay! I love it”
28) Is it okay to talk about *ahem,* sexual topics on this forum?
29) Let’s say typing is an important part of your work and/or school life and requires a lot of your time. Let’s say you’re inefficient at typing and could be better; assuming you have the time, is it sin to not set aside time to become more efficient at typing, which would give you more time to do other things? (see Eph 5:16)
30) Is having thoughts like “I went through heck” or “I went through hell” a sin?
31) If you have a thought you don’t like come in, is telling yourself to “shhh” during prayer a sin? (rather than talking to your thoughts, this is I suppose, talking to yourself)
32) Is someone’s name (or username or nickname) necessary for intercession?
33) If I did a bad job with apologetics years ago to people on the Internet (let my emotions get in my way, and maybe said some stuff that, looking back, ain’t true about stuff like God maybe, the Bible, Jesus maybe) who I used to be somewhat of an acquaintance with but haven’t talked in a while, what should I do?
34) I’ve been really neglecting praying for distant family to get saved, is this a sin?

I appreciate your concern about doing things that may be considered sinful. There is so much to learn as we follow Christ, but one of the most important lessons is learning to walk as Jesus walked (1 John 2:4-6). This is accomplished through walking by the Spirit, thereby enabling you to deny the lusts of your flesh (Galatians 5:16).

It is a very concerning comment you make about yourself when you say, “I’m a sinner, pls be gentle.” I encourage you to check out this video titled “Kingdom Sinners?” in light of that description of yourself. Please do watch it and study the material in depth.
Perhaps you can practice your typing (a reference to Question 29) by transcribing what Brother Kel says in the video. This will help you further understand what is being communicated.

6) what’s the difference between changing your mind about something and being hypocritical about something?
Being hypocritical is holding to a double standard. In light of changing your mind, for example, that would be like you condemning others if/when they change theirs, while you allow yourself to change yours.

Hi EternalFire,
Thanks for replying. :D
I haven't watched the entire video yet, but to my understanding, it seems as though an interpretation you may have gotten from my words "I'm a sinner, pls be gentle," is that I live according to a sinful lifestyle and do not want people to give me hard commands. I think what I was trying to communicate was "'I have failed to meet God's perfect standard of both to love God and to love "thy neighbor," and I might suffer some serious hurt, so please don't be harsh in y'all's wording.'"
Again, thanks for replying.
God bless you!

Sorry EternalFire,
I doubt I will transcribe what Brother Kel says, but, I'd like to let you know that currently, I don't like sin.
That said, what do you think I should do about all these questions I have?

That's great that you don't like sin. In fact, the Bible tells us to abhor/hate what is evil (Romans 12:9).

The question on which you need to focus is: "How do I walk as Jesus walked?" When you walk as Jesus walked, in addition to not liking sin, you won't sin.

Regarding all my past actions, what do you think I should do with 1 John 1:9?

hmm
at the beginning of every day, like early in the morning, before you get out of bed, pray and spend time with God and tell Him you want to be holy and that everything you do is for Him. Ask him to be with you in every action and deed.
At the end of the day, before you go to bed, ask God to forgive you if you did anything wrong and to forgive you so you can have a good nights sleep.

As you go through each day you will find yourself walking more and more in Christ and leaving sinful ways behind. You may still stuff up from time to time but the more you walk with the Lord the more you will learn His ways.

Do you have a Bible? spend some time reading His words. I would suggest book of Proverbs as it tells us many things and gives us wisdom. Then the more you read and absorb them the more you learn wisdom and get closer to God and the less you do foolish things which lead to sin.
You can read a proverb a day.

thats a lot of questions twistii

I see lots of things bother you it could get overwhelming, but its good that every action you want to please God.

I'll try answering the first one and think about them one by one.
well first one.

0) not much you can do about your dad not coming to complete stop at stop sign except say DAD! STOP! I dont wanna die! if you a passenger....

Pray for protection each time you get in car with him and that he learns better driving skills...or that you learn to drive and he can be your passenger. Maybe hes getting old and would prefer it if you drove.

Well, I haven’t always done this myself, but when it comes to not coming to a complete stop, it’s not about safety, it’s more so about the law (see Romans 13:1) y’know

I have a Catholic Bible which has a diff canon than what I’m assuming at least the majority of the people here use haha. I spend a lot of my time behind a screen (and I could be better with breaks tbh, see the 20-20-20 rule) and so when it comes to eye strain I don’t really typically go for screen Bibles. For audio bibles, they’ve helped, but I feel like there are times when text is better (and maybe audio Bible can feel boring when it’s not very interesting?) and also I can at times lose focus and not feel like doing rewinding or going back.

I suspect the OP is trolling, but I'll play along...

0) What should I do if my dad doesn’t come to a complete stop at a stop sign?
Be thankful that your dad is driving you around. Don't bother him.

0.5) I have trouble thinking before I act or speak; do you guys have any advice regarding this?
Think more. Talk less.

1) Is complaining in your thoughts a sin? (Lemme know if I should be more specific)
Probably not.

Not a sin.

3) Is being what today’s society would consider “nerdy,” “dorky,” or a “geek” a sin?
Not a sin.

4) Is saying something like “my parents would kill me if I did that” a sin? (Because you’re using the word kill in that way)
Not a sin.

5) Is taking a long, hot shower a sin?
Potentially. Especially if you're doing other "activities" in there.

6) what’s the difference between changing your mind about something and being hypocritical about something?
Hypocrisy is saying something is wrong for other people to do, but when you do the same thing it's suddenly okay.

7) I understand that language barriers exist and that trying to use the phonetic system of a different language can be difficult, but is it a sin to find an accent funny?
Not a sin.

8) I feel like this is one is a sin, but confirmation would probably solidify it: is is being mean to yourself a sin?
Need more info.

9) What should I do if a stranger on the Internet might have been neutral or even trying to have been nice, but since text lacks tone, they came off in a way that kinda hurt me
Toughen up. Stop being a sissy.

10) Is feeling (and accepting it) anxious for a second or two a sin?
Probably not.

11) I’m <18 and a lot of stuff I’ve accepted, signed up for, downloaded, etc., I’ve accepted their Terms and Conditions (or some equivalent or variant) without reading or skimming through. I doubt I should go back and check everything, but, what should I do?
No one reads that stuff. They're going to track you, sell your information, and scam you regardless of whatever it says.

12) Is being what today’s society would consider “weird” a sin? (I’m sure you’d need specific if you were to try to answer)
Potentially. "weird" is probably going to wind up being in rebellion to God in some way.

13) Is sitting alone at school lunch a sin? (It might help for me to provide more context and information regarding this)
No. but it's not good.

14) Is not being in a state where you typically have fellowship a sin?
??

15a) I have a teacher who likes to funnily mess with his students. If he tries making someone flinch by making a sudden loud motion and noise, and I laugh, is that a sin?
Not a sin.

15b) Would it be a sin to find it funny but not laugh?
hmmm... I doubt it.

16) If you’re in prayer, and you feel intrusive thoughts coming in interrupting your prayer, is it a sin to say “shush you” or “shhh” (basically, not talking to God, but I suppose you’re talking to your thoughts, while you’re in prayer)
Not a sin. I suspect God has a pretty good idea what you're saying and and who you're talking to.

17) If I’m watching videos that I perceive to be monotonous and I’m almost done with them and I have a thought such as “thank the good Lord himself,” and assuming I wasn’t trying to take His name in vain, is that a sin?
Not a sin, but I think I'd be a little mindful.

18) (If I may preface this, I’m not trying to necessarily find an excuse to not comb my hair, I just want confirmation haha) Is coming to school with messy hair a sin?
Not a sin.

19) Is using the word “gay” as a substitute for “uncool,” “cringey,” or “weird” a sin?
Not a sin.

I would advise against this.

Stay out of politics. People will try to recruit you to their cause. They're trying to exploit you.

22) Is transferring drinking water to another container in a manner that causes a good bit of it to be spilled into the sink a sin?
If this is a sin, then a long hot shower is a super sin.

23) Is it a sin to find a heated debate interesting?
Not a sin.

24) If you’re about to look at some racist, back in the day, political cartoons (that give the vibe of, “that’d be very controversial today,” is it a sin to have a thought like “I can’t wait to look at these!” and look forward to it?
Not a sin.

25) I feel like this one is a sin, but you can take God’s name in vain in your thoughts right? As in it doesn’t have to be verbal.
Your thoughts can be sinful also.

26a) Is it a sin to sing along in your head to lyrics that say “I swear to God” but also not be consciously aware that you might be taking God’s name in vain?
Probably a sin. But you should understand that taking God's name in vain encompasses a lot more than “I swear to God”

27) If someone’s online personality and voice comes off as “gay,” (not like, just homosexual, but rather, I’m not sure if I’m gonna phrase this right, but, in the vernacular) is it a sin to think “he’s so gay! I love it”
If you like the gay because it's gay, then it's sin. A big, big sin. Sodomites are in open rebellion to God. If you love that, then you love rebellion to God. Stop worrying about all the other stuff and take care of this issue. Seriously.

28) Is it okay to talk about *ahem,* sexual topics on this forum?
I don't make the rules.

Stop worrying so much about stupid stuff. Deal with question 27. Focus on knowing your God a bit more.

30) Is having thoughts like “I went through heck” or “I went through hell” a sin?
Not a sin. But you're probably exaggerating whatever it was that you went through. That would be a sin.

31) If you have a thought you don’t like come in, is telling yourself to “shhh” during prayer a sin? (rather than talking to your thoughts, this is I suppose, talking to yourself)
Didn't you already ask this? Deal with #27.

32) Is someone’s name (or username or nickname) necessary for intercession?
No. Prayer is not like Death Note. You don't need a face or a name.

Understand that you get better at stuff as you get more experience.

34) I’ve been really neglecting praying for distant family to get saved, is this a sin?
I don't know. Instead of worrying about whether or not it's a sin, why not just pray for them?

Oh Im not catholic so use a different Bible from catholics.
You seem quite hung up about laws and dos and donts. Most christians that are not catholics do not think that way. we dont get into all quandries of how big a sin is either, as I heard that catholics make distinction between mortal sins and venial sins etc.

Basically anything we do without God is sinful but God gives us the grace to overcome sin theough the blood of Jesus Christ setting us free.

I use a print copy of the Holy Bible its an actual book not on a screen.

Can explain further but our focus is on God not the sins. Sin can be forgiven.

ha I thought the laws were put in place for our safety.
Its not about the law per se. You need to figure out why there are laws in the first place, the purpose of them.

If you go back to the beginning in Geneiss God did make a rule for adam and eve to follow, not because He just liked making rules and wanted to test to see if Adam and Eve were good rule followers. But cos if they ate from the wrong tree, they would DIE.

None of Gods commandments were commandments just for the sake of having commandments either.

Not a sin.

I would advise against this.

Understand that you get better at stuff as you get more experience.

34) I’ve been really neglecting praying for distant family to get saved, is this a sin?
I don't know. Instead of worrying about whether or not it's a sin, why not just pray for them?[/QUOTE]
Hi surfer14,
I haven’t read your entire reply yet, but it seems as though you tried a response to everything, so thank you very much nonetheless. I think a better way to state what I was trying to talk about in question 21 was like taking the action of putting into social media, stuff on awareness and calling out injustice, rather than like seeing that stuff on social media (which might‘ve been the interpretation you had from reading). Your point probably still stands though.

If he tries making someone flinch by making a sudden loud motion and noise, and I laugh, is that a sin?

hmmm... I doubt it.

Thank you very much once again for trying to respond to everything.
You seem to have stressed an importance on number 27. Would it be okay with you if I linked you the video to which I’m referring to? I’m just not sure you’re understanding what I’m referring to.

I think there are Christians that distinguish between parental forgiveness and judicial forgiveness. I think I just have like paranoia as to whether or not stuff I’ve done in the past is forgiven (parentally, I suppose) or not if I don’t confess to God.
