I just noticed this thread. Was a bit dissappointed in the content.

Here is a little something;

"""10 Intriguing Facts about Melchizedek from the Bible
1. Only three books of the Bible mention Melchizedek
The books Melchizedek is mentioned in are Genesis, Psalms, and Hebrews.

The Genesis account introduces Melchizedek near the beginning of Abraham’s story (more on this later). Melchizedek is introduced as a king during the time of Abraham.

The Old Testament is silent about him until the book of Psalms, which alludes to him when describing a royal priesthood. This is probably a good sign that the figure of Melchizedek had retained some religious significance to Abraham’s descendants.

Much later, in the book of Hebrews, Melchizedek is shown as a case study for Jesus’ priesthood."""

The priesthood subject is vast.
Melchasedick is a mystery and we dont know much.
On the other hand SPECULATION is UNLIMITED.

But speculation is nice to examine....because of interesting discussion.

We should break our addiction to topical Bibles where men, some of whom were uninspired, decided the appropriate headings.

If you read it again you will find an explanation for some of the mysteries regarding Melchizedek. Besides, what questions do you still have?

Here is point 2
2. The New Testament says more about Melchizedek than the Old Testament
Melchizedek is first mentioned in the Old Testament, and so you might expect the OT to have more to say about him than the NT. But that’s not how it shakes out.

Compared to the New Testament, the Old Testament doesn’t say a whole lot about Melchizedek. His role in the Bible takes place in a span of just a few verses in Genesis, but the author of Hebrews unpacks his significance in great detail.

Just to give some perspective, Melchizedek’s name is mentioned 10 times in the Bible: once in Genesis (Gn 14:8), once in Psalms (Ps 110:4), and the rest are in Hebrews.

Or to put it another way, the writers of Genesis and Psalm 110 give us four verses about Melchizedek. The author of Hebrews spends all of chapter 7 discussing his priesthood.

I find it interesting that melchezedec and Abraham met after the slaughter of the kings.

I cant think of any questions right now.

yes good stuff showing how much the ot had hidden and how much the New Testament has revealed in Christ

it shows us that melchezidek was. Or the priesthood over Moses law when the levites were established melchezideks order was taken into sion in heaven and the earthly kingdom was left to the order of Aaron who immediately built a calf so the people could worship it this defiled the covenant before God who would not have his son presiding over a defiled law so sinners were established as its priests themselves needing constant reminders of sin and atonement and only allowed in for a moment to sprinkle the blood upon the mercy seat

but Jesus lives in the inner room advocating justly for us because he needs no atonement and has no limit to his access into the holy of Holies it’s his home until he returns so he can forever advocate and intercede for us who believe

there aren’t a lot of references to his name specifically but there’s a ton about him in prophecy “ son of man who appears in heaven “ and serves at the right hand of God .

“Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself. So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name. Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭80:17

“Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭1:2-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

remember ten oriests role was to bring the atonement blood into the holy of Holies to atone for sin when Jesus did that on the cross shedding the blood it’s the priests role , and when he entered into heaven it’s the priest bringing the atonement in before Gods throne but he didn’t have to hide and run away because of his sin like the earthly priests , he lives in the holy of Holies and made real atonement by the power of his eternal
Life

Jesus life speaks of melchezideks role and proposes all throughout as do the prophets I looked and saw the son of man next to God that’s an image of The high priest in heaven

“Son of man “ references the lord becoming flesh and then being glorified in heaven after he became a man which is necessary to be men’s priest it has to be a man to intercede for men a perfect one so he became our high priest himself

“As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered……

notice how Abraham got the victory in melchezideks blessing

“And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭14:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Abraham had went as a savior out of love of those taken and God delivered him the victory . I believe this is the difference in levites law and ordinance “ you must do it or surely die “ and melchezideks order “ trust and believe and hear me and you will live forever “

self works versus real faith coming by hearing the word

Point #3;
(Amazing it is what pilgrim and i were discussing!)

3. Melchizedek lived during Abraham’s time
We first meet Melchizedek right after one of the less-famous stories of Abraham in the Bible.

After God called Abram from Ur of the Chaldeans (but before his name was changed to Abraham), the patriarch finds himself in an interesting situation: his wealthy nephew Lot has been kidnapped.

Chedorlaomer, the king who had been controlling the city-states of the region was off conquering the nearby world. While he’s on slay-cation, five of the vassal kings back home rebel—including the king of Lot’s town. As you can imagine, Chedorlaomer (we’ll call him “Ched”) isn’t too thrilled to come back home and see that the mice have been at play.

So Ched drives the five rebel kings into hiding, then takes the spoils from Lot’s city. Unfortunately for Lot, his family and herds are part of Ched’s spoils of war. So Ched makes Lot his prisoner and moves on.

But Abram’s not too happy about this. So he takes 318 trained warriors, beats Ched in battle, and takes Lot (and the spoils) back to Canaan with him. It’s at this time that Melchizedek meets Abram and blesses him.

In a sense, He is purposefully a mystery. Christ also being a mystery. So the parallel is kinda "built in"
Yes I’ve come to think of melchezidek as a mystery in the old whomis being revealed in the new only when Christ appears did he later become part of the revelation of Christ Jesus

see the thing is at least in my own thinking Jesus is everything for us He is our Lord and our God , he is our prophet and apostle who spoke Gods word, he is the high priest who presides over and intercedes for us , he is himself the sacrifice offered by himself both the slain sacrifice for the atonement , and the scapegoat who bears our sin far away from us on his own , he is also the Passover lamb who’s blood causes death to pass us over while it seeks for those in darkness , he really has fulfilled the patterns in the law and prophets and has himself become everything we need.

Even our closest friend is Jesus always with us holding us up , and leading us on , striking the wolves who rush at us from the shadows

melchezidek is owing us his priestly role in the heavenly tabernacle promised to David for his “ son”

I’ve found he is not just one figure but has become all of the necassary parts of our covenant from sacrifice to lord and lawgiver to priest to apostle to the one God and creator

the New Testament identifies Jesus and shows his all encompassing nature and Will so melchezideks mysterious nature and purpose is revealed as we begin to see Jesus it’s just another revelation of who he is

“And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭20:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭

I’ll stop there but the point is if we want to understand Jesus priestly role and service , then we have the pattern in the mosaic law to help us, and the revelation in the book of Hebrews then makes the mystery less and understanding much more

we can literally find every requirement of the priesthood in the New Testament fulfilled by Christ from the day of atonement to the reciting of the word tonthe judgement seat where he sits d presides and intercedes in that role of the priest

the secret is to look away from the earth and into the unseen things the New Testament tells us are there to age where melchezidek serves

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:8-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This post has been (wait for it) resurrected. :)

It is easy enough to trace the human lineage of Melchizedek to the first son of Noah, the inheritor of the office of the high priesthood that administrated the pre-creation covenant that forms the covenantal basis for the creation of mankind. It is also the birthright that Esau sold for a meal. Esau was a man of the flesh and disparaged his eternal legacy. Rightfully so, he was judged by God as a “profane” person who was not allowed to retake the estate he had traded for his immediate survival.

Melchizedek is a reference to a title or an office of eternal significance. (Melki = king and Zedek = righteousness). It is one of two crowns that he wore. The other is Sar-Shalom (Sar = prince and Shalom = peace). Hebrews 7 spells out this eternal reality. He is compared to Christ: “like the Son of God,” (note, not like the son of man). He is part of an eternal priesthood described by the titles: “King of Righteousness” and “Prince of Peace.” The emphasis is deliberately placed on his eternal position, decidedly avoiding any reference to his natural lineage.

God’s intention to designate man as His son and to establish him as the “exact representation” of God within the context of a “royal priesthood” is an eternal reality installed in time. Since the designation of son was intended to apply to human beings, the human beings themselves are identifiable as humans, however, because they are clothed in the eternal reality, their identities are viewed from an eternal perspective. So, God no longer views those in Christ from their human origins, nor does He identify them as sons of men but as sons of God. Whoever sees from God’s point of view will also identify not only themselves, but others as well from the spiritual reality into which they have been installed. This is why:

"..from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!"

This is the ministry of reconciliation. Not to save man so he can go to heaven, but to reconcile men back to God as His sons.

And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

I think a post talking about Melchizedek would be marvelous, but this post gets to no point, it is simply a ramble and of no use. Our Lord speaks clearly making clear statements, our Lord has nothing to do with rambling on and on. And of all things, you apologize for not going on even further with your mutterings.

Melchinzedek was not only a king of the people, but a priest of the Lord. Later priests were of the order of the Levi.

In Psalm 110 we are told: “’You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.’” as it speaks of Christ.
The topic has gone somewhat astray as you have discerned. Don't stop there. Find out why.
God knows not only the questions we ask, but also the ones we should have asked. Consider Jesus encounters with Nicodemus and the rich young ruler.
