Tuesday 4-25-23 3rd. Day Of The Weekly Cycle, Iyar 4 5783, 37th. Spring Day

Jesus’ declaration that “God is Spirit” is the conclusion of his continued attempts to lift her vision off the physical. Off her gender limitations. Off racial divisions. Off religious conflicts. He goes from the unseen within her, her own heart, and her failed attempts to have a secure and loving relationship, to the unseen reality of who God is.

Why did Jesus say that God is spirit?Jesus said this to a woman who thought that physical locale has a bearing on proper worship of God. The fact that God is spirit means that God the Father does not have a human body. God the Son came to earth in human form ( John 1:1 ), but God the Father did not.
What does it mean that God is spirit?
The teaching that “God is spirit” is found in John 4:24: “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” Jesus said this to a woman who thought that physical locale has a bearing on proper worship of God.

The fact that God is spirit means that God the Father does not have a human body. God the Son came to earth in human form (John 1:1), but God the Father did not. Jesus is unique as Emmanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). Numbers 23:19 emphasizes God’s truthfulness by contrasting Him with mortal men: “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.”

Some question why the Bible sometimes speaks of God as if He has a body. For example, Isaiah 59:1 mentions God’s “hand” and “ear.” Second Chronicles 16:9 speaks of God’s “eyes.” Matthew 4:4 puts words in God’s “mouth.” In Deuteronomy 33:27 God has “arms.” All of these verses are examples of anthropomorphism—a way of describing God with anatomical or emotional terms so that humans can better understand Him. The use of anthropomorphism, a form of figurative language, does not imply that God has an actual body.

To say that God is spirit is to say that God the Father is invisible. Colossians 1:15 calls God the “invisible God.” First Timothy 1:17 praises God, saying, “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.”

Even though God is spirit, He is also a living, personal being. As such, we can know Him personally. Joshua 3:10 speaks of God in this way, saying, “You will know that the living God is among you.” Psalm 84:2 declares, “My heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God” (ESV).

Philosophically, God must be a spirit in order to be infinite. Also, if God was limited to a physical body, He could not be omnipresent (in all places at once). God the Father is not limited to the dimensional restrictions of created things but can exist in all places at one time. God is the uncreated First Cause that is the power behind all other beings.

Interestingly, in John 4:24 Jesus makes the connection between God being spirit and worshiping Him in spirit and in truth. The idea is that, since God is spirit, people must worship Him accurately (in truth) and in spirit (with their soul or heart), as opposed to relying on traditions, rituals, and physical locales.

Is God spirit or truth?God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth" ( John 4:23–24 ). Jesus was a person with a physical body, and He was God on earth ( John 1:1 ).
God is spirit – What does that mean? - Christian Truth
Because God is spirit, He does not have a physical body. This means He is able to be omnipresent and is not limited by physical location. In John 4, Jesus tells the Samaritan woman at the well, "But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:23–24).

Jesus was a person with a physical body, and He was God on earth (John 1:1). Jesus is known as Immanuel, "God with us" (Matthew 1:23), but even Jesus, as the Son of God, was not able to be with every person in every place at once while on this earth. Jesus left earth so that we may have the Holy Spirit here with us: "Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you" (John 16:7). It is necessary that God be spirit so that we are able to communicate with Him and be with Him at all times.

Anthropomorphism is "the attribution of human characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object." The Bible frequently utilizes this approach, ascribing human-like physical qualities to God. It mentions his eyes (2 Chronicles 16:9), mouth (Matthew 4:4), arm and hand (Psalm 89:13), and ear (Isaiah 59:1). This frequent use of anthropomorphism does not imply that God has a physical body, but it enables us to better understand His character and actions by viewing them through a lens that makes sense to us.

As spirit, God is invisible to our natural human eyes (Colossians 1:15; 1 Timothy 1:17), but He is nevertheless a living being, active in our lives and on the earth (Joshua 3:10; Psalm 84:2). As spirit, God is infinite, unlimited by any dimensions of time or space. He Himself was not created, but He is the self-existent one and the power that created all other beings and the entire universe. He described Himself to Moses in this way: "God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And he said, 'Say this to the people of Israel: "I AM has sent me to you"'" (Exodus 3:14).

Because God is spirit, He is with us at all times and is aware of our ways. David wrote, "Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me" (Psalm 139:7–10). Because God is spirit, we can be aware of and thankful for His constant presence with us in every situation.

Love, Walter and Debbie

Did you know that the correct understanding of God's person is not 'a' spirit (as one of many) but actually just Spirit as in the only one who is such.

“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” Jesus said this to a woman who thought that physical locale has a bearing on proper worship of God. John 4:24

There is no article in the Greek text before the word spirit, and that emphasizes the quality or essence of the word.

Because God is spirit, He does not have a physical body. This means He is able to be omnipresent and is not limited by physical location.”

see that part ? Ponder this in the New Testament what actually happened

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body hast thou prepared me:”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

i hope that makes you think from the points you made as to what transpired in the gospel

Jesus the lord was in the beginning in heaven a spirit

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Then he was born in the flesh as a man having a flesh and blood body so that mankind can know him that word in heaven a spirit the spirit of God became flesh and blood and walked among us

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by him;…. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:1, 3, 10, 12-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

then here’s the thing he loves us so much hat he laid down his flesh and blood body his life in this world to propitiate on our behalf for the sake of our sins which condemned us he lived our life and never sinned and willingly laid down his own flesh and blood to save our souls !!

“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭20:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

see see for Jesus to shed his perfect blood to save us he had to become flesh and blood and live perfectly what I’m saying is God has a body and he laid it down for us then he determined to his original glory his eternal spiritual existence as God

“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Hi again Niki, Thinking of what you said,

2 Corinthians 5:14-19

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Only what you said, to me makes a whole lot of sense, He is exactly who He says He is by the scriptures.
Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

We can invent all we want on God's appearance, we do not have the mental ability to grasp his perfection or even his appearance weather it is physical etheral or any other state. Being in the presence of the Lord must be totally overwhelming I do not think on our physical state we will ever be able to appreciate his perfection and infinite love, HOLINESS. and GLORY!
Exo 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
Exo 33:21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
Exo 33:22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
Exo 33:23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

There are many things unknown to us at this time but one day, as it is written in the book of revelations:
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Blessings.

Amen

because of this in the ot

“The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, There is none that doeth good.

The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, And seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: There is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭14:1-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Man had to have an intercessor someone to mediate a relationship between God and mankind. This intercessor has to be a man and has to be worthy of God law presence

Because there was no man to intercede for man with god no man who was worthy because all had become sinful to some degree even a little ruins the relationship with holiness this requires a perfect man to mediate a relationship between God and man God saw there was no judgement in mankind and no man to intercede and save us so his solution was to become that man we needed to be saved and reconciled

“Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment. And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.

So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.

As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭59:15-17, 19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There was no man so he began to foretell the birth of the messiah

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

(note that his name would encompass all those titles )

and so you have the gospel which is God almighty fulfilling what he said he was going to do to save man the gospel begins to reveal who Jesus is by fulfilling all those ot prohecies of the messiah

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1:18, 21-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

so you have this dynamic of God in heaven an eternal spirit being born in the flesh and blood on earth to reveal himself to man because there was no other way to save us .

this issue of man not having an intercessor

“And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him;”

has been solved now we do have an intercessor there is a man who was worthy to intercede and mediate a relationship between each of us and God

“Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:34‬ ‭KJV‬‬

thats new since Jesus was born lived and died and rose and ascended to heaven we didn’t have an intercessor now we do we now have a mediator a perfect man to represent us before God and advocate for our salvation

“For there is one God,

and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;( God in the flesh )

who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:5-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

an advocate for when we mess up who has offered acceptable propitiation and infact is our propitiation for sin

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We never had an advocate but we had an accuser

“Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:45‬ ‭KJV‬‬

a witness against all we did wrong

Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭31:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Now we have an advocate for forgiving all we’ve done wrong instead of a witness and accuser against all we did wrong. Like having a defense attorney v a prosecutor

He lives forever to intercede for us who make some mistakes along the way but because of Jesus can still be judged worthy and innocent

“By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7:22, 25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We never had that before because no one was ever worthy to be that before Jesus

there was no man in all creation before he became a man and our intercessor we never had before he became a man and lived perfectly

“And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5:3-5‬ ‭

God became one of us in order to save us and reconcile a relationship man had in the beginning with God as his children he became the man that didn’t exist the perfect intercessor and high priest in order to bring to pass his plan from the beginning for mankind’s eternal life with him in a perfect world without death

and proved worthy as a man to inherit immortality as a man and give it to those he chooses to give it to

It doesn't say God is a Spirit... John 4:24 for instance just directly says God is Spirit...

This is very important if we go to Ephesians 2:11-22 because it is by this ONE Spirit that we come together as a new people...

This Spirit comes by Jesus' baptism, not the water baptism of John, and reveals John 17:20-26, 1 John 1:5, and 1 John 4:7-21 as literal qualities of God not metaphors or whatever else...

We don't seem to comprehend things like 1 Corinthians 4:1-13 and thus end up rejecting the mystical dimension, but only through this is truth actually comprehended...

Through all of this you know the Spirit directly, and should not stop seeking until it happens within you too...

There are too many Christians who seem to suggest everything is finished just because you've accepted Christ but there is much more than this in store for us if we want it, suggested by 2 Peter 1:4 and Luke 20:34-38 etc...

By our own mental constructs and ignorance we deny the truth Christ died to give us.

So you have experienced the actual Spirit?

It is neither in your energy or expressed in your attitude, but by being familiar with such concepts you think you understand them.

It's a way of life. THE Way in fact.

So, you did notice that your concern had already been addressed then?

You are in no place to know what I do or not understand. Honestly, that is not the best way to address people you do not know.

Your description is very biblical, but it leaves one thing out. Jesus, with is physical body, is also spirit along with the Father and the Holy Spirit as the one God.
