I'm sorry to ask this, but why do some people actually feel the need to speak in tongues at all? One again: please excuse my ignorance.
OK. I excuse your ignorance :)

Tongues are one of the spiritual gifts Paul teaches on. Perhaps the question should read 'Why did God see fit to create tongues by His Spirit in the first place and part b) Why does the devil hate this gift with a ferocity that denies it is no longer valid

You can find all the instructions in Pauls letters to the Corinthians (y)

I will not believe those who believe tongues are not for today are in any way devil related .

1. to be Edified. God understands the areas in your Spiritual Walk that are not as strong as others. He also knows your strengths can be better. Being Spiritually built through the Edification of God is as good as it can ever get.

Now, how do you get to the point in your life where you understand what Edification does?

Trial and Error. But it is the knowing how to Charge yourself in God, or be Edified by God that is the key.

in my life, I was always concerned about what is the wrong way and correct way to be prepared for when God chooses to Speak through you. But this only mattered while in Church. That left a whole other format to Speaking in Tongues, like, what does it mean if it happens in your Private Prayer? And by discovery, it is my Private Prayer where I do find myself being Edified to the maximum potential when Speaking in Tongues happens.

But I will tell you something.
And for me, this is the convincer.

I have unfortunately met real evil spirits before. I saw one when I was giving a homeless person food and told them Jesus Loves You and I am Praying for them and their circumstance. And this person, on a hot 105 degree day, mountain desert, wearing a long black motorcycle style leather over coat almost like a Cloak and heavy style thick dark shades and could not directly look at me but by the side of his eyes but watched me as I dealt with the homeless person.

That was not the convincer but a quick example of things I have seen when i am Witnessing for God. It's not just you there, that is for certain.

2. But even when confronting Evil, and Speaking in Tongues as a Form of Spiritual Warfare Prayer, I have [[NEVER HEARD]] from the Entities, Speaking in Tongues is fake so run away you got no power of God in you.

After I have Spoken in Tongues and then Commanded in the Name of Yeshua, the thing disappeared.

i am just saying, the Devil is a Roaring Lion KILLING, and if Speaking in Tongues had Ceased, he would destroy me in those moments because I have spoken in Tongues as a Warrior Prayer. If Praying in tongues, or Speaking in Tongues was FAKE, I'd be dead already. Because I would have given the enemy ample times to Attack me.

But i am not Dead, I just typed and sent this to you!

Several reasons: 1) They think it has some kind of miraculous power. Supposedly, Satan and his demons can't understand it; so they think if they pray or speak in "tongues" it goes straight to God without any interference from Satan; 2) They see "tongues" as evidence they've been baptized in the Holy Spirit. They teach that this additional baptism, on top of the ordinary filling every believer receives, gives them additional gifts and powers; 3) Other people in their group tell them they should and they don't want to disappoint them. There are probably more but those are the main three that I know of.

All these motives seem pretty selfish to me. None of them reflects the true, Biblical instruction for the use of tongues, which is to build up others.

"Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?" 1 Corinthians 14:23

I agree with these observations. In my experience, the push for people to "speak in tongues" amongst such "tongues" talkers was greater than the exhortation to believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, or for Christians to live Holy and Godly lives. Quite self-centered (and cult-like) in my humble opinion. Also, they never tested that the tongues were legitimate (e.g. with 2 interpreters, providing interpretation without either interpreter hearing the other). I started babbling one time (deliberately), to see if they could tell the difference. They couldn't. I even told them I was babbling afterward, and that I could always do that, and that it wasn't speaking in tongues. But they wouldn't listen.

Tongues in the Bible relates to different human languages, not gibberish. When the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in the upper room, He gave them the ability to talk in different human languages so that they could spread the Gospel to other peoples and nations.

How?
Supposedly, Satan and his demons can't understand it; so they think if they pray or speak in "tongues" it goes straight to God without any interference from Satan;
Satan is the king of the world and knows every language, even the one spoken in Heaven.
2) They see "tongues" as evidence they've been baptized in the Holy Spirit.
WHO Does?
They teach that this additional baptism, on top of the ordinary filling every believer receives, gives them additional gifts and powers;
Put the PIPE down and walk away...this has to be a misunderstanding here by YOU!!

Peer Pressure?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha is that stuff even legal you're smoking?

I tell what these Motives seem to me. Like they're Made Up!!

If i have NEVER seen anything in this list before why would i think you have, and are not just making this crap up?

You do realize Paul said he only Spoke in Tongues a little in Church...but BRAGGED he Spoke in Tongues more than anyone else. That's Private Prayer. Private Prayer is 99% of the Praying we Ever do! So it's Private Prayer that the Churches I know of encourage.

Well that's nice I guess, but since I never said they were, why are you attaching that comment to my post?

I said the devil hates that gift and he does. I don't even mention people.

Please don't add to what I stated and change the meaning of what was said. thanks

And for that matter, he hates all the gifts.

Well that is not what we find in the Bible actually. Please brush up on Paul's letters to the Corinthians and the instructions therein.

Don't just parrot what others say or perhaps you were taught in church. There are over 6000 known languages in this current age and if you were to listen to many, they would sound like gibberish.

Your understanding of the New Testament is lacking. One Corinthians is an excellent letter because we can see exactly how, a first century church was formed and how it functioned. No other letter gives us a window to see, what a first century church was like.

The church is built using the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit, not an interpretation of the scripture.

We are a spiritual people that inhabit a spiritual church.

1 Corinthians 2:4
And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.

1 Corinthians 2:5
So that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of mankind, but on the power of God.

1 Corinthians 4:19
But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the words of those who are arrogant, but their power.

Ephesians 1:19
And what is the boundless greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might.
Of course believers walk by the power of God. The gifts ceasing doesn't negate any of God's power... In fact it gives God the credit for any miracles.. because God doesn't need to use the sign and ministry gifts thru us any longer.

He has put those tools down and now we can live by faith in Christ.. by His power with His scripture as our road code.

Plus.. an interpretation of scripture is what allows us to understand God. Without it, we would be forever subjective and undiscerning.

Scripture interprets itself..and is the guide for how we are to walk.

I don't think you are actually saying not to interpret scripture. And do it rightly.. but the power of God does not contradict scripture.

Maybe not around you Bob but i sure have seen/heard it.
I've heard some religious idiots preach garbage myself, but the fact remains that neither the Assemblies of God, nor any other MAJOR Pentecostal or Charismatic group HAS EVER tied the "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" with Being SAVED. I often wondered what drove Gene Scott off the rails, and haven't bothered with his daughter to see what she teaches these days.

The same reason the "Some People" feel the need to minister healing, or provide counsel, or to speak the words God gives them. It's all part of the "Born again Package" that comes from the Holy Spirit.

Why would YOU want to have anything to do with what God provides for your ministry???

If you don't believe the Holy Spirit gave the disciples the ability to talk in different languages in order to spread the Gospel, then what do you think the ability to talk in tongues means? God would not give them the power to speak in gibberish. I am not parroting anybody or believing what churches say. I am being taught from the Bible by power of the Holy Spirit.

Right. "Babbling" would fit. No one was babbling in the NT. Indeed the words glossais and dialektos mean languages -- actual human languages as listed in Acts 2. Had the KJV translators consistently used "languages" as the correct translation a lot of confusion could have been avoided.

Also Paul asked the rhetorical question "Do all speak in "tongues?" [languages spoken supernaturally]. Of course, the answer is "No. All do not speak in tongues". So to insist that all born again believers should be speaking in tongues is total nonsense.
