My mom died when I was 16, she left me the house and everything she owned since I was her only child. Im 29 years old now and I just got the house in my name and wanting the Ins moved over. Well I had the same insurance that I have had come out because they had to do another inspection and it didn't pass. I have that old siding that kills you pretty much, I cant pronounce more less spell it (aspestos?) and I had some friends recommend if I could try and file a claim over damage and health hazard, if not, I have no idea what Im going to do. I don't want to invest an additional $30,000 + in my house, because its turning into a bad neighborhood and I would like to move in the next 5 or so years and that would be me pretty much adding another mortgage on my house and it only has $18,000 left till paid off. My prayer request is hopefully, fingers and legs crossed, that the insurance will somehow pay for me new siding and God will just open a huge door for me and bless me with it. As of now, my insurance is up on the 19th and I have had 3 insurance companies come out and it not pass. I don't know what to do, I don't have the money, but I need insurance.

I would most greatly appreciate it!!!

Thank you,
Rachel

PS I did file a claim today....I pray that they will do it!

Sure will pray, Rachel. What a fix to be in. Maybe there's a Legal Aid type org near you or something like it.

Will pray with you and others for an answer to this dilemma. God help you.

Rachel, I regret to tell you that I do not understand the above at all. It sounds to me like you need good legal advice from an attorney who specializes in real estate or insurance. I really don't think that asbestos shingle siding is hazardous, except when you work with it, installing it or removing it. But I did pray for you. May the Lord guide & bless you in every way and in this house situation.

Hi Rachel,

What Atwood said yesterday, "I really don't think that asbestos shingle siding is hazardous, except when you work with it, installing it or removing it" is correct. As long as the shingles are not disturbed in a massive way, any minimal exposure you have to them is not going to be enough to harm you, like one cracking from time to time. Also, the area around it is well ventilated. I know this from training I received over the years being in engineering.

You also mentioned the aging of your home and, I believe, the negative condition of the neighborhood. The Lord may be using these things to guide you to another place He has prepared for you. I have asked that He make it known to you as to what you should do concerning this house, the insurance, and His will for your future residence, whether it be to remain where you are or to relocate.

The house is not worth getting the siding replaced, due to it's condition and value within the neighborhood---as you mentioned in another post---in my opinion.

I understand your situation---needing to renew your homeowners insurance, which you must now have since changing the owner from your mother to yourself and the fact that you still owe the lender $18,000, but are unable to get insured due to the current asbestos siding, which will cost an arm and a leg to get replaced. I wish I knew how to advise you as to who you need to talk to. Hopefully some other CC member can. You definitely need that advice.

The good news is, as God's child, He's got you. It is his responsibility to take care of you and he will. You can trust Him in this, and all things. Talk to him about it, and also tell him your hearts desires. He will answer you in his way, guaranteed! I know. He has given me all that I've asked for.

Your brother,
joseph

my guess is that though the asbestos shingles are not dangerous,
they leave insurance companies open to (class action?) lawsuits.
between that and the fact companies want to insure newer houses
as a whole (fewer claims)...yeah.

praying for you Rachel. God is building one amazing testimony to Himself in you (and for you). ♥

the insurance guy called me yesterday and it didn't go through. So now I called a siding man to come out to SEE how much or maybe what my options are. I also talked to an old boss yesterday and she told me about an ins person that I might can talk too. So we shall see, at this point I still have some options open!! Thank you for all the prayers. :)
