Since I smoke, does that mean that God will not hear me when I pray? I have tried so hard to quit.

It is what comes out that defiles us, but smoking does harm our body. I believe God hears your prayers. Ask him to help you
to quit. I did and every time i try to smoke it makes me sick, just all of it. Praying for you in Jesus name

If God didn't hear our prayers due to sin, then he would never hear a single prayer because we are all sinners.

I smoked cigarettes from the time I was 11 years old to 19 year old, so I feel your pain for sure. The key is just to never surrender and to realize that God knows our struggles and he wants to fight them with us. It is Satan who wants us to feel distance or fearful that God does not hear us or love us: because he knows when we seek Him with our whole heart that there is no chain, addiction, or whatever that cannot be broken.

Draw close to God and pray and talk to Him through every step you take while quitting. Keep your mind centered on him and your loved ones. Don't allow difficulties in life to push you back into smoking( a common problem when quitting ). Above all, pray and pray and pray for strength until He gives it to you. The first month is the most difficult and it will get easier and easier as time goes by, that is a fact.

I'm not going to lie. I enjoy smoking. But I fear that God is turning a deaf ear to my prayers because of this sin. And come what may, He is going to allow bad things to happen to me until I turn from my sin of smoking.

That could be why I'm having so much financial trouble and problems with my van. It seems no matter how hard I pray, nothing changes.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Pray to God to quit smoking and to get things cleared up relationally, tell Him that you feel like he does not hear and what not, and remember that he hears you and pray to get closer to Him and that whatever is blocking Him from is to be removed. It's not necessarily sin that stops you from hearing God, it can be a variety of things, you may be being tested and God wants to see what you will do, if you will seek Him or not, or it might be that He wants you to change things in your life, yes smoking, but also maybe surrender and progressive sanctification. In your struggles you may learn the necessary skills and lessons that God might intend for you. I will pray that whatever is going on that you might feel His love and have assurance that he is there.

Pet sins are those we want to cling to the ones we will rationalize that maybe it's not that bad....I have a few pet sins myself smoking is not one of them, but the one I love is totally addicted to smoking and fighting to quit the habit that brings him comfort and contentment. At the same time this habit is slowly killing him.

He knows I hate cigarettes with a passion as I have seen the death and pain they have caused. My mother was told if she didn't stop smoking that she would not live to raise her daughter. She did not listen and at 8 years old I had the privilege of finding my mother dead on the bedroom floor and suffered anxiety quite some time. As an adult I realize I resent her for not listening to the doctor and trying to stop smoking. I hope she enjoyed those cigarettes because I certainly hate them. Now as that adult I am praying to have forgiveness toward my mother for choosing to continue to smoke as I should not resent her for having smoked. We each have choices to make in life and I have made some wrong choices myself that also harm my body temple. I need to learn to forgive.

4 years later I am visiting my Dad in the hospital as he is dying of lung cancer because he started smoking at the age of 12 and now dying at the age of 56. This was before they had the warnings on cigarette packages and as far as I know Dad had not had any warnings and was crying because he knew he would be leaving me an orphan. I don't resent him, but I know the pain of being left alone and living in different households not having parents because cigarettes played a big roll in both deaths.

I have had other family members who died because of smoking so that is one habit I didn't pick up my habit is over eating and just as deadly so I understand pet sins and wanting to keep them. Maybe we should try and understand why we want to keep them and then lay them down at Jesus feet asking God to help us give up our pet sins. Maybe we have made them an idol. Do we put them before God? Is smoking more important than God? Is eating too much more important than God? Either way we are killing ourselves slowly and is that committing murder? I ask myself these questions too as I am no better than a smoker.

I need to learn to hate sin the way God hates it. The price that was paid to ransom us was very high. Is it worth the pleasure we feel in the moment we submit to our habits? What is the end result of our choices? All I know as a child of 12 I was very lonely and I missed my parents terribly. So I ask myself is my pet sin/habit worth it? Who will I cause pain and loneliness if I continue? Something to think about.....God help us to quit I pray.

Honestly, I don't think it really matters if we smoke, or don't smoke in life....
......it's only when we are "blowing smoke" to God about wanting to stop the bigger sins, that we do not really intend to change with Him, that matters. :(

You should want to quit simply because it smells funny on people's clothes.

No Way! God is not turning a deaf ear to your prayers!

What you're experiencing is CONDEMNATION and not that gentle leading of the Holy Spirit that calms your nerves and begins to give you HOPE that the desire CAN go on it's own by Him.

You've probably been smoking for some time and are physically and psychologically addicted and that is NO DIFFERENT than being hooked on antidepressants which are just as dangerous, if not more so to the brain chemistry, past a certain point of taking those.

There's chemicals in cigarettes that increase the dopamine [the pleasure hormone] and it's also an amphetamine like a cup of coffee. The brain and body gets those two 'feelings' from smoking and after one is hooked - it also calms the nerves.

I'd no more speak badly about someone addicted to cigarettes than those that are dependent [for whatever reason] on antidepressants or tranquilizers. There are people that have had a very rough life and their Dr will put them on a mild tranquilizer. I personally have a grudge against Drs that give out antidepressants like their harmless candy though.

Now, I'm not trying to say that there's no hope for you but your hope will only come as you just calmly ask the Lord to help you and then forget about it - as far as condemning yourself and then look into quitting aides. Most States are supposed to help people and even supply the Gum or patch replacement or something to help but some in my family have found those e-cigs to be a greater help as do the statistics on those that quit by trying the gum/patch as compared to the e-cigs.
My brother is now dying from lung cancer. My step-mom who I was very-very close to, did as well. So, I'm not saying "Go smoke your brains out" ... but I do understand that some people eat junk food or are over-weight, others are on the meds mentioned earlier and all of those things hurt the body. In fact, on Christian radio I heard that obesity had topped smokers death already. Some people buy food that they never check the ingredients of ... I see it all the time at the Store. MOTHERS loading up the carriage for the kids with JUNK and SODA ... sorry, but that drives me nuts.

The same people that are guilty of other abuses of their body will condemn the poor human that is chemically & psychologically addicted to nicotine.
I take a little magnifier card in my wallet to read the ingredients of all the food at the store. Bread for high fructose corn syrup - Everything for aspartame [it's in ALL GUM]: and other products -- MSG if you look it up online comes under a bunch of other names to fool the public -- and there's other chemicals in some foods that need to be avoided -- especially treats and processed foods - but yep, even bread .......... that are just as dangerous to the body and brain as the fluoride and chloride, etc in most water supplies. Bottled distilled water is cheap and better than any of the others.

I could go on and on because I'm a health food fanatic - but at the same time my bottomline is -- when it comes to prescription drugs and any other chemical/psychological addiction like what your praying about -- beating oneself will never set you free. Only His mercy and you trusting that He 'can' take it and replace it with something else and is capable of miracles as well and then leave it with Him and trust Him with a calm assurance. You can limit 'where' you'll smoke first ... like only outside or in the bathroom -- then sometimes when the urge comes, just get on here or get doing something to distract and the urges only come in spurts anyway, so you'll that one urge will subside. Make smoke free zones wherever you can. Don't make it easy by smoking where you're used to -- or like with your coffee or whatever other thing that triggers the urge.
Some advise setting a Quit Date ... but everyone is different and some need to wean themselves and others can do the cold turkey ... YOU'LL KNOW with His Help and in His timing when and how is best for you as long as that desire is there to be financially free of it --- but sometimes He allows the quitting part to be hard so that the person won't go back to it so easily -- especially during stress and other triggers - cuz they don't want to go through that withdrawling or struggle again.

Maybe find some hard candy like cinnamin drops or spearmint - some with that Tang to it or even a vitamin C tablet ... which will only do your body good because cigarettes eat up 100 mg of C per cig. Yikes - that is a lot and affects everything. You should be taking 100 mg of Vit C for every cigerette you do. You can't overdose on C but it absolutely Vital for your health and the most important antioxidant. My step mom couldn't take C [so she thought] and my brother wasn't taking enough.

TRUST GOD and do not get into condemnation -- because the more condemnation that you feel the more stress you're under and the more you'll need a cigarette to calm down .... but look for calm and effective ways to start to replace a cig here and there and where you smoke and pray knowing that He Loves you so very much that He would not beat you with condemnation but will gently help you step by step easing down --- just as they get people off of antidepressants or tranquilizers as the addiction is just as strong for those as for nicotine .... so have mercy but keep calmly praying and doing what you can to ease back some and above all things - Trust that He can give you different replacement tricks along the way and you're on His Timetable not other people's. They'd never have an antidepressant taker quit over-night or cold turkey. A missionary doctor told me that he went to a seminar on smoking and it's right up there as No#1 with heroine. Some have a brain chemistry that can quit easily - other don't, but HE Knows every cell of your body and you're precious to Him. Conviction is Not Condemnation. There's a Huge difference when it comes to these lesser sins. It's not like the sins He mentions in 1 Corth and Rev, etc. ... but just something addicting that doesn't make you "high" - just whatever it does for you. Some folks drink and that's wrong ... except for maybe an occasional one glass of wine -- if needed.... but there's chemicals in beer and even some wines now that are not healthy for the body.

Some people are harder on smokers than on alcoholics or those that need meds for every normal mood that all humans go through and that's trusting the drug industry to have 'pure' drugs with no dangerous "other ingredients" in those drugs ... like our food and water does as well. Do what you can and please trust Him with it.
Keep your Eyes On Him. He doesn't mind at all if we use our own brains, but He's the pretty Ingenious One, ya know, :D and He Loves you!

Will be praying for your money situation, for your needs - as your van. Joining with all others that are praying too.

Please don't think that because you are smoking God wants to zap you for doing something wrong and this is why your van isn't working or that you have financial troubles. We live in a world of sin and satan also is working against us. If you are having financial problems then there is one good reason for you to stop smoking as it would free up the money you spend on smokes to use in another area as smoking is not a cheap habit. The van might be going bad because it is old and wearing out not because God wants to punish you.

Dear Father please help our sister to submit her smoking habit to You and to allow You to help her quit this habit. Please make smoking distasteful to her and that she would desire to have a healthier body for Your Holy Spirit to dwell in. Father please wrap Your arms of love around her and bring her peace and victory over this habit. Help with her financial problems and also that the van would run or that she will be able to get the van repaired. Help her to build her faith and trust in You I pray in Jesus Name Amen.

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." - Romans 8:1

LORD Jesus,
thank You for hearing our earnest prayers, thank You for cleansing us from sin with Your blood. I now claim this verse for Your child, LORD. Help this person realise Your super-abounding Grace and Forgiveness. I declare in Your Name that all these bad habits will be removed from the body of this precious child of Yours, that because we have conviction in Your Finished Work, that we have the strength to go and sin no more.

I set this person at Your feet, LORD, that You may teach him Your ways and hold him close. Let him feel Your love, LORD, and remind him that nothing is impossible for You, Father.

I pray this in Jesus most precious name,

Amen.

JL, it is interesting to me that God had placed you in the life of Tourist knowing as He does how smoking has so affected your life in a negative way. Do I think this is coincidence? Not on your life! God has put you in Tourist's life at least partially to help him with his smoking habit. Keep encouraging him, he doesn't need ciggies he has you!

I agree with all opinions mentioned above but I'm going to stray out onto a lim here and box the spiritual aspect out and put it to one side just for a tick. You smoke, you made a decision one day in your past to pick up one of these dreadful things. I'm going to use a word now....addiction, you are addicted. You need to confront this head on...in the real world...now!!! Break the habits that surround and support your smoking....that create the cycle that keeps going round and round. I don't need to mention all the support you can get from quit lines etc. Introducing the spiritual aspect back in again....This spirit of addiction that now resides in you has to be broken. How much do you what this...you stated you enjoyed it...hmmm...your addicted to a substance...it's your body calming as it gets it's fix of nicotine. I know it's hard, but it's for your life! I've witnessed people (in their 40's) die from this evil habit. Reading this back l feel it may be a tad harsh but trust me when I say, this is coming from a heart that really cares for you...and I don't even know you. I'll say it once more..."it's for your life"!!! Make it happen!!! God bless!!!

King David said that if he had hidden sins in his heart God would not hear his prayers. (Psalm 66:18) When we close off communication with the Lord God, hiding in shame and fear, it's impossible to hear His Voice. But when we open up our hearts to Him, not only pouring out our hearts to Him, but allowing His Holy Spirit to shed His light in our hearts and revealing the hidden things, we have clear communication. God hears our prayers and we hear Him answering our prayers.

Are you trying to hide your cigarette habit from God? Evidently not because all of this site now knows you're a smoker.

Smoking is certainly an unhealthy habit. So is overeating, an unhealthy diet, alcoholism, drug dependency, lack of exercise, too much TV viewing, computer addiction, electronic game addiction, pornography, romance novel & soap opera addiction, shopaholic addiction, too much caffeine, etc., etc. Worse habits to admit to are: lying, manipulating others, co-dependency, gossip, cursing, procrastination, fear, doubt, vanity, greed, anger, jealousy, lust, gluttony, prejudice, impatience, self-righteousness, etc., etc. I don't think anybody on this site can say they don't struggle with something in their flesh.

Here's the solution for all bad habits: The Lord will complete what He started in you. Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith. We have no power of ourselves to accomplish victory over anything. "Not by might nor by power but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts." (Zechariah 4:6) We must come to the end of ourselves again and again and again, surrendering not just our mind but our lives completely, and receive the Holy Spirit of God into our hearts to make us more and more into the image of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We have to run boldly to the throne of grace with confidence, again and again and again, drawing nearer to God our Father and receiving His mercy and finding His grace to help us in our time of need. It is a daily process, running to the Lord, casting our weakness to Him, resting in His love, trusting Him to renew us from glory to glory.

Receive God's love for you. And love Him back by believing Him, believe that He loves you and wants to build you up so you can live a life of freedom and peace in Him.

Father God, I thank You that You hear and answer our prayers and that You are not hiding from our sister, Faithandlove. Let her ears be open to hear Your Voice and let her find rest in Your mighty arms of love. Thank You for Your great mercies and Your amazing faithfulness that You would send Your Son Jesus to die on the Cross for us and make our sins as far from You as the East is from the West. Hallelujah!! Thank You!!!

♥ We praise You for loving us and making us vessels of honor for You! We glorify Your Holy Name, Jesus!!! ♥

First, you need to see this habit as displeasing to God, because it is slowly destroying your whole body. Cigarette smoke destroys more than just the lungs. So do you get pleasure, knowing every time you breath in smoke, you are breathing in over 5000 chemicals, and more than 54 known carcinogens? My father witnessed autopsies of smokers and non-smokers who had died. The smokers had lungs like lumps of black coal, the non-smokers had pink, light lungs.

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, [SUP]20 [/SUP]for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Cor. 6:19-20

You are addicted, and that is also sin. It means you are putting something above and before God.

I will pray that you will wake up and see that you are destroying a beautiful body that God gave you. I know God can help you quit.
