Hello all. I am terrified I have crossed the point of no return with God. After having fallen away for many years and living a life of sin I felt compelled to pick up my Bible on a recent trip to my family home and read Hebrews. As I read I became distraught with despair by the warning passages. I feel as if they are describing me perfectly. I am disgusted and ashamed with the choices I have made. I have sinned against the mercy of God and fear I have become so hardened that it is impossible to restore me to repentance. I fear there is no longer a sacrifice for my sin. I fear that like Esau I cannot ever find a place for repentance. I want to return to the Lord but fear I am not welcome back and there are no guarantees of forgiveness. I have am in despair and it is a cage of my own making. I ask for prayers as I cry out to Jesus for restoration and forgiveness. Pray for me as I seek restoration. Maybe God will extend his mercy once more to me. Thank you all.

I honestly think that your worry is the best sign you have NOT went too far. I will pray for you and hope that He gives you the peace, mercy, and security you seek. If I can help in any way please don't hesitate to ask.

What is your interpretation of 3:29, the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?

Don't wait another minute, repent now, with a heart of forgiveness, with sorrow, with a true intention of never leaving the Father again, with love....then get to church and speak with a pastor and let him know of your rekindling...

I want to add that maybe the first time was more about your feelings and that maybe this time is about a choice, your at a crossroads...you do have a choice right now to make

I honestly think that those who have truly blasphemed the Holy Spirit do not worry about it. In my opinion you would have to truly believe in the Holy Spirit to blaspheme It. Like those little videos that show people in the "blasphemy challenge", are not really commenting the unforgivable sin in my opinion, but I do reserve the right to be wrong, but most say they don't even believe in God, how can they truly blaspheme something the think doesn't exist? Now that is admittedly just my own opinion, but once you have hardened your heart to the point that salvation is no longer possible for you I really don't think you'd ever "worry" about it then. See what I'm saying? Again I have to say that this is just the way I see it, but I wholeheartedly feel that if you were truly at a place of no return as far as salvation goes, you would not care nor be worried. I would really like it if you could read this My testimony to Gods glory in my life. It's long but worth a read. and see where I'm coming from at least. It doesn't really deal with exactly what you're worried about, but does tell how God worked in my life, and that even at times where I thought I understood the situation, I really had no clue. The way you've come here to ask question, the worry in your comments, and the way this seems to really be bothering you all suggest to me that you HAVE NOT "gone to far", nor committed the unforgivable sin. I will try to find scripture to help back up my "opinion", but I really think you still want God and Jesus Christ judging from you comments. I will try to post some scriptural support ASAP.

About that part where you think God doesn't guarantee forgiveness. Here's something you need to read.
Acts 3:
17 And now, brethren, I know that in ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.18 But the things which God foreshowed by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled.
19 Repent ye therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that so there may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord;
20 and that he may send the Christ who hath been appointed for you, even Jesus:
21 whom the heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, whereof God spake by the mouth of His holy prophets that have been from of old.

It took a conscious decision to accept Christ to become 'saved'. Only a conscious decision to reject Him will ever take that salvation away. As Jimbone said, the fact that you are worried about it says that you haven't done that. Those who have wouldn't care.

What you did is backslide. In backsliding, you still believe you just don't walk it. What blaspheme talks about is apostasy, or outright turning away. Short of apostasy your salvation is guaranteed.

If you truly seek a place of repentance God will bring you to one. Confess, and show a contrite heart, then accept forgiveness and move on... this time in the right direction. God doesn't want you wallowing, He wants you to rejoin the march. So get on with it my brother!

I am overwhelmed by the support you all have provided and the prayers you have prayed. The wisdom you all have shared has made sense and helped me greatly. I have prayed for forgiveness and rededicated my life to Jesus. I know I cannot do this without the grace of God and am so thankful He called me back out of the depths of my sin. I am still ashamed of my sin and worried about my hardness of heart but I am going to make a conscious decision to trust the grace and love of God and immerse myself in the word of God. Surely the depths of the mercy of our Lord is greater than my sin. God is greater and mightier than any problem. By the grace of God let me never wander again. Forgive my infidelity Lord Jesus and restore me to your love. Again thank you all for your prayers. There is power when the people of God pray!

SearchingProdigal....name one single BIBLICAL hero or heroine who's mighty sins were swept under a rug. BINGO! NONE...all people in the BIBLE had many faults and sinful lives..past and present. We read of murderers (Moses, Saul/Paul, David), we read of sexual promiscuity (too many to post), we read of all kinds of shameful disgusting acts of sin. Yet, the beauty of it all is that GOD forgives and casts those sins as far as the East is from the West. Do not miss out on that point! Are you telling us that the power of a single drop of the blood of JESUS has lost it's potential? That JESUS died in vain because YOU think you have outdone the forgiveness meter of GOD? How dare you put yourself on such a high plateau! lol Why, JESUS not only has and can forgive you of your past, but you are a perfect candidate for a new life in HIM, full of hope, joy, filled with HIS Holy Spirit and raised up to be heirs and joint heirs with JESUS Himself! Stop wallowing in your past and stand up and salute CHRIST and mean it!!!!!

Psalm 51: My sacrifice [the sacrifice acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart [broken down with sorrow for sin and humbly and thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise.

jesus' sacrifice is enough, God's grace sufficient. you'll be forgiven, and sin again. He knows our future. have the right heart and give thanks.
