Father God I pray that you would strengthen her during this time. I pray that you would help her to resist the temptation to smoke. Your word says that nothing is impossible for you. I pray that you would give her a scripture or a word to cling on to during this time. In Jesus name Amen.

i know what you are going thru, I've been praying God will take the desire away from me. I have cut down drastically. One of the things I've done is get a barnd I don't like. I've always smoked menthol so now I marlboro reds. It helps me not want to smoke as much.

There are triggers..after dinner, when I get on the phone, when I'm stressed, so I'm trying to take a walk or chew gum.

I'm praying for you, let's not be discouraged but we can pray for each other.

It's bondage and Jesus came to set the captives free. I beleive Him.
Day two on trial week/practice week. It's both as hard as I feared and yet I see God working it out too. I always want one. I only "needed" one during a mild freak out yesterday. (Need referrals from doctor for this week and next week, yet couldn't get through to his office, because no one was there, so thought I might have to find yet another doctor. Today, after a mere week, one of the office women finally got back to me.)

The biggest problem I have is I keep looking forward to that next cigarette. THat's what bothered me in the first place. lol

So, I usually smoke over three packs a day, and I haven't smoked a pack in 1.75 days. Still going for quitting next week. God's proving he's doing his part. I just need the leap to do mine.

(I figure you'd understand this the most. lol)

Although I have never smoked myself, I am allergic to tobacco smoke, so I am always available to help and encourage someone wanting to quit. One less smoker to worry about! LOL

Seriously, God does have an answer to this dilemma, and I will commit to pray for you to overcome this terrible addiction, that is destroying your body.

How on earth does someone take up smoking AFTER becoming a Christian? Just curious!
Got saved.

Mom died. (Both Mom and Dad smoked three packs a day my enitre like. Mom did die from cancer, but not caused by smoking oddly enough.)

Moved back with Dad.

No support or Christian community to draw from.

A couple of years later, first year in college, and started smoking pot with roommates. Loved it. (Addictive personality also.) Third year of college, I learned menthol cigarettes makes the high last long. I don't like menthol, so I started smoking regulars.

Next year of college all my friends/roommates graduated, found the wrong people to get drugs from, ended up getting raped, and went to rehab. Sadly, back then rehab doesn't make people quit tobacco.

I have never claimed to be the most brilliant person in the world. I sadly lack common sense as a given, but have been learning how to use it through God's help since. lol

I sat across a smoking poster, waitng at the hospital recently. it was a graphic picture of a body with different parts of the body sick from head to toe. Shown were diseases caused by or aggravated by smoking: blindness and cataracts, sinusitis, heart problems, lung disease, diabetes, digestive ulcers, gout, cancers of various kinds incl. colon, liver, etc., reproductive defects...
Sorry the dangling modifier, so late to correct when i saw. But thats not the impt thing here really. Now how does one multiquote... oh never mind, but think i can just Like others' posts bec. theres no time to figure things out now.

I quit smoking finally 8 years ago (I easily quit for pregnancies and nursing though) by battling out each withdrawal with smoke in mouth and thumb on lighter. It all comes down to are you going to light or not? Every thing else going on in your head is just excuses. The only right time to quit is right now. After 3 days of doing this I realized I had beat it and only then did I discard the rest.

Oh btw, the biggest surprise to me was the first 1-2 years of what was hiding behind my numbing nicotine addiction.... It was anger...I felt totally like I was now facing my anger "organically". That was the harder issue to tackle.

Have you seen the lifehouse everything skit on YouTube or Vimeo? I watched it many many times during the first 3 days. Watched it again just now and it's still so powerful!
