Hey well I went today and thanks for all those who prayed for me. I got to radiology and I was given an Xanax so that I would not have anxiety and claustrophobia. well, I never got to be put directly in the machine. The Xanax had worn off after about half hour and that was before I was called in the back. I was going to be in that machine 45 minutes!!! No one told me this and I was not too educated on the MRI anyhow. so I called the clinic back and talked to the nurse with my hospital gown on and all. No clothes on from the waste down.. lol I had to make sure nothing fell out as I was talking on their phone. THe tech said do you want to get dressed first I said nope the clinic closes at a certain time and they stop answering the phones before closing. So I was allowed in another room and made the call then I went in the appointment office still not dressed and made my new appointment for Friday, I told the nurse I wanted Ativan instead used it before when getting cat scan. I told them to drug me up and being as that I am a fat girl I may need a little more. The nurse I talked to was shocked that the Xanax wore off so quickly she actually said I still should have been under as I was talking to her.. I did not feel a thing. The women who made my new appointment said the Xanax does not last long anyhow.;. another tech helped me keep my gown on.. I had everyone laughing with my humor..

My late wife used Ativan(Lorazepam) for anxiety for years. She understood about CAT scans too. I pray that things go well for you.

Yeah Monique, during a CAT scan or MRI, you MUST BE MOTIONLESS while you're in the machine. Otherwise they can't do it properly and you'll have to keep stopping and starting. Usually in an MRI they turn on the radio and give you headphones and music to listen to. Next time bring a stress ball or small stuffed animal with you to squeeze. That's what I do. :) Just keep your eyes closed, squeeze the ball and relax..There's no pain involved.

I have a special needs child who used Ativan after acting up it worked but since its addictive and it causes an upset stomach the doctor would give it in control environment later they let me take a few home so my child could be calm at school.

I'll say it again... OPEN MRI. There are a variety of different types, and none of them have you jammed into a tiny tunnel.

I agree, if there's an "Open MRI" in your area, that your insurance would cover, that's always an option. I have always done the Open MRI myself, but if that's not an option, then focus on relaxing & you'll get through just fine:)
