Hey guys, I'm finally getting my teeth sorted after a good decade of them being screwed up... It's gonna be a long and painful and expensive(£1000) as I am 23 but they are that bad I just wanna get them sorted.

However, my problem lies in one tiny thing which will undergo today - the dreaded mouth X-Ray.
I had one around eight months ago in another city when they were checking my teeth for fillings and I couldn't have it done as I kept slapping the dentist away. I don't quite know what I'm afraid of, I can't even say I'm afraid of gagging as usually I never feel nauseated or even scared at the dentist. I think I fear not being able to breathe and it always stops me from getting my teeth properly checked but today is not an option.

I really need this work done as it's ruining my self esteem and I surely can't let a one second examination stop the entire process.

Please pray that the X-Ray won't involve what it did (apparently there's an easier way to X-Ray mouths now) or if it does, I'm able to bite down on the plastic card.

Sorry for such a random request!!!!

Hi Musicmiss. I think it was you that I remember playing piano in chat a few years back. You play so well. :) A lot of people get freaked out at the dentist so you're certainly not alone. Getting an x-ray is just like taking a photo. I believe the plastic card is just something like a background to help the teeth show up better. We get hit with x-rays from the sun whenever we're outside and even more so when we fly on a plane. There's nothing to worry about, but I will pray that God gives you a sense of peace when you're at the dentist. God bless you. :)

Praying for you, my dear friend! Praying that God grants you all the bravery and boldness that you need to fix your teeth.

(Remember, God hasn't given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind)
You are an overcomer!

I agree, it's not fun at all b/c they put plastic spacers in your mouth that make you look like a jellyfish with lips outstretched and "hold it" until they x ray.......the worst is when they make wax molds of your teeth to show your overbite/underbite.....yuck....Just push through sister...no pain no gain :) I had to go through that and it was not fun and took some years of braces but thankfully I have nice straight teeth now an no more braces....it will be worth it when you have that stellar smile and people compliment you on it! I know I appreciated the compliments after all the years of wearing railroad tracks to finally get it right lol :)

Forgot to add to avoid the gag feeling, just consciously breathe through your nose.....it makes it a lot easier and you will calm down too :)

Try having the mindset that you are going to hold the film perfectly with your teeth for the pictures. Ask, beforehand, exactly how many they are going to take so that you can count them as they are finished, and keep the welcomed approaching end of the task in your mind. Often, it is thinking ,"This seems to be going on FOREVER". that gives us unneeded anxiety.

Prayed.

Let them know how you feel before they start. I'm sure they have patients that are nervous (or even terrified) about all sorts of things.
