Hi I started with toothache this morning :(
my wisdom tooth right at the back.

I really dont have time to see a dentist this side of Christmas. It would
probably take two visits as well, one to see what the problem might be and
a second for treatment.

It would be difficult to get time off work during the week, my dentist
doesn't work weekends and besides, all my days off are full of
medical visitors for my aunt. I'm trying to get everything sorted for her
before the Christmas break.

So I would really appreciate prayer that all will be well and it will
stop aching. It feels more like the gum is the problem rather than
the tooth, but the gum doesn't look red or inflamed.

Im trying not to bite down too hard on anything at the moment. :(

I certainly know the pain of a toothache and I feel bad for you. I pray that God removes this pain until the time comes when you can get the tooth extracted. I also know all about the scheduling of medical appointments and coordinating this with your employer for the time off. My late wife was very sick and all my days off and vacation time centered around her medical appointments. All of my scarce free time after work was spent taking care of her and I was sleep deprived for years. She's gone to a better place now. You are a saint for taking care of your aunt the way that you do. Your reward in heaven will be great. I know that you are not taking care of her for any reward but do so out of your love for God in your humble service for the Lord. God Bless You.

Aw thanks, don't these things just happen when it's most problematic.

Hopefully there is an easy solution. My toothaches have ended in root canals and extractions. Maybe skip the dentist and see an endodontist. Meanwhile, maybe ibuprofen will control the pain.

Try rinsing with warm salt water. Also, check your pharmacy and see if you can get Orajel. Not sure what they would market it as there. You could also get any doctor or dentist to just write you a prescription for antibiotics to calm the inflammation and swelling down and it would buy you a few weeks of relief. I recently had a virus and broke out with cold sores and oral ulcers and my gums ached. What really soothed it was rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash. Try Listerine. Tooth pain is awful :(

Whats an endodontist, it sounds like a prehistoric elephant.

Root canal wouldn't be worthwhile as it's my wisdom tooth (I still have them all) and it's
still partly under the gum line.

Endodontist is a root canal specialist. It's rare though to do a root canal on a wisdom tooth. Most would just extract the tooth, unless you are missing other molars and using that tooth to chew

An endodontist does root canals. If they have to pull it, you wouldn't miss it much, would you?

Could it be this? (I found this weird name a few days ago because my jaw has been "clicking" for a few years, and occasionally I get this intense pain which feels like it's in the bone rather than the teeth or gums

Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMG, TMJ disorder, TMD)

  • Clicking or popping sound from jaw
  • Stiffness or decreased movement
  • Tenderness to touch
  • Jaw locking
  • Grinding teeth

  • Pain or discomfort
  • Headache
  • Ear ache
  • Unable to open mouth (jaw)
  • Difficulty opening mouth

I don't think so, my jaw doesn't click, it's definately the tooth/gum.

The worst of the pain has eased off now, but I'm still having to be
careful about chewing on that side. Plus the gum is now a little swollen.

Just hoping for healing, or that it least it doesn't get too bad and will hold out until
after Christmas.

I am praying that the pain would continue to Ease that God would bless you this Christmas time. Oh Clove oil is great for dental pain. Rub it on the gum but do not what a friend did and drink it. Dentists recomend clove oil!

Buy some vademecum , put some undiluted on a cotton swap and pat it on the sore spot. If it is caused by a cut or something (which is sometimes the case) it might help to kill of any germs trying to cause trouble

If you can stand the taste Rub turmeric on it you can buy the caps at Walmart it will taste gross but it will take away under lying inflammation if any and relieve the pain... If it is a wisdom tooth it may need filling or worse case a pull. I would not waste thousands of dollars on a root canal on a wisdom tooth.... There is my wisdom for you today lol Prayers you feel better..

Thanks for all your words of wisdom!

Its not been too bad today, slightly niggly but not anything which has bothered me.
Hopefully it's on its way out (the pain I mean!)

My dentist is an NHS dentist, I still have to pay but it's nowhere near as expensive as
going to a private dentist. Hopefully I won't need to go at all.:)
Thanks for praying.

yea, I remember my surprise at the low prices in the UK. Hope it sorts itself out for you without one though.
