I am at a crossroad, like a 4 way or 6 way one. I don't know which direction to take. How do I know Gods will for me? If he would only show me I would drop everything and do his will! Should I stay in Canada and be a paramedic? Should I go to Mexico and be a missionary? Where do you want me? Ninivah? Sure!! I'll go there! I won't pull a Jonah I promise. I just need some direction ok God please or a sign that im doing the right thing and going in the right direction. Pray for me if you can understand what im saying here Please. Thank you. Any words of experience or advice also appreciated.

What many people get wrong is focusing so much on God's will that we forget to preach the gospel to our family and friends and completely go against God...
America sends out more missionaries than any other country; yet, our country is becoming very anti Christian very quickly do to our lax'ness....

Preach God's word, and show Him through your actions... If He calls you somewhere, you will know...
Ask yourself, have you preached to your neighbors and friends and family? You can talk to them, where as a "missionary" off the street might not be allowed in their home...

We think it more glamorous and God like to be a Paul and go to other countries, but some of us are more gifted in the countries we are from... And will be far better use in our home country...

Maybe God has given you a good job to fund those who are supposed to go and preach, or maybe, he has given you certain friends to be an example or a light for them....

I know from my town, even saying "thank you God bless" is a huge statement... But a foreigner saying that might be taken off as that is their culture... But since I am from my town, they can see an instant difference that they can't explain just through culture.

Thank you for your input. For the record the reason why I want to do a mission is not because I want to be glamorous and God like, it's to get to know God better in my DTS and find myself, hopefully finding a purpose in the process.

Assuming from your post I am going to guess you are somewhere between 18-late 20's...

I want to start off by saying, I apologize for making it sound like I know exactly who you are... I don't know you from Adam, so I have to guess on reasons you might feel this way and respond to those guesses...

As far as knowing God better, it does not come from knowing different people... There is only 2 ways to know God better, 1 is by reading His word, 2 is by living His word... You can only do 2 if you are doing 1...

Secondly for many reasons the millennial generation thinks they need to travel to another culture to find out who they are... This is hogwash, you already know who you are, and if you don't you skipped all of childhood... Every decision you have ever made tells you who you are... Instead of going to another culture, take some time and look back at every choice you have made and ask what type of person would have made that choice... By the end of your questioning you will know who you are better than going and hoping you see it in a foreign county.

Also the best way to know who you are, is through God... This sounds vague, but you can find who you are through what sins you do, and by reading about Him.

In my opinion you don't need to go to Mexico to fulfill what you want, you could do it exactly where you live...

Edit: I am only 22 so I fall in the millennial generation, I am not talking down to you, but explaining what I see in all my friends and acquaintances.

I went through a very similar feeling when I was 18-21... I wanted to go homeless throughout the U.S. and preach the gospel...
I felt lost, but I envisioned myself doing something spectacular for God and I looked at myself where I was and I saw I wasn't doing anything spectacular for God...

I cried out for God to tell me what to do... I told him I would do anything he wanted... But the whole time in doing this, I forgot the many people I saved and reinforced their faith.... God's plan is for us to be heralds where ever we are...

We should always be a Light in the Darkness, through our actions and through our words... And sometimes we shine the brightest in the most dark places, without knowing it...

Just remember, before Paul went out to preach to the Gentiles, he preached the the Jews... He preached until they wouldn't listen anymore then he went to a new place...

It is easy to run away from what is obviously ahead, because it is too hard.
Dreams are mostly just that.

Unless you are called you stay in the place you are, because that is your calling.
Loving those you know, dealing with the issues you hide and deny, is where the gospel
really works and is.

With a pure heart and a clean conscience everything becomes much more obvious.
In our own culture, with our own friends, we have all the skills to bring the message home,
except what is truly missing is often the very message we wish to bring.

With a open heart, moved by the Holy Spirit, we know what we need to do.

God's will for us to become saved: John 6:40 - For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

God's will for us after we have been saved: 1 Thessalonians 5:14 - Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Nomi, I hate to tell you this but I've been a Christian for almost two decades now and I'm still waiting for clear direction as to what God wants me to do. It's been said that many people are ready to do a big work for God and few people are willing to do the small ones. Trust me I get it, it's easier to go somewhere that nobody knows you and will only judge you according to your current actions. You can more successfully reinvent yourself when everybody around you doesn't remind you of who you used to be. Perhaps a clean slate is what you want but your mission field isn't where you are going, it's where you are. God chose you to be right where you are right now, to bring His love and message to the people you see everyday. You are no longer the person you were and nobody should be able to see that transformation clearer that the ones who knew you before. Our purpose as Christians isn't to change lives, it's to be a witness and testimony to the One who can. Don't keep running looking for something better. Be the something better that has others running to you so you can testify to the love of the Savior and grace of the Father. Believe me when I say that I'm writing this to both of us. My life does not reflect the impact that I set to accomplish many years ago. Recently God has explained to me that pride is what causes the desire for my life to display worldly signs of success. The world programs us to believe that by having more things and experiencing pleasure will bring us joy and happiness. This is all vanity and feeding the flesh. Chemically this causes our brain to become less satisfied. God explained to me how that works too. We all need to to eat so if being a paramedic is something you enjoy it's definitely a good career choice. February in Canada, who wouldn't want to go to Mexico, for "missionary work"? Lastly, do not seek someone who you think is going to make you happy. You are still healing and until you are strong on your own you will be drawn to partners who will be less than suitable. I just felt the need to add that. Be blessed and may the Lord increase you in strength and wisdom.

Don’t ask for a sign:

But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Matt 12:39 RSV

Have some patience:

Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
yea, wait for the LORD! Psalm 27:14 RSV

DEU. 1:17.
You shall not respect persons in judgment; but you shall hear the small as well as the great;
you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the Judgment is God's: and the cause
that is too hard for you, bring unto Me, and I will hear it.

it wouldn't hurt any to READ the WORD of God, which contains all answers for 'all-things'...
