Hi all,

I haven't posted on CC for about a year; I wonder if anyone's missed me! :)

Since then, I've started working in a nursing home, in dietary aide. I pass trays, fix desserts, do dishes, bus tables, among a few other things.

And sometimes, the job gets very stressful. Like when people leave work early and you have to do their job on top of yours. Or they don't come in at all. Or you have to go back and rework work already done because it was done wrong. It just gets stressful for this and other reasons.

Some of you might remember I have bipolar, and managing stress is very key to maintaining stability for me. I've been looking into books on meditation and other forms of positive thinking to help alleviate stress.

I guess what I want prayers for is strengthening my mind in the areas of positive thinking and right perspective. Not focusing on the negative of a situation and having a can-do attitude. That's all.

Thank you all!

Seems to me that you're handling the stress quite well. I have said a prayer for God to take the stress and turn it into a positive situation.

I would be cautious about 'positive thinking'. Most of what is out there is a form of introductory new age. On the surface it all seems acceptable, and may be, but the deeper you delve into it the more spiritual it becomes. It's often very subtle and many Christians miss it. I'd say at least 95% of 'positive thinking' sites, books, etc that i've ever seen have been nothing more than gateways to new age thinking.
Many Christians debate meditation, but what is taught as meditation in the secular world is pretty much new age as well. Just a friendly warning to be cautious as you are headed into some very deceptive and subtle areas. Keep in mind that new age is a form of occult thinking.
I have a friend who thinks she can follow the bible and new age both. She engages in very occult based rituals (though she denies the occult aspect) and later will quote scripture. She gave up church for new age beliefs. Now most of her beliefs are dictated by her new age thinking. Her meditating, chakra, power of gems, etc.

Jamie... Some encouragement for you... One thing I have learned through the years in my walk with the Lord & what the Lord had shown me in so many ways, is to have a heart of thankfulness & gratitude in all things. I know its easy to say this, but can be difficult when facing the daily demands of each new day that comes. I have learned that keeping my heart & mind nourished in the word daily is the best way to keep my mind & heart renewed & healthy. I personally believe in my heart the importance of keeping a thankful heart in all things. This is not positive thinking, but simply comes from trusting in your Heavenly Father. On any given day, there can be hundreds of things that can pull us down or defeat us, but keeping the Joy in the Lord is the best medicine for Life & Peace:)
