My doc gave a request for thyroid tests due to some symptoms probably of hyperthyroidism. I missed to ask how often the tests need to be done, but on checking online, one site said the ATA recommends thyroid function test from age 35 every 5 yrs. Now I remember having had TSH test just last year.

As I have been trying to juggle some stuff the past weeks (more correctly years=), I have been rather tired and get less sleep. Ive started to sleep better some weeks ago, but then again realize ive been waking up more often at night recently. Missed an ob-gyne sked last week, and another doctor interpreted ecg and lab results as normal, but she recommended the ft4 and tsh thyroid tests.
Here is what I saw.

Some symptoms of hyperthyroidism include: (those in itals. i experience)

· Nervousness or irritability
· Heat intolerance
· Frequent bowel movements
· Fatigue or muscle weakness
· Trouble sleeping
· Mood swings
· Rapid heartbeat

Sometimes going to so many doctors can use up so much time, so I want to minimize visits wc I may not need really. Just tired juggling this particular matter in my head… If I get blood test this am, wc I wish I don’t need to, I get results tom. yet so need to go again to bring results to doc if it is positive. If I don’t get tsh test yet, I really planned to go to doc today for some shoulder pains this week anyway.
Any ideas? Salamat.

I'm surprised it's so complicated and time consuming for thyroid issues. I've known a number of people that just had their thyroids tested at one doctor and got results. Then were put on meds to alleviate the problem by that same doctor. It's crazy all they are making you do.

Thanks. I went to other doctor last week because i missed an ob-gyne's sked and wanted to ask some things as well. There's an alternate doctor i like to go to coz he is so patient to answer many questions when u have them, with sked on Th, F and S only nearby. But i prefer to have had the thyroid test this morning if i needed to before going. No, no one is letting me do many things-- i am just minimizing doc visits and trips, not that they are inaccessible, but i live in a somewhat remote place (my place is inaccessible!) and choose to reduce trips so time-consuming, that one could use for other matters=). Sorry to be a bother.

You might ask to get your vitamin d levels and RBC magnesium levels tested. It just might be the root cause of your symptoms. I have the same symptoms as you and been to countless specialists and all test came back normal except for low vitamin D. I just had my thyroid and cortisol levels checked also.

Thank you, taro. It may be that i just want to believe it is not thyroid trouble. Not that i know much abt vit D deficiency, but i understand that is more common in countries with less sunshine and ppl less exposed to it. I'll look into what u said.

I’m so sorry to hear about your health problem. Though I don’t have any advice, I just said a prayer for you, asking the Lord to touch you with His healing hands and to surround you with His strength and peace. Be assured that He cares about every detail of your life. Sending hugs & prayers your way!

Thanks all for ur prayers. My favorite doc said he didnt think it is thyroid problem based on symptoms. Yes, God does care about every detail of our lives, and i am thankful He would not let me get an extra blood test that is not really needed. Thankful also for patient (meant tolerant/understanding) doctors who take the trouble to look into the details of our health like a slightly elevated heartrate, etc and who take time to help us discover real remedies, not bandaid solutions...
