I am newly back in the family of Christ Jesus and this coming Saturday I'm getting baptized, huge deal for me. My thing is I know God n Jesus doesn't want me to smoke cigarettes. The Holy Spirit has been making n breaking me daily. I've quit weed, alcohol, cussing, sometimes I slip and say a bad word but quickly ask for forgiveness. Anyone have any suggestions for help in prayers to pray or bible versus, to strengthen me in my resolve to quit smoking cigarettes?

I smoked heavily for ten years, then spent two years cutting back and trying to quit. Finally got myself to quit cold turkey but had a weekend relapse several months later. Then I quit cold turkey and haven't had tobacco since. What I always say is that the pain will leave you in six weeks, so just stop smoking.

Just so you know that you don't need to quit smoking to get baptised.

You are getting baptised because

Romans 10:8-13
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

To me if you were still smoking next Saturday that will not negate your baptism.

I know but I believe when it states in the Bible" your body is a temple of the Lord " Smoking is not taking good care of this temple and very unhealthy for me as well. I want to be a Godly example to the world.

if you have been convicted to be baptized, what in the world's carnal ways
could possibly keep you from quitting what your Saviour has said is
destructive to your 'new life and testimony' for your family and friends, world,
to witness?
