Hi prayer warriors,

Today I went to the doctor. He weighed me and measured my height and then told me that I am 20 -25 kg overweight.
Obviously I am aware of the health risks involved such as type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease - and I find it worrying.

I struggle with insomnia so sometimes I go for a 36 hour period of no sleep and then 14 hours of sleep.Due to this it is difficult to exercise but tomorrow I am going to buy a bike and try my best to get out of this sedentary rut.

Please pray that I will indeed make lifestyle changes which will aid lasting and permanent weight loss and improved sleep habits.
Please also be aware that I have already changed numerous things about my diet and lifestyle , such as ; upping water intake, making healthful juices, eating more vegetables, legumes and salads and also reducing the amount of coke I drink.
The hugest obstacle for me to overcome is the fact that I view things such as taking care of my health as being a bit worldly and temporal. After all - there's a world to save right? But common sense tells me that if I don't do something now - there wont be any me to save the world and as time consuming, boring and involved as trying to be healthy is ....it is important on many fronts.

Thank you for those who choose to pray for this matter. It means alot to me as I am not linked in with a small group at church at present.Blessings.

Lord, Please heal Mooky's insomnia and give Mooky the strength to overcome other problems or bad habits that might be affecting this person. Help this person have a Christ-like view of health with their main focus on You. Thank You for this person and the importance of their work in the kingdom of God. In Christ's Name, Amen.

I too got a bike, and that's a while ago. But I grew up with it, I had that get up and go, dad pushed me when I was a kid.
With all the night work I did and Quick meals every night I put all the weight on. Now I found that Not eating is not good ether as that wont kick start the metabolism, things like bread, potatoes & other things have starch in that the body turns to Sugar.
Exercise is Good but its not the only thing that helps, I've noticed once that just going to the shops every now and then, On the bike, or just going down the road, and using it, not just for exercise. that gets me use to using the bike. & I did this. Then I wanted to go that bit further. and I did I went just a little bit further but not till month had past.
Before I knew it I was cycling 31 miles and I was quite fit.
And that's my Goal today, just to get back on that bike and just cycle for fun, not just for exercise yet.
I stay away from sweet things, and a bit of Coco & fish is good for the mind.
I don't eat a lot anyway, but try to eat more for the metabolism.
Our cup needs to be half full sometimes, & not half empty, we can't give if we have nothing to give, but the Holy Spirit do's provide, & says in Mathew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

I pray for Spiritual nourishment in your life, that sometime you will Overflow and be able to give to others what they need, Lord I ask for your abundance of your Love. I pray and ask for your guidance in what we say and what we eat, and not to worry about problems that might arise, for yesterday, today & tomorrow are in your hands Lord. I ask in your precious name Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Dear Father,

Please give Mooky the strength and courage to eliminate the coke completely, cut out all sugar and make time to exercise. Dear Father, you know I struggle the same. Fasting on only water for 12 + hours recently gave me a new appreciation for the possibility of achieving this goal. May we both aspire to inspire other people with the courage and the trust in You to achieve the necessary needs. Amen

1COR. 6:19-20.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

it sure sounds like your Saviour is asking you to prepare yourself for some real business, His...

Stuff that helped me lose that much weight:

-- It's okay to be hungry for a while. I won't really starve to death, even if "I'm staaarving!" Just do something else when I feel like eating. If I'm still staaarving in an hour, eat a good-for-me small meal. (The hunger goes away about half the time. If it doesn't, then the meal stops me from being hungry for another 2 hours. Mind you the "I'm staaarving" thing comes back, but I repeat and it really is time for a real meal by the time I get there.)

-- Eat less. Yes, food tastes good. It does not taste better the more mouthfuls I have, and at some point in time, I will be too full to eat more anyway. So, why not eat less? If 20 mouthfuls makes me stuffed, than it's okay to stop at 15-17 mouthfuls. I'm full, but not stuffed. Full is good enough, and the taste is just as good at the end as it was in the beginning.

-- One year from today is going to come no matter what I do. Do I want to be fatter, thinner, or the same when it comes? I do not have to lose all the weight within a year, but some weight is good. (I lost the weight in five years. I gained seven pounds -- 3 kg. -- when hubby came home. I went back to what works for me, and have lost six of those seven pounds in three months.)

-- Sure, chocolate, sugar, grease, and salt taste good. More is not better though. I do not have to give up junk food. I merely have to figure out how to make it healthier. (I eat dessert every night. Often it taste sweet and grease, and yet, no sugar at all, and max amount of grease is 2 tablespoons for enough desserts to last two of us two weeks. I really like salty junk food too, but gave up Fritoes for pretzels. Oh, and I only have one serving per day... not the whole bag.)

-- I will cheat. I will have too much to eat or the wrong kinds of things to eat sometimes. That's okay. It does not mean give up. It means get back to it. As long as I have twice as many good days as bad days, I will keep going in the right direction.

Insomnia? Got that too. I'm not going to be one of those people who starts listing the 1001 Things to Do to Get Tired bit, because we both know we have no problems with tired. We live with tired. We're very good with tired! It's the sleeping thing that's missing. BUT, if you haven't seen the list yet, so you haven't tried it all, let me know and I'll run it down or find you the good sites that tell them. (Lots of wacky stuff out there too.)

BUT? Have you yet to consider it as a serious health problems? You're worried diabetes, strokes and heart problems are in your future because of being overweight? Yup, you might be right, but the insomnia is causing those things to be close neighbors now, not in the future.

Get a sleep study! The biggest reason for insomnia is sleep apnea. If you can fall asleep, but only for moments at a time, then it is likely you have sleep apnea. If your closest airport calls you to ask you to keep the noise down because you snore that loud, it is likely you have sleep apnea. If you snore at all, it is likely you have sleep apnea.

And what is sleep apnea? When you fall asleep muscles in the back of your mouth relax enough to stop air from entering your lungs. That's what snoring is, and it gets worse than that. I really do snore loud enough to stop my husband from sleeping. I'm so loud, he can't get away even if he shuts my door and goes downstairs. And each of those snores is the lungs fighting my throat muscles over if the air can get in or not. And, I'm not even awake when this battle wages.

It gets worse. I couldn't sleep with hubby because he just out-and-out stopped breathing for 30-60 seconds. The thing that got him breathing again was me poking him in the ribs. (He found this annoying for some reason.) But there is a rhythm to breathing, and his rhythm used to rock me to sleep like being on a boat with calming waves. And when he stopped it was like a rogue wave woke me up.

Now we both have CPAPs. Can't say it's help our insomnia, BUT when I can sleep I wake up well rested. And he used to live in constant brain fog so bad he couldn't read a paragraph and make it make sense. (Really bad for a guy who liked studying for four hours a night.) Now he reads three parts of the Bible, an article or two about some aspect of the Bible, and e-mails me booklets on stuff I wanted to learn and he found. Not up to four hours yet, but that's a solid hour. He's where most people are when they study.

Oh and one thing that causes sleep apnea -- too much fat around the muscles in the back of the throat. i.e. being overweight. (At our best, we're a little above what we should weight. At our worst, if we could pull out all the extra weight and turn it into a person, the person would be an average woman.) So, it is possible you might not need a CPAP for the rest of your life. Once you lose weight, your muscles might work right again.

As for the insomnia even after having a machine push the air into my lungs every night? Because doctors have tested me and tried everything else, I'm on Ambien. I'm still an insomniac, but it's only about 2 nights a month now. (Wouldn't you love to say that? :D)

Just some ideas from someone with experience in both problems.
