Has anyone ever had an issue they are struggling with and know it's really a choice that they seem to continually make adversely. I have such a struggle. I use to never have issues in this area, but as of late I fall to the same sin over and over.
You know that yucky feeling after you've sinned, I hate it. But why do I keep repeating it. I know the word. I know it's not God's best but this is an issue I've not over come as yet.
Any words of advise?

Try not to be too hard on yourself. Don't beat yourself over the head with it. Ask God to help you in the sin struggle and lean into his love. Think about his love. Celebrate his love in song. Rejoice in your salvation. I will pray for you. Also pray for me as I don't like doing the dishes and need to help out more in the house. That is something I tend to have a time with.

Hi Stacy,

The answer is probably different for each one of us. What we have to find the root of the problem.

I remember when I was younger in the Lord, I had to work when I had a lot of weakness and pain from fibromyalgia. When I was at work I was kind and smiled to customers while checking them out at the grocery store. I was tired when I got home, but I could/would smile and treat my family kindly most of the time.

But in the mornings I dreaded going to work. So I was not very lovable, I would wake up moody. One day the Lord highlighted that sin and I worked through and processed what was going on.

Why was I nice and kind to strangers at the store, but in the mornings I didn't have the smile or the kindness for my family that I had during the day for strangers. I realized that mornings were sometimes more painful and I dreaded facing the day. But after a shower and some breakfast, I seemed to do better.

I began praying every day about my attitude in the morning. I was serious about wanting to be kind and smile in the morning. To put on the new man first thing. :) I think sometimes we wait on God to do everything for us. He empowers me to do whatever is of Him. I needed to accept that truth and act on it. I continued praying and realized after about a month I was doing the thing I had been praying for. I was dying more to my flesh; putting off the old man and putting on the new man.

There are other times I've prayed for God to work on something in me, but I was half-hearted. I wanted to change, but didn't want to do what it took to gain the victory. I guess I just wasn't ready to give up a certain thing.

Over the years I have found that the best way I gain victory is to get my bible out that speaks to the issue I'm struggling with and to read those scriptures and even pray them out loud for my ears to hear God's word. I also sense a connection with God that I'm having fellowship with Him as I give this problem to Him. In this way I'm drawing near to God and He is drawing near to me.

I then am able to resist the devil with the power of God and he must flee. And I thank God for being there with me, for drawing close to me and helping me to resist the enemy.

Sometimes journaling will help me as well. Also talking about it with others so that they can pray for you is helpful. The bible talks about confessing your sins one to another that you may be healed.

I will pray that the Lord will help you as you seek Him whole-heartedly to overcome this sin. God wants you to have the victory, to be an overcomer and He will empower you to be able to say no to whatever it is that's displeasing Him. I think that we all just need to be real with God and share our struggles we have so that we are inviting Him into our struggles.

God bless you, Stacy! :)

Paul knew.
I do what I do not want to do. And what I want to do I do not do. He wrote most of the New Testament and had the same struggles.

That is not a bad idea with the bible verses. I might try writing one or more down.

Romans 7:15
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Apparently Paul stumbled a lot. Maybe it was his thorn in the flesh but God's grace was sufficient to ultimately do what he was meant to do.

Hi Tourist,

Paul was speaking of himself under the Law before Christ when he said that. He was giving his testimony as to what he was going through under the Law and what happened to him when the command came to him and he died and how he found freedom in Christ. Read the first part of chapter 8. It contrasts the believer and the unbeliever. The one under grace and the one under law.

He speaks of having power over the flesh as a new creation in Christ in chapters 6-8.

I'm not saying we don't have struggles, I'm just saying that verse is not a Christian struggling, it's a person under the law without Christ. :)

That's the beauty of the new birth. We're not bound to sin anymore. We can have victory and overcome sin.

I agree with you. Sin here doesn't have power over us. God's grace is there to help combat/defeat the sin.
Yes I'm struggling now so I know that's not what you're saying.
