Hello!

Today (in about two hours, actually) I will be visiting a friend that I've known for a little while now. I've wanted to share the gospel fully with this person pretty much since day one, but I've either been too scared when the opportunity came or something prevented us from actually seeing each other. I love my friend like a brother already, so it pains me to see him following the world...

Today I'm motivated to finally bring up the topic of salvation in Jesus, but I'm very scared that I'll "chicken out" again or the conservation will get diverted to worldly matters instead, like often happens.

Pray that God will give me the opportunity two hours from now and that I will be faithful. Also pray for my friend's protection. He has a dangerous job and will be working today before I see him.

I know God's will is sovereign. So if today isn't His timing I need wisdom to know that, too.

Thanks everyone! I'll return tonight to give an update! :)

Praying. May the Lord bless you with treasures in heaven for your desire to see this friend saved and if he, for some reason, is not receptive today, that the seed you plant grows into a bountiful harvest sometime soon! I pray for your strength, encouragement and wisdom in regard to timing and the right words to say that will have the greatest impact on your friend and that his heart is made new in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to turn his desires away from the world and to the things of God. May your friend be safe today and all the days he does this particular line of work! Amen.

Okay, I'm back!

So here is how it went... We agreed to meet at a certain time. I double checked with my friend to make sure. I arrived at his workplace at the time we agreed, but he was nowhere around. After fifteen minutes of standing around he finally showed up and I could tell he was in a good mood. Other times he's too tired to talk much, but today he was obviously happy to socialize and have conversation.

So we talked about a few things we had planned ahead of time - his new phone, apps he can put on it, etc. And from there, we moved on to talking about his work, his family, and all manner of normal everyday things. It was a really enjoyable and lively conversation, which is somewhat rare for us since we're both tired lots of times.

And... that's what it was. A really enjoyable conversation... Somewhere along the way I completely got distracted from what I really wanted to talk about - the Gospel. Instead I got wrapped up in his own story as he told me about his latest adventures and things he'd done.

At one point I did remember what I had asked you all to pray about, but at that moment he was focusing on something important and it wouldn't have been good to distract him.

In the end, I actually felt okay about it all. I guess it still isn't God's timing ultimately, but I am frustrated that I find it so hard to bring up the topic. In some ways, I hate to make a conversation serious that is so lighthearted and fun... Can anyone relate? :( I know that's a pretty shallow perspective.

Having said all this, here were some answered prayers:

1: My friend was safe during work today and in fact things were going amazingly smoothly. Lots of times when I visit he's having all kinds of issues, but not this time.
2: He was excited to meet and reconnect. He was eager to share about his own life, which is valuable information for later conversations and for sharing the Gospel.
3: I never lost courage. I simply forgot my goal and when I remembered, it was a bad time...
4: He indicated he'd like to meet at a restaurant some time, which is a much better place to converse than at his workplace.

So, as I said, I believe it wasn't God's time today. Yet I still left somewhat encouraged by the answers to prayers I did see and the fact that he wants to meet in a place where he will be less distracted by his work.

Thanks again for the prayers! If we agree on a time to meet at a restaurant, I will be asking again. :)

I can relate to not wanting to turn the conversation over to faith when we are not discussing faith. To me that is random to do that. If you really feel like you need to discuss this with him just say " I have something on my mind that I feel I need to discuss." And then tell him what is going on. You said he works at a dangerous job. I would say the sooner you talk to him about the gospel, the better. You don't know if and when he might get into some sort of accident at work and you could be unable to tell him then. Don't worry about the timing. And since he has a phone and if you have his number, you don't have to wait to see him in person again. Just call him when you can and when he is not working.

Good points, Cherie! I like your idea if beginning with saying I have something important on my mind. I never even thought to go about it that way, but that might be the transition I'm lacking to make it a little more natural. I simply couldn't figure out how to go from "This is a good app. You should try it." to "I worried that you don't actually know Jesus personally."

And, like you said, because of his job I've always felt the urgency, too.
