Ok, I have a problem. I am having a hard time putting away the booze completely. I'm not an alcoholic or anything but once every couple of weeks I will slip and have way too much to drink. It used to be a major problem when I was younger but I still havent completely overcome it. I just ask that people will pray that God will give me the strength to completely overcome it for good. I dont want to drink every couple of weeks, I dont want to drink every couple of months. I just want to put it away for good.

Thanks

Then put it away and stop. It's Jesus or booze.

Well, the only solution to that is to not drink in the first place.
Really, it is. If you , once you have a beer, want more, and then more ... then you will get drunk again.
If you are able to stop BEFORE the first beer, problem solved :) It is easier not to start one the first one, than to not take the 2nd, 3rd etc

My drinking habits used to be much worse back in the day. Its strange because I can go maybe a week or two without drinking but then all of a sudden the craving starts kicking in bad. Plus, couple that with some problems I'm dealing with now which cause me to become depressed it makes it even more tempting.

After rededicating my life back to God, this is one of the bad habits that never completely died.

"For I do not understand my own actions. I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate." There are so many things we cannot do... we are weak, all of us. But the bible also says, "God's power is made perfect in our weakness".

Give it to God... not just the excessive drinking, but the DESIRE to drink, as well as the other things that got you down and made you want to drink in the first place.

It says in the bible, "casting all of your cares upon Him, for He cares for you." So I say a prayer like, "God, you said I could give You all of my cares, and that's what I'm doing right now in Jesus' name. Please take this (fill in the blank) away from me."

And later, when the temptation arises to got snockered, give it to Him again. All of it.

And it will get easier and easier to stay away from booze the longer you keep away from it. "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Hope this helps :)

I think you got the wrong idea about boze. The media and a lot of christians seem to demonize drinking. If you become a full blown alcholoic that means you're most of the time drunk. And you hate staying sober for even a day, then you got a problem. You should probably check yourself into AA. But lets look at the facts here. The bible doesn't say "don't drink". It warms about the pain of a hangover in the book of proverbs. But it doesn't say "don't drink because it's a sin". Evidence of this.... What was Jesus first miracle? ... Well changing the water to wine remember? Also I think it was Paul who says in one of his letters "take some wine for your ill stomach". And studies have shown "a drink" (that means 1) of wine or other each day is actually good for you in many ways, oddly enough. Look if you want to quit I do pray you quit, that's perfectly fine. Maybe not a bad idea if you're worried about it. But I just think a lot of christians demonize drinking when it's in the bible! Dear lord please help this person to stop drinking. Amen.

Father replace the craving for alcohol, with a passion to seek You Lord.
In Jesus Name, Amen

@Canadian36, Paul refered the letter to Timothy who was sick then. The bible goes against drinking for any priest. And to me it does apply to us coz the bible says in Revelation 1:6 that we have been made Priests unto God. Plus even logically it doesn't add up, how do you expect God to talk to you and use you when you are not alright. Paul tells us not to be filled with wine, but the Holy Spirit because the two are opposites. God bless

I went through the same thing. Actually, toward the end of it I started to become afraid that I was addicted to alcohol. Even though I wasn't drinking very much at a time, I was drinking every single day. I like hard liquor, so I would mix a shot or two in with some soda (I don't drink soda otherwise) or juice at the end of the day EVERY day and would get drunk with friends or sometimes even alone on the weekends. I had to lose weight for the Army, and I cut out the drinking for calorie sake. After a couple of weeks, I realized that I felt better in general, and I haven't drank since then. I never had any kind of withdrawal and I didn't crave alcohol and now that I took it out of my life completely, the thought of it makes me sick. I suggest removing it for better health and a better relationship with God.

The temptation to drink is the devil, he realizes what a stronghold he has over you with alcohol. You seem like a smart guy don't allow that idiot to control you. If it were a fleshly person telling you "you are weak, you know you want it! You simply can't resist " would u bow down and let them control you? NO! RESIST THE DEVIL HE WILL FLEE!
