I'm more and more unsafe these days. I never learned to drive, and while i do have plans to I walk and ride the bus everywhere. I feel safer on foot than on the bus. Recently I've had a few scary encounters. I'm a friendly person. I talk to people (not all people), and I only start conversations with women and children. However, sometimes I often get homeless men and people with special needs who start comversations with me. It took a while for me to realize that they do because I'm probably one of the only people whis not afraid to look them in the eye.
Today I had a run in with a homeless man who began telling me how he had spent 40 yrs learning Zen but it hadn't helped him because he was "teetering on the edge of sex-maniac and Puritan". He backed off and turned away, and he kept explaining. Then he tried to cover it up by saying "oh, but I'm a Protestant." Things like these happen to me often. I wear headphones and sun glasses all the times. I dress conservatively. But they happen and they make me nervous.
The other day my pastor swing by to pick me up. Now he was joking, but he said "it's a good thing I picked you up or someone else would have."
