Father God,
I pray that you enable thatguy1985 to pray for himself in new and powerful ways. For the Bible says 'Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray.' (James 5:13). I myself experienced depression for many years, and looked for help from you, and fo from others. Yet a key factor for me was crying out to you in my despair. For all the help and support I received from others, it required me to grapple with you for myself. So, I am asking you, Lord God, to give thatguy1985 supernatural ability to cry to you, to break down before you in floods of tears, to use whatever language he needs to voice what is going on for him to you. I stand with him, as it were lifting up his hands to you as a sign of prayer. I pray that you give him the gift of honesty, real, desperate prayer.
Lord God, I do not know what is behind his depression, but my experience tells me that it is a symptom of deeper troubles, probably emotions, traumas and experiences that he has suppressed and denied. Depression is rarely about the here-and-now. Facing the roots of depression is challenging and intensely painful. So, Father God, I ask that you open thatguy1985 so that he invites you into his pain, and gives you permission to work there. For I know that however horrific the trauma and the pain, you are so much greater. I also know that depression does not normally go away overnight. Help thatguy1985 to face the pain, the anger, the shame - whatever is behind his depression, so that he can give it all to you, and receive your healing. For his life is NOT about what he has done, or the messes he has made, or where he has been, or what has been done to him by others, but his life belongs to YOU, Lord God. His life, in all his brokenness, is to become a demonstration of your power. It not about his wreckage, but about what YOU, Lord God have done for him on the cross.
Father God, I know how very difficult it can be to face up to things that are so deeply painful. So, I ask that you give thatguy1985 the gift of submission to you, to recognise that you are his Lord and Master. His life belongs to you. Enable him to submit to you in simple obedience, as a slave simply obeys his master. I ask that you speak to him, as his Lord, and reveal your grace, mercy, kindness and gentleness. Delight his heart with who you are.
Amen
