I have inattentive ADD so I know the symptoms and a lot of treatments for it. When I started Adderall in my sophomore year of high school, my GPA went from 2.2 to 3.0 and I was a lot happier and well adjusted. I now have a friend who is a high school freshman who has the exact same struggles as me: low motivation, difficulty focusing, inability to concentrate on schoolwork, issues with social skills... the list goes on. I suggested that she tell her parents to take her to possibly be diagnosed and begin treatment. Her parents accused her of lying and making up a disorder to justify her laziness. Frankly, the lack of ADD awareness is infuriating to those who have the disorder and it's really upsetting to know that there is hope for her but she's 4 years too young to get treatment without parental consent.

The worst part is that we both have a form of ADD that is tied to depression and normal medication for depression exacerbates the condition (I'm currently on another medication that treats both and it's been really good for me). So it's not just her school performance that will suffer if she doesn't get treatment. Her depression is just going to get worse. I know this from experience. I was hospitalized a year after going off medication for mine so I know that the consequences are pretty severe. She REALLY needs help.

Please pray that she can receive treatment in some way, either through her parents changing their minds or through some of the natural remedies we've found online. I've never treated my ADD naturally because the Adderall was so effective so I have no idea if it'll work. Also please pray for those out there in her situation and that we get some kind of ADD awareness because we really need it for the good of those who have it and who aren't getting treatment because they don't know they have it. ADD is a disorder that can either clear up in childhood or last well into adulthood and people need to start accepting it as a real disorder.

So yeah, please pray for her and for others in her situation. Thanks!

KateMarie,

I will pray for your friend with her struggles. Having a less-visible affliction myself, I know first-hand the affliction is only compounded by the preconceptions and judgments of those who do not understand.
I will also pray for your friend's family that they seek God's discernment and guidance in ALL things. Needing parental consent for any medical affliction can be tough when one's parents are judgmental.
I will pray for you and others who are, or will be, praying for and supportive of your friend. One of the things the afflicted need is supportive acceptance; thank you for giving her the support she needs.
I will pray for Godly understanding, discernment, and wisdom on the part of those who currently do not understand less-visible afflictions. PLATITUDES, CLICHES, or even worse, OUT-OF-CONTEXT SCRIPTURE QUOTES are all inappropriate.
One question I would like to ask so I know how best to pray for your friend ... is your friend Christian?
If she is, I will pray that she will continue to grow stronger in her faith and be able to praise God even while in the storm of affliction.
If she is not, I will pray for her to have the opportunity to know Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.

Thank you for sharing this prayer request. You are a true friend to her :)

Blessings,

"Doggy" :)

I'll add my amen to your prayer kate, your friend is blessed to have a friend like you and God bless you for being so, may that come back to you 100 fold. And I pray with you that your friend find effective treatment. But I also say, just in friendly reminder, that what works for you may not work for someone else. BUT! As long as God is alive, there is an answer! May God lead your friend - and you - to yours sooner than later.

Have said a prayer for you and your friend.....Have you thought of maybe going to talk to a guidance counselor at school and speak to them about your suspicion of your friend having your condition? Maybe if an adult talked with their parents they might take getting a diagnosis more seriously. Just a thought. God bless you in your empathy with your friends problems and praying for help in this situation.
