Need explanation for a verse in Luke

Luke 11 verses 24- 26. I could do with clarification please. Does this mean a man cleansed of an evil spirit is actually more at risk of much worse?

Was the devil tempting Jesus literally?

I am not sure, it needs reflection.

Was the devil tempting Jesus literally?

Not unbelief. Only a search for truth, to explore and question, as is every person's right.. I have never been one to believe blindly.

Was the devil tempting Jesus literally?

This is a good perspective because fasting concentates the mind and changes perception. Removes obstacles to thought.

Was the devil tempting Jesus literally?

    A good point actually.

Was the devil tempting Jesus literally?

It can yes, but there is no good reason to do that. Apparently Moses neither ate nor drank for 40 days. This is hard to believe. Though I want to believe and think the Bible is the inspired word of God.

Was the devil tempting Jesus literally?

Well, because being transported to a high mountain and to the pinnacle of a temple in Jerusalem cannot be literal. It must be symbolic or visions.

Was the devil tempting Jesus literally?

In Luke Chapter 4, verses 1 - 13. We are told Jesus is taken to a high mountain, also to Jerusalem onto a pinnacle of the temple. Were these visions, through hunger and thirst or are we to believe literal events? It is not stated. On a separate point, 40 days without food is surely impossible...

Where does the Bible tell us sickness is good?

No need for self flagellation, or the irritating people that say sickness is punishment or a blessing. I don't think it is either. It's just bad luck but God helps you cope or heal if you pray. I think it's that simple. If you don't get healed, then you must accept it because God has a reason...

Where does the Bible tell us sickness is good?

I hadn't realised but I do repeat myself a lot, part of getting old I guess! I only began thinking about this matter when I read how some people welcome pain and disease as a learning opportunity almost. They think it is a positive in itself. Well I think that is not right, not in my view. I...

Where does the Bible tell us sickness is good?

I understand that. Pride does come before a fall and the best lessons we learn are through hard times and pain. Arrogance is often humbled through adversity. Yet I am not certain I would thank God for pain and disease. Rather I always pray for strength and comfort to bring me through that.

Where does the Bible tell us sickness is good?

I take it Paul was glad of strength from God, as am I. I always pray and thank God for helping and healing me. Yet I am just not going to ever thank God for an illness or disease. I have read of some people who do that, actually rejoicing in a painful condition that they feel brings them closer...

Where does the Bible tell us sickness is good?

Fair enough. However, I will not be thankful for pain and sickness nor regard them as a blessing. Jesus didn't.

Where does the Bible tell us sickness is good?

Who says sickness is to our benefit? There are Christians who think this, that we ought to be grateful for our afflictions and find in them lessons God is teaching us . In the writings of the Rev JR Miller which overall I like, yet I do not agree with him that sicknesses are blessings. My major...

    Dealing with spiritual attacks

I believe they are demons trying to frighten me. I know the name of Jesus Christ is my protection.

    Dealing with spiritual attacks

I had an attack last night. As I slept, some invisible powerful entity got in bed behind me and I could hear its breath in my ear. It felt chilling, evil and menacing. I immediately focused on crying out the name of Lord Jesus several times to help me. After just a moment it disappeared and I...

Can people tell you are a Christian?

I usually know if someone is a true follower of Christ. They are and should be very different. I hope it shows from me and how I conduct myself. Not in a pious 'holier than thou' sanctimonious manner, never that, I hope. I know preachy people like that and I try never to be as they are. It is in...

How were John the Baptist and Jesus related?

From Luke Chapter 1, verse 56 I see that Mary stayed 3 months with Elizabeth. Which means very likely she stayed for the birth of John the Baptist. I never before realised such details.

How were John the Baptist and Jesus related?

Luke chapter 1 verse 36. If the mothers Elizabeth and Mary were cousins, what relationship were their sons? I've always gotten very confused about such questions,!
