Hi,

Please consider making a forum with a theme regarding politics.

Currently almost all such topics and debates involving politics (which are mostly saturated with American posters) reside in the News Forum.

I would think a Christian Forum would focus solely on Christian news and things which could be of concern to the ENTIRE Christian community and not just Americans.

It's really sad and unfortunate when topics involving incidents of concern (that we as Christians should be looking at and praying together) gets sidelined because of some thread which is accusing Obama or Hilary Clinton of some agenda-driven crime.

I understand the need for nitpicking for some people on these things and hence I suggest a different forum where everyone can solely and openly discuss politics and their hapless representatives.

As a Christian, when I check the news forum I would prefer to see news relevant enough to pray about, from the perspective of someone from a different country.

For eg - persecutions in different countries, disasters and other important events (Like in Nepal). Not just Obama or Hilary.

Also, I would prefer a response from an administrator/moderator/anyone responsible for implementation.

Thanks & Regards

Rachel,
I'm not an administrator, and my opinion is only opinion, but I'm going to offer my opinion anyway because more forums devoted to politics/debate will affect the entire site.

1. There is already a forum for news.
Anyone can post ANY NEWS THEY WISH, and BUMP IT as often as they like.

I think this covers the majority of your concerns.

2. There are already forums for several specific countries, for more specific types of news.

3. If you want to see another country given an independent forum board, I'm sure the admins would consider that.

4. A hefty percentage of people posting about American politics AREN'T EVEN AMERICAN, it's just a topic they like to discuss. American politics seems to be an issue that many people from other countries want to discuss, so we need to let them do that.

(Personally I don't believe U.S. politics are more important that politics elsewhere, and personally I'm not interested in politics at all... I'm just stating some facts about what goes on here.)

5. Please keep in mind that the whole world is interrelated, so any political discussion about ANYTHING could likely be injected with American politics by SOMEBODY... and that injection might even be relevant to the discussion. So ANY political discussion about ANY country might inadvertently end up dealing with American politics anyway (or dealing with anything else for that matter).

6. Since the whole world is interrelated, and we already have a news forum, I would just suggest you post whatever you want in the general News Forum, and then bump it as often as necessary.

Like I said at the start, these are just my opinions.
I don't run anything around here.
: )

How do you perceive the site would be affected?

From a logical perspective it would actually boost the popularity of CC being that politics draws a lot of web traffic and it would cause more users to stumble upon the site.

Having a forum specific to politics makes it more SEO friendly and would surely see a rise in page ranks for CC.

CC would actually gain in worth from this because a site's strength lies on it's community as well as the traffic it generates.

On the points 4,5,6, I point that having a politics forum allows everyone to converge on these topics.

My suggestion was not to create a forum only for American Politics but for a more wider generic approach that opens the doors for everyone.

Also keep in mind that not all of us post topics, some of us just read. ( on the idea of just bumping/creating a thread)

It would be more consistent to have a forum based on a particular and wide encompassing theme like politics like the other sub forums.

I believe a politics forum has been suggested in the past, and turned down.
The person who makes the final decision rarely posts or responds.
New forum ideas are based on perceived needs and rarely from requests posted here.
The most common suggestions i see made are new room/forums yet are the least put in place. Half of the other suggestions are things that exist but people don't know, meaning a small percentage of suggestions made here for the site are viable to even consider. Which is probably why it's quite uncommon to see admin/mod responses.

I'd agree with this suggestion, though I would prefer it just be general politics. I am interested in politics in India. One of the tangents I am keeping my eye out for for instance is President Modi. Last I had seen about him was his hand in helping secure the release of the Christian man from Afghanistan was good, and I am still hoping India government continues to be more accepting of Christians.

Since most the people here are Americans it is inevitable US political issues are going to get posted, especially with the political season underway. However, I think the solution is simply to just post non-US news anyways. Take for example how sir royascott keeps us updated on BBC news or how sir levi has kept us informed on news from India and Nepal. Personally, I would like to see more news from abroad. One of the big draws to CC is that you all give us access to news and issues that normally we would never hear. I have read and followed a lot of the topics our India brothers and sisters have posted, even if I don't comment on them, and am always glad to see or hear more of it.
