Hello!
I know that there's nothing we can do concerning about our posts showing up in Google search results. As someone who used to have an ex stalk me for over 5 years, I do still tend to think about methods to maintain privacy. (He was a computer sciences major, so I had to be cautious).
I get that someone could place "Called4Christ" in quotes in Google and find all my posts. However, they'd need to determine that "Called4Christ" was who they were looking for in the first place..

The easiest way to do that is forum history to glean information. So, it's kind of circular. If you can't figure out the user name of the person you're looking for, you can't determine what user name to put in quotes in Google search to access all their stuff.

Anyway, what about something like this:

Thoughts?

I think in order for them to do that it would still require them to pull old posts out of Google and other searches as well. So I don't see that happening. They could stop people from finding posts in Google, but it's considered part of the advertising of the site. So making old posts only visible to registered users would limit what's available to be found.
Part of. Ring active on the Internet is the risks you take when putting yourself out there. Just like when you go online you accept that you can be hacked, viruses, etc.... Sure, you can take precap it you can't eliminate the risk all together. Part of the responsibility falls in the individuals lap to make right choices and use caution.

I understand that.
I mean basically controlling access to the link in our Chat Profiles that allows other users to browse our forum post history

(edit): The second image should probably read: "In theory, only page visitors who meet the criteria would be able to access the tab and this part of the profile. ("Called4Christ" button) . If I'm still misunderstanding what you've said, perhaps it could simply be a "from here on out" sort of thing.

The all they have to do is go on google and search for your name there. So the only way to achieve what you're asking for is to request the site that not make the site searchable through Google, which they are not going to do.
This is where it falls on the individual to take responsibility for what they choose to post.

Sure. You're right in that nothing could stop anyone from finding all posts by a given user if they happen to know their username. But what if they didn't know the username? If James (not real name), for example, knew my username was Called4Christ, there's nothing that could stop him from typing that into google and pulling up all the results. However, if James doesn't know my username, he's at a loss. He might be able to browse the forums and find a post that sounds like me. Yet, he's not sure. So he goes to my profile, but alas! There's no link provided by the site.

I completely agree that we must use discretion when posting. That it is our responsibility to make sure we don't post information that reveals identity. However, there are patterns of speech, mannerisms, etc, that also hint at our personality. Combine that with a post that says someone you loved passed away recently (dated June 2010), another that says the weather is terribly hot/cold/mild/humid (hint at geographical location)...

Honestly, I'm not worried about "James". He hasn't been a problem for a long time. Just a thought. If limiting access to the link tab in the profile isn't possible, it isn't possible, and that's okay.

If the availability of the tab itself ("My username") on the Chat Profile, is cemented in stone, that's fine. No big deal.

So then he creates an account and now has access to all those things you tried to hide.
