There is an aspect to our faith that involves warfare.

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
(2Co 10:4-5)

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
(Eph 6:11-17)

Either set up a Room where it is clearly understood that all out debate is fine (provided it doesn't get personal) or turn BDF into such a room.

There is no where to go presently where you don't get hounded by the Rodney Kings or the Donovans, pleading for such silliness as "We're here to love", "Christians aren't supposed to be contentious", "Why can't we all get along?".

There are plenty of Rooms one can go to have a holy huddle and get healing hugs, but there is a time and a place to take off the gloves and do 'warfare'. We have plenty of cults and aberrant teachings that need confronting (mine not excluded) and need a place where such debate/discussions can go unhindered by the "Peace at all cost" types.

This is a very interesting idea. I wonder how a moderator would handle it though or how many moderators have to be present all the time.

Considering that ANY mods are rarely online anyway, much less all at the same time, I don't think this idea would work because it WOULD have to be moderated and the mods are only on here when they have free time which isn't very often..

That's true. Such a room would require a mod (or mods) with so much patience... And good health.

Such things are better done face to face
people are way too "brave" (read : rude) online

Ah *lightbulb moment* this specific room should have multi-camera enabled. Like a video conference. That will lessen the strife.

Not sure why it would need any more moderators than BDF, since only personal attacks would be taboo.
The Rodney Kings wouldn't need moderating since the aims of the room was made clear and their whining could simply be ignored.

Jesus was very contentious when needed but that did not weaken His love.

Right, speaking the truth in love is key and many take some truth as unloving.

I think a reminder of who we are fighting against would be good here....

That isn't the purpose. It is to have unhindered healthy debate. Those with thin skin would know better than to step in.
It may even ease some of the tensions in the other rooms.

I'm for it, despite the "Rodney King" manure. It gives room for the righteous to do their thing, and then the BDF can truly become the Bible Discussion Forum again.

I don't even care if the mods choose to mod more often or not. Half the not-personal-attacks are personal attacks anyway, so let those out for a good fight enter.

One small change though. I'd title it the No-Holds-Bar-Wrestling Room.

This resolves the eternal debate on what the BDF is about and the "but how do we stop people from 'debating'?" go-to excuse given in the BDF for the eternal freedom of letting arguers take over every thread to argue.

Given crossnote is on the side of debate/arguing, and I'm on the side of fellowship/questions, that the two of us can agree on this one -- doesn't that say this is a great idea?

To me it's like when we were little. Our parents understood four kids in the house would cause contention and the furniture couldn't withstand it, so they kicked us out into the backyard and let us at it. Seems like this room is the backyard. If you're not looking for a fight, don't enter into the backyard. Meanwhile, the furniture is safe. :)

God bless you for being the peacemaker, but cookies haven't changed it yet. Let's let boys be boys. (Gender neutral, considering I was one of "the boys" back when my parents said that. lol)
