I think a study guide geared towards helping those new to the family would be helpful. I am one of them that needs training in being a disciple for Him. Also a mentor program would be good too I think. If this has already been suggested I apologize.

This is a chat site, not a school. :) As for how to be a disciple of God, read your bible, pray, and do what Jesus did: love others and treat them right. :)

Looking at your profile info, I see that you claim to be new to the faith. My highest recommendation to you would be that you seek out a good church in your area that would fill the need for both teaching and mentoring. Many churches (not all) have programs specific to new believers.

I like Blue Ladybug's answer because she is challenging you to find the answers yourself. We all need some guidance from our fellow human beings, I am sure, and I am sure the Lord sometimes uses one person to teach another person a lesson. Still, we mustn't grow dependent on other people for our knowledge. No one is perfect, and if you blindly follow another person, you will get into the same trouble that person got in to.

And I like Oncefallen's suggestion you find yourself a church. Church's are not perfect but there you will find an atmosphere, hopefully, conducive to learning about the Lord.

It is good that you want to learn. It takes time but you will be well rewarded.

May I ask how you became saved? I mean did you someone lead you into prayer, or were you watching some sort of program and you did this yourself?

When I was young I thought I had accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior. However, after careful thought I didn't I just said the words but didn't mean them I did it to escape the bible thumping zealots that would scream condemnation and I was going to Hell again I was around 5 to 8 at that time. When I would do sonething wrong my parents would say. You go to church you should know better. Christians don't do that. Stop living in sin and the like. I wanted to feel wanted and fit in so I said I accepted Jesus one day after church to get everyone off my back. I know that sounds terrible but I hated everyone yelling condemnation at me. I stopped doing bad things and tried to be morally upstanding. Now over the years living this lie so long I started to believe that I really was saved. However, last week I was surfing the web on You Tube. Out of nowhere a video involving knowing if you are saved popped into my recommendation list. I watched it out of curiosity I knew I was saved so it doesn't apply to me. While I was watching it I began to notice how wrong I was after over 20 years worth of lies I thought I truly had been saved but I was living like the devil and did not feel God or want him. I said oh I just back slid a bit. Yet, when you look at what you are doing I'm pretty sure no Christian would think about changing sides because of how unfair God is treating you and everyone else who does far worse things than you have everything when you have nothing you tend to think maybe I'm not saved. What I did I immediately searched for a 24/7 chat line for Christians. I found groundwire. With it I got in touch with Dennis he typed the sinners prayer and I said it aloud I felt an instant difference like energy coursing through me. I ask for help and guidance because I grew up in church and remember vaguely some things that had been gone over throughout the years. Instead of wading around aimlessly and blind I figured it would help to have people point me to the right scriptures and other tips that have helped them. I come from a terrible background and don't want to go back to that lifestyle so I am researching everything asking for advice praying and listening to worship music you are what you spend time with. I spend almost all my time with God. I love him that much I try to eliminate all temptation and flee from the ones that get up to me.

Jesus set that up 2,000 years ago. They are called "Churches."
