I wish this site had a built in feature that when a user quotes and responds to your posts you are then notified of this and given a link to said response. Just like when people give you likes and you can then go to your recent likes and easily find the post, I think it would be a great asset to the community for communication to be able to respond in a timely manner if we were informed that we were quoted and replied to. Of course, then given the link to the response.

I am not sure how hard it would be to make this a feature, but it would be a great benefit to all.

This has been suggested many times for years. I believe the site simply lacks the ability to do so.

Yes; from what I understand this is like a 'pre-fabbed' site with limited ability to modify. But I've often thought the same thing, getting notice of being quoted would be nice. I once offered to pay to have the 'post reply' button separated from the others but that wasn't feasible.

Is it really a technical difficulty? I know that RoboOp is really busy and so this probably wasn't something high priority for him, but maybe in this new year he can make time for it? Now, if it is a technical issue thats rather disappointing. It could really make the experience of CC that much smoother.

I notice each post has a # next to it that when right clicked can give you a link to that exact post, directing people to it instead of the first response on that page number. Maybe that can be utilized with this suggestion. When a person quotes you it can be treated like a share on Facebook. Someone who knows about coding should be able to resolve this and make it a thing, I would think.

I am trying to think of suggestions that can work for this like possibly sending an email to our inbox when we have been quoted instead of just a notification in the notification drop box. Maybe a new "like" feature, but its more like an "inquiry" feature that when responding to someone it informs you that you've received an inquiry. It could be a feature like tagging on FB and you tag the person you're responding to and it informs them in their notifications that they have been mentioned (in this case, quoted).

That might be the best option, the tagging feature.

I could... :D  There is no doubt about it... ;) ( 'automation' programming is my 'specialty' )

"Have patience..."

He is working on something that should be an even greater overall improvement for the site.

This host does have restrictions. Some requests people make are simply not able to be done due to the host limitations. As stated above, this is a pre-fabbed site, and becomes of that some things cannot be done.
As to whether this specific request is doable, I can't say. I 'think' I heard them say it was not, though I'm not positive if this was the topic. It's in an older thread. But I have seen a lot if people assume things should be easy to do on here, without knowing what actually is and isn't doable. Without knowing the restrictions then assuming it is something that can be done is fruitless.

We have thread subscriptions...not the same as telling you that you have been quoted. However if you only go on a few threads it will show up when folks respond to that thread.

My method is to go to my settings and see which threads I'm subscribed to have new posts. Then I bring up those threads and search (Control-F) my screen name. If there are any hits, I hold my breath, hoping no one yelled at me.

Yes - there are things that can "get in the way" of doing a "good and proper" job of it.

By saying what I said in the quote above, I did not mean that it was simple ( i.e. - "nothing to it" ); I meant that I believed it could be accomplished.

How difficult / involved it might be is another question / issue.

we're not 'techie' at, but when we had to change our user name and add and 'e', our
e-mail would tell us of every new post posted, and I went in to the site pulled-up the a
'opinion' part and did 'something'?:)
so every now and then we get an e-mail informing us of a 'new-post' but, thankfully not
each and every post now...it just must be 'different glitches' for different puters/...

ressurection33,
I would definitely not yell at you (and especially not you- seeing that you are an elder), but it would be nice and appreciated if you at least responded to my last question concerning your quotes a couple weeks back in a different post Did Jesus Create All Things At His Father's Command?

That way I would at least know that you saw my response? It's response #82 in the thread.

Response & Timing, which is by a stretch..... technically and similarly related to the topic of this thread while being amusingly related to your response in this thread below.

It is a tremendously long post. Can't you summarize it?

The problem with using the numbers of the post, is that sometimes the numbers change. I know if a post is deleted, it can change, but I have also seen it mysteriously change. Although not lately, I admit.

Maybe it needs to be something where we can link a response to their name. So if we are quoting someone and we want them to know, we could highlight the name, and the person would get a notification.

I didn't realize we could unsubscribe from threads. I literally never go to that page, but sometimes I stumble across it in my profile. I prefer to just go back to the threads I know I was reading. Another thing is when someone checks "like" I follow the link back to my post, especially if it is a recent one. Then I continue to follow the thread. Sometimes that turns up a quote, and sometimes just other interesting information.
