Maybe we all need to prayer for wisdom that we will learn to
moderate ourselves.
Yes sister I agree prayer helps . . I would also suggest when we post that we imagine that our response is given to a person sitting just across the table from us ,and not some words we see on a screen.
Blessings

The best mod for bible discussion forum is to never ever go there unless you wish to learn nothing except some Christians can be intolerable to communicate with lol.

hmm.. I guess I wouldn't make a good mod for it then because I always go there expecting to learn something but then again I tend to see everything with the glass half full

I searched to see if this had been discussed anywhere on CC, and came up with nothing. But if I missed it, somehow, could a mod just close this thread. I hate repeated threads!

I was just thinking and reading through some posts. Basically, the BDF does not have a lot of mods in it. Since it is the biggest forum on CC, I have to think perhaps it is time to pick and add some new ones? I know the job is huge, and thankless.

And I do thank Oncefallen and CS1 who seem to get stuck with the job! But wouldn't it help if there was at least one or two more mods? A few have quit since I joined, and from what I have seen, they were not replaced.

And yes, I am sure picking a mod could be a really difficult task, in the BDF. And no, I certainly do not want to go to an overmoderated BDF. That would be the other end of the extremes. But just a head or two more to pop in, and calm down discussions, sort through all the angry reports, and on occasion, if warrented, ban someone or close a thread.

Any volunteers? Just joking! Who thinks this might be a good idea?
I've been asking for that since I came aboard here back in December but I think there are other priorities that the ownership has and moderating does not seem to be one of them right now. Although I've been told that one of the reasons is that they don't have enough volunteers I also read something about how they don't accept moderators volunteering so that seems to be counterintuitive if you ask me. I guess we just all have to learn to wear our big boy or big girl pants and act all grown up.
My opinion is that there are not enough moderators on this site for any of the sections but especially the BDF. The issue also is that there are no real solid Terms of Service (ToS) here so you can't really moderate when there are no real rules of engagement.
The best thing to do is PM RoboOp and give him your suggestions and input. Seems Chat is the primary focus of this site and not forums.

There are several mods. Problem is, they all stay in the chat rooms. I've asked a few before if they have such and such power, and their reply is, "ummm, I don't know." So obviously Robo or somebody needs to explain to these newer mods, just exactly what their powers are, how they work, and where they work. How can they do their job properly when they don't even fully know what their powers are?

Well, when you sign up you have to agree to this..... Rules - Christian Chat Rooms & Forums

So not getting why you say there's no real ToS.

And obviously you have received wrong information about 'volunteers'. Anyone who asks to become a mod is refused. But not everyone who is offered the position says yes.
To be granted the position is going to require having some obvious requirements. Having a solid reputation as being calm and balanced and fair without your feathers getting easily ruffled. Being at least moderately tech savvy. being some of the most obvious. Eliminate people who don't qualify, people who ask to be mods, people who qualify but have no interest and qualify but don't have the time, how many people are left?

Also, as i stated in a previous post in this thread, the official stance is the moderation on this site is at a level the site owner finds acceptable after nearly 20 years of running this site. Increasing moderation doesn't stop complaints, it just changes the complaints and the complainers. And since the ones complaining now generate less overall traffic on the site than the ones being complained about, it's easy to see which group will get favored.

Also as stated already, they are all volunteers with no schedule, no pay and no expectation on how often or how long they log in. It is 100% a use of a mods personal time to choose to moderate on this site. So if they work all day, deal with family coming home, then they come here and have to babysit.
The reason the chats are 'favored' is because the mods often prefer being in chat and are not forum users. This goes back to they are here as users on their personal time that agree to deal with things as they arise, but are otherwise here to chat, like anyone else. It's a bit difficult to make demands of people using their free time to be a babysitter to do specific things.

People always say 'message RoboOp', then complain when he doesn't respond, or doesn't respond quick enough. At least part of the point of the suggestions forum was to get people to Stop PMing Robo with suggestions and complaints. Encouraging everyone to message the singular person in charge with their every gripe and suggestion is only going to continue discouraging getting answers or responses because when would he have any time left? PMing admins or Robo should only be limited to specific cases of difficulty. Such as technical problems with the site that have not be able to be resolved in the Tech forums first. We have a suggestions forum, tech forum and report buttons for a reason.

Rules are not the same as Terms of Service and I think if you read the rules carefully you'll find most of them are in regards to the chat rooms.

There's nothing wrong with the information I received from the rules and reiterated in my post so I'm not really sure what you're talking about? Every other site I've ever been on or am on, relies on volunteers. FYI, I used to be a mod on a big forum but found it was not for me. I still believe moderation is required on any discussion forum.

Not what I was told when I first came on this site by RoboOp, and how is it you speak for this site having no official designation?

Most people that are experienced on forums understand that moderators are volunteers but you're wrong about there being no schedule and no expectation of performance. Being a moderator is not being a babysitter and the fact that you don't seem to differentiate between the two says a lot about your apparent disdain for this type of ministry.

From where I'm sitting it doesn't appear like you really know what's going on but are just forming opinions. He responded in what I thought was a very timely manner the few times I sent him a PM. As your name is clearly not on the list of admins or moderators I suggest you let RoboOp speak on behalf of the site and stop acting like you have the power to do so.
