Exclamation New User Policy - including app users

    Dear all,

Lately I have noticed the amount of users of this great Christian Chat community has grown. In great deal that is due to the app that is available. It is great that with the app, more people around the world can join the chat and forums.

Sadly, it has a downfall too. Lately the amount of disturbing messages in chat, both written and spoken out, has increased a lot. That also includes the messages on chat in the 'private message' boxes. Personally, I had to deal with this more than 20 times this week alone and on 5 occasions I have asked a moderator to help out. I know from my CC friends and family they had similar kind of issues. On a daily base, not just once, but sometimes more than twice per hour. Mostly our female users are attacked, I can't say it otherwise.

I have come to the conclusion that these problems for more than 95% are caused by users of the app.

In the past we also had to deal with people register on the website and then causing trouble in chat. We did -kind of- fixed that with disable PM for new users.

We need to implement something like that; and rather sooner than later. Not only for the users, but also for the moderators that must be running on overtime with all this going on.

Therefor I suggest we put a new policy in place, that I would like to call the NEW USER POLICY.

    ===

    NEW USER POLICY

    Initial phase
    1. To have access to the forums or the chat, one must register as user.
    2. During the first 28 days of their membership started, new users can only enter the LOUNGE room in chat.
    3. During the first 28 days of their membership started, new users can not send private messages in chat.
    4. During the first 7 days of their membership started, new users can not use the ChristianChat mail.
    5. During the first 7 days of their membership started, new users can only view the forums.

    Welcoming phase
    6. After 28 days of their membership started, new users can enter the following rooms on chat: LOUNGE, BIBLESTUDY and PRAYER.
    7. After 7 days of their membership started, new users can use the ChristianChat mail.
    8. After 7 days of their membership started, new users must first introduce themselves in the NEW MEMBERS forum before they can start new topics or respond to topics in other forums.

    Becoming part of the community
    9. After 28 days of their membership started, new users can buy a subscription package which allows them to use all the chatrooms and/or make use of private messages in chat and or show images in chat and/or be allowed to be on the mic queue (depending on the package choosen).

    Part of the community
    10. After 3 months of their membership started, new users can use all functions, except for the show images in chat and/or be allowed to be on the mic queue which will remain subscription package features only.

NO ONE is gonna join if they can't access all the rooms for an entire month. :/ They'd be limited to the lounge or forums, two places that they may not want to be..

Besides, new users expect to be able to access most of the features right away. Waiting a month is just ridiculous. Many would probably just delete their accounts.

I know I joined because I needed Christians to talk to and not in a month or a week. I needed it then. I searched over 15 sites before signing up for this one because I needed somewhere where people would actually talk to me. If I can't talk to people in here for a month when joining then I won't join

This seems way too strict to me. In my opinion, what would solve a lot of these "troll problems" is requiring a membership to be able to access through the app, just as it is required to access on the computer.

Also, while we're at it.. how about restricting guest users as well. I have never understood the point of non-members being able to listen in on conversations they aren't even taking part in.

The point of being a guest user is so that people can preview this site before they join. That's what I did..

No one would stay on the site if it took so long to have access to anything. That's the problem with lots of restrictions on new users, it may block trolls more, but it also discourages people who come here just to chat. Which leads to a decline in new, active members. Its actially a detriment to the site to do this, especially with these excessive timelines you suggested.

You have been a member almost 3 years and have only written 8 posts? In this site there are two basic types, the chat peeps and the forum peeps. It is hard to take a member seriously who's been here 3 years and is basically a ghost. The only part of your OP that makes any sense is the heading "Becoming part of the community". Perhaps you might consider this before trying to dictate how the site should be run.

The amount of people introducing themselves in the New Members forum has declined drastically from the old days, leaving me to believe this site is not growing. It might be shrinking. That is not good. The rules you are suggesting would likely cause people to stop joining all together. Who is going to wait a week or a month to say something they are dying to say at this very moment? There are other Christian sites they can join.

If people are here for bible study or prayer, limiting them to the lounge isn't really beneficial, and I don't think anyone should be required to post in the New Members forum. It also seems like bad business to prevent people from buying a subscription for a whole month. Restrictions on basic features of a site tend to drive people away, not bring them in.

We have the ability to block users and report them to robo op... unfortunately there should be some way to block the user from creating a new account by identifying their email address or something...

There is. The first ban is just a registered email ban. The second ban, if needed, is an IP address ban. This prevents most people from creating new accounts. But there are some that can still get around that as well.
