Thread: Bible Discussion section too big

Default Bible Discussion section too big

I recently posted a thread about Joshua, and not one person replied.

I think that part of the problem is that the Bible Discussion section of the site is huge, with many people posting.

If no one replies to my new thread in the first twelve hours or so, then it will probably become buried on the second page, and forgotten about.

A lot of the threads in the Bible Discussion section are ones I would put in another section - maybe an apologetics section.

Maybe the Bible Discussion section could be split into two or more sections - nature of God, Bible history, and so on.

    Regards, Alnmouth.

I just found it.. 44 views. It was seen, had its turn. No one was interested..

These folks pool in certain topics.

Post in it again and bring it to the front page if it's bothering you.

Yeah. I have always thought they should just put the LAST response on "Latest Activity" tab. This way you won't have a whole page of only ONE thread showing. You could just click on the last response and read up. Maybe the front page could be programmed to not have the same thread appear on page 1.

I almost always just hit the latest activity tab when I come on.

The forums are all the same size. That said, a majority of the posters reside in the BDF, more so than any other forum. So what if no one replied? You have to remember that everyone here has different time zones, they may not have interest in that subject, etc.. No one is required to reply on any thread. They'll do it if and when they want to..

If you had 44 "views", then it was seen and likely read by lots of people... they probably just had no particular interest in the subject. Or, perhaps you didn't compose it with enough leeway for them to feel they wanted to reply to it.

If a person basically only makes a statement, or simply gives their opinion about something, I often just ignore it.

maybe the OP didn't give many openings to turn it into a KJV-only, faith/works, eschatology or flat-earth argument

Well you asked if you made any mistakes. if the people who viewed it saw you made no mistakes you most likely wont get any replies. Generally people make threads asking for peoples perspective whether it be for example Hell, The Great Tribulation, Rapture etc. Those have a range of perspectives people dont mind sharing. If you do make another thread about Joshua perhaps it can be in a manner of asking a specific question or perspective of others. God bless

New forum section suggestions are among the least used. The limited sections in the forums are purposeful.
The problem, though, is not the size of the BDF, but rather some topics don't get people's attention. Even in slower, smaller areas of the site some threads get zero responses.

I long for different topics in BDF and yours qualified, so, of course I read it, (and the other one.) I've just never studied Joshua to add to it.

What's happening in BDF has nothing to do with length. If you look at any one of the forums, they're all very long. It's more a matter of how it's being used. And in large part it's being used as a place to argue. Not discuss. Not learn. And it's working. (Financially speaking, it seems to be the best way to keep this site.)

If you try the same thing on Miscellaneous, there's a longer time for people to see it. But, you also wanted to learn all about Joshua. Most people end up particularly interested in a few people in the Bible. Considering how many lives were written about, the odds of it being the same people are slim.

I know. That really doesn't fix the problem, but at least you heard from someone who did read it.

As I have said at least six times in the past, it is absolutely silly to be concerned what particular "room" of the CC Forum a post is placed in. I have noticed that all of you manage to find all of them quite handily..... or else you wouldn't be commenting on them.

Personally, I doubt I have ever once searched for a post in any particular forum "room". (Unless someone told me to go look under a certain "room") I find all posts under one heading, "NEW POSTS", and I never miss anything, no matter where it is posted.

Things are separated so people can focus on the areas if preference. Not sure why this seems so problematic for you that you have to continually complain about it. It's only the same way every other forum on the internet works.

And you are not the standard for everyone. Just because things work a way for you does not mean everyone else thinks, understands or reasons how you do.
Mostly your comments are short, also, so it's easy to catch more. Not everyone who posts can write them in a few seconds.
It takes quite a bit of self importance to think if a way works for you then any other way is silly. Again, you are not the standard.

Alnmouth - this is called "bumping" a thread.

Just bump the thread occasionally. ( not too often )

I guess that not many thought it was an interesting OP to comment on. Some threads catch on, some tank, that's the way it goes.
