    Default Advice please about preachers.

    Hi all

I have just started reading the OT and finished Genesis today, but I am looking for a good preacher online I can watch who takes us through the books...I have seen a few but so many comments are made against them saying they are wolves etc, I just do not know who I can trust to help me in my study, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me someone who is trust worthy, I have been walking with our Lord for just over two years, so reading the OT is very new to me, and I do not want to fall into someone who preaches lies, I just want to take precaution, I hope someone can help me and thank you......xox...

For preaching that strictly goes through the books, you can seldom go wrong with anyone in Calvary Chapel. Not my cup of tea, but they do stick to the books, going verse-by-verse through them.

Just an idea but have you thought of reading the bible in chronological order.
If you are into the OT it’s a good way to go through it. Chronological order also
breaks down all the verses so you may get a reading in the OT coupled together with
a verse in the NT where the prophesy was fulfilled, or several creation verses spread
across the bible are grouped together.

I found it fascinating to see how everything linked together and it helped a lot with
putting all the different OT passages in the correct order of events. All those stories
about the kings, prophets and wars make more sense in their correct date order.

I never realised for example that Job is one of the oldest books in the bible and that
people would have had great grandparents/great great grand parents etc within living
memory of the flood, probably with the story of the flood in the back ground of people’s
minds and influencing the way they thought. It made the story of Job all the more relevant
    and interesting to know that.

There are a lot of chronological reading plans on line. I used a hardback Holmans
    chronological bible.

I have to say I really enjoy reading the OT with all those dramatic tales.

The purest form of learning is through yourself, although it may not be the fastest, just the purest. Better for you to make up your own mind about something, than someone influencing how it is made up 'before' you have experienced it through yourself first. And then if there is anything you are stuck on, or want to understand better, then you can research it, get different points of view, to again make up your own mind.

One of my favourite parts of the Bible is this part, which talks about false teachers. And I believe they are just about everywhere. And they are all against 'the other' point of view. But it really is about love, if you cannot teach love over your intellectual righteousness, what's the point? I know you get my point, because you have a humble spirit.

If you are looking for good preachers, look for good hearted people, it is as simple as that.

Stay On In Ephesus To Turn Certain “Law-Teachers” From Worthless Talk To Love

3 Just as I urged you to stay-on in Ephesus while I was proceeding to Macedonia, do so in order that you might command[a] certain ones not to be teaching-different-doctrines, 4 nor paying-attention-to myths[b] and endless genealogies, which cause speculations rather than a stewardship[c] of [d] God, which is by[e] faith. 5 But the tachlis (purpose) of the gzeira [1:3] is ahavah (love) out of a lev tahor (pure heart) and a clear matzpun (conscience) and emunah (faith) without tzevi’ut (hypocrisy). 6 Some people [1:3] have missed the mark and deviated from these things to hevel (vanity), to divrei havohu (words of emptiness), 7 wanting to be Law-teachers, not understanding either the things which they are saying or about what things they are speaking-confidently.

You can look up chronological reading plans on line. This for example.

Or you can buy bibles which are set out in chronological order instead of the
regular way like these but I’m sure there will also be regular book shops
    too which sell them.

Ive always found it beneficial to read and form my own thoughts too.

Well maybe I'm stubborn but I don't particularly get on well with being preached to. In a sermon, I am always keeping my mind straight rather than blindly listening. I account and observe what is said, and most often I find many falsities. One of the main falsities is more talk about such things like sin, compared to love.

I'm very big on love, and sensitive to lack of it. That was just my experience growing up. But I think it is quite a unique sensitivity, which I observe very little in others, as in I really am passionate about the love problems in the world, in religion, in religion vs religion.

If I could rewrite government, and all religions (which are and have been a part of government at some point), I would make a new Bible, with less grotesque sex and violence in it (really, is it required? think about it). But it would say something like; If you want to live, love your neighbour and love yourself and love God as God always loves you. But if you want to die, judge your neighbour, judge yourself, and judge God as the God 'you create' judges you. It's your free will, what will you choose? Don't worry that's just a quick draft haha

All you need is a list on a piece of paper to go by, and it won't cost you a penny.

As for "REAL" reading, look into a version called "The FLAT Bible." I got it free, online.

Hi Rosemary. Here is one of the Pastors I've listened to. He does a verse by verse study.

Not telling anyone what to do, but if you are going to follow after Chuck, you might be well served to do a little research on him first. As they say, "A word to the wise is sufficient."

I'm more a reader than a listening. (Easier to go back and reread when I need to understand than to rewind.) So, going with esword too. But for listening about different books in the Bible, (not all of them, but a few of them), here's a link to old sermons. Just a heads up, since they are sermon series, you'll want to click on the book you'd like to study, and then scroll down the next page, since last-is-first.
