I know some people enjoy friendly debate, and others despise it. Perhaps in the chat rooms there could be a debate room, so that if there is a debate, people can take it there and not disturb the ones in the main room (usually lounge) who don't want to debate. Obviously, keeping it friendly and not name-calling is important, but among the "usual suspects," it seems we are almost always able to do that. We're a pretty friendly bunch, and even on the most hot-topic subjects, we respect and love each other.

Anyway, I want to repeat what I say in the chats, that the mods are amazing, volunteering their time, and I know it ain't easy. Thank you!

I'm not surprised that you would suggest this. :p Actually from what I understand there was a debate room here years ago. I'm sure it was removed because of debates that turned into heated arguments, I've seen that happen plenty in both the lounge and BS.

People like to debate in the lounge because they have the largest captive audience. I can't think that to many of the debaters are going to go to a private room because for the most part they are just trying to machine gun down the crowd with their opinions. Not actually talk about anything. At least it seems to be that way.

If people are saying things because they want a "captive audience" then what they are doing is not debate, but argument. Debate means you welcome alternative views and want to hear what others say. What you are describing is not debate. I'm talking about the polite and open exchange of views.
