I would find it SO helpful if the time available for editing post was changed from 5 minutes to at least like 7 or 8...maybe even 10??? I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who thinks of something else they wish they had added every time shortly after posting...but it happens to me alot. I understand the need to limit the time...but 5 just isn't enough time for slow pokes like me!

Also.. I would really like a way to acknowledge I agree with a post ...or to give a kudos to someone who posted something unique... something like the "like" button on facebook maybe? I know we have the REP button but that seems so reserved to apply to the poster more than a specific post, at least in the way it is being used. So a "like" button or maybe a thumbs up or something would be handy.

Thanks for listening!

Count your blessings. The edit time used to be 2 minutes. It took a while for me and another person to talk one of the administrators into making it 5 minutes. :p

I think the 'like' button would be cool.

* Add the LIKE BUTTON idea to the suggestions forum

* EDIT your posts in a NOTEPAD File first, or walk away before you hit the SUBMIT REPLY
button and take a break. You can always annotate if not edit in your next post ...

Why is there an editing time limit to begin with? This is the first forum site I've been to that has it.

I'm not sure. I hadn't seen it before either. In some ways it does make sense to have one, but I can't see where the activity on any given thread is ever so intense that allowing a workable time to add thoughts to a thread would be a hindrance of any kind to the good flow of communication. In fact, I would think it would add to it rather than take away.

I know the obvious answer...is edit your posts before you post. I do that. But 9 times out of 10, I still realize after I posted that ... I could have (or should have) communicated what I meant in a better way or that maybe it sounds sharper than I intended... or maybe I should have added x to it.
And EVERY time, I get that 5 minute error...lol!

Me too. I edit as best i can and then for some reason I always think of something I wanted to add or say in a different way after I hit 'submit' and I have to race against the timer to change it. If I miss the time limit I just add another post, so I don't get what they are gaining with this time limit.

If you have the time planned, you could open your WordPad or your system's counterpart, compose your writing, then edit it. If you are not certain, you could wait longer, reread and re-edit.

Copy and paste it into the appropriate window. Now, I say this, but most times I just don't do it, hmmm!?

The edit time is a set time limit (5 minutes) after a post is posted in which that person can go back and change things/add to/take away with what was initially typed. It's mainly used to correct typos, grammar, syntax, and the likes.

I understand why a person would want to go back in and change things; what I don't understand is the need or the benefit of limiting the time to do it to only 5 minutes. I say this with all respect for the person(s) who have to make these kinds of decisions for the benefit of everyone on this board; as my experience with such matters is limited and so I may not understand the need. I am saying only that the 5 minute limit... from my limited perspective.... seems to be more of a hindance than a help??

From what I read before, the limit was set so that a person couldn't say something (something that would go against the rules) and go back and change it to something else before a mod could get to it and read it.

When someone hits the REP button to report a post, a copy should automatically be sent to the mods, and this copy is not editable either by the OP or the person reporting. At least that is how I understand it to work, but I may be wrong.
