Okay so just recently there was an incident in the chat where someone put up...ummm...links with vulgar content. So that made me think...could RoboOp give a feature to mods where you could clear the chat content for everyone so that way people don't click on it before it's too late? Or just be able to hide individual messages? Like, the mods have a "hide" feature beside each IM so they can click on that message, and then have the content be replaced by "This content has been hidden"? There was nothing that could have prevented what happened in the chat this morning and the CCStaff handled things very well...but if that feature could be put up just so that way people can't click on links like that...because even though that person got banned, their content is still there. =\ I hope you all have made sense out of this and agree. Because I want this chat to be as enjoyable and safe as it can be.

I don't think there is any preemptive measure that can be implemented to screen or prevent links in the main chat. My only suggestion here would be to disable HTML, so that when somebody pastes an address in the chat, it won't come up as a hyperlink; instead, anybody who wants to view it would have to highlight it, copy it, and paste it.

She didn't say preemptive. She said that the mods can essentially disable the link once its confirmed to be inappropriate, so that it can't' be clicked on after the fact.

I don't find it useful because i don't click links in main, except on certain occasions where i know the person that links and that it is something specifically i want to see. And if people start announcing the link as inappropriate i'm Definately not going to be clicking it. But thats just me, using a little simple common sense.

There are other chats where moderators can clear the entire chat screen of all users. I would guess that depends on the chat software though.

No one should be clicking on any links sent by anyone unless you trust that person 100%. Any link could be a virus.

I don't really know if this is possible with our chat software. That would def be something for Robo to check.

Some I do find to be useful in the meantime is to type random letters or words or various other icons to make the link disappear from view at the top as quickly as possible. Same thing when someone cusses and then ends up being banned. I never like to see that on the screen, so the more I do to make it disappear, the better.

You're right, my mistake. And in that case; that sounds like asking for too much manpower that the site doesn't have readily available at all times.

That's how I see it...see it's not just vulgar links. It's also the cussing...no one likes to see either. And sometimes before you can say "Don't click it" it's too late sometimes. So that's why I'm suggesting that.

If i am ever tempted to click a link by someone i don't know, i'll wait to see if a mod says or does anything. If the mod kicks/bans/or verbally reprimands the person i don't click it. And if there's no mod on, i just don't click it at all. Not really sure why people would want to click on links from people they don't know they can trust anyways.

I think hyperlinks should simply be disabled in chat. Someone can still post a URL, but others won't be able to click on it. They would have to highlight the address, copy it, and paste it in a new window/tab. I think this would help deter looky Lous. Still won't completely ''remove'' the threat, though. =/

And while I'm here, can I just give lil_Christian mad props for being the lil Christian that she is? :D Way to be a beacon of light in a perverse and wicked generation!

You know, it used to be that way. Hyperlinks weren't enabled in chat once upon a time. Maybe robo could do that again.

There's a way that the chat/forum can automatically detect the spelling of vulgar words, and replace them with asterisks or some other symbol.

If it wasn't too time-consuming perhaps that could be implemented :)

We already have that in place in the forums, actually. I don't believe it can be done in the chat room itself.

Well, when i was a World of Warcraft addict (an online game, for those who don't know) they had typed chat. They had an option for a filter for cuss words. So some people had filter on and some off, so I'm sure it could be implemented on CC chat, but i am totally ignorant of how difficult it would be.

I can't speak for OUR chat room's capabilities here on CC. It is a common implementation though, especially on online gaming chat channels (as Ugly mentioned with WoW).

Would be nice if we can place an automatic filter, as well.
